Anime in general I guess. It has always been stupid that the idea of liking some cool cartoons means you're supposed to enjoy every piece of Japanese animation that exists, even though it comes in so many genres than it would be impossible for one person to actually enjoy them all. But the damn otaku act like everything from Japan must be worshipped no matter how creepy it gets.

it's weird you see things this way, since my impression of western fans of anime / japanese stuff is that they're often super closed-minded and are extremely negative/critical toward the stuff that's not in their preferred little section of the fandom

I get why some people really love them and there are definitely parts I appreciate but overall I feel like one of the defining points of the genre is a certain level of freedom that I don't really feel is necessary or even good in video games like that. And I don't find it to be an interesting type of freedom either

I do this. With practice you can take a whole onion apart in under two minutes. Not even enough time to tear up.

a lot of that tear stuff is actually caused by cutting up the disc down near the root so if you manage to take it off correctly (or just leave it on and don't cut it, makes a nice handle) it lesses the tears a lot

I think the only sports game I've ever really enjoyed was mario strikers and I bet purists would say that doesn't even count. So gotta go with a low rating here.

They often felt to me like they sacrifice gameplay for realism, references to real people/teams/etc, accurately representing the actual sport, and so on. Which I'm sure is great for people who are into the sports irl but it's just not the kind of thing I'm looking for in my games at all

pretty good show overall, I liked how it made use of being an anime to have a lot of more background-y visual jokes (like, the joke is entirely in the visuals and not really stated). Gives you that feeling that not only was it good, it was good as an anime instead of just being like "well this could have been a manga/LN instead"

I don't think so? usually it's just a bunch of various fanwork studios making totally separate games and they just contract VA work to whoever they can afford, I'm pretty sure. most touhou fangames don't have any VA at all

touhouvania2 especially is really good. And presumably had super high budget for a doujin game since they have a ton of really nice art and have some bigname VAs

it's probably the best co-op game I have ever played. Actually uses its co-op as in interesting part of the gameplay and the story instead of just "oh you're two people playing at once with a shared goal". Full of fun little minigames and asides if you don't feel like just cruising through the story itself.

its only real weakpoint imo is that it's not particularly gameplay focused, if you were looking for that. It's not all just quicktime events but it's also not as much of a straight up game as most people would think of when they think of games. It was made by a movie director and it shows.

Definitely worth $26 especially since only one of you needs to buy it. I think the only way you could play it and not enjoy it is if you have absolutely no chemistry with the person you're playing with at all

many of my favourite games are either platformers or games with a moderate-heavy platforming focus. I dunno if I'd say 10/10 because there's a lot of iffy stuff in there too but if I were to give any genre a 10 it would be this one

a lot of fighting games do not handle SOCD well and it's very advantageous to be able to do them. which means in theory that certain types of controllers (bad ones??) are inherently better to play with. I assume there's generally a ban/ruling put on by the organizers but if this was not the case it would soon become clear that if you wanted to play at the highest level you'd need a certain type of controller

I think it's just more difficult in smash's case since it's harder to police. two gamecube controllers with slightly different springyness on internals look identical while an arcade stick looks very different from a ps3 controller (or whatever)

all the government job related interviews here are like 80%+ this. I don't know why. I once had a 1 hour interview that was just entirely this type of question and it was awful

hollow knight's strong points:
- large world to explore and find paths between
- generally a variety of places that are the "next" destination
- fun movement, especially as more abilities unlock

hollow knight's weak points:
- lowish max hp means bosses are not significantly more damanging than normal enemies
- many rooms are just way too big (horizontally and vertically) for the amount of actual content in them which makes retraversing areas a pain
- often the reward you get for finding&exploring an obscure area does not feel appropriate for the effort it took (heart pieces, mana pieces, badges you'll likely never use)

I've played a bunch. A lot of people like to dump the rpg system altogether or do something super unique or just not fucking give a shit and put a really really bad standard one in there.

I've generally avoided them since I think the default rpgmaker battle system and interface look extremely unappealing but if all the bgm in the game is this good I could definitely give it a shot

found this bgm medley on youtube of songs from a random free japanese rpgmaker game and they're pretty sweet (linked the timestamp of my favourite but there are lots of other good ones). I went to go DL the game too and the maker estimated it at 80 hours playtime which sounds crazy o.o

anyone ever played an actual rpg in rpgmaker? all the rpgmaker games I've played have been horror/puzzle games lol

I like them in concept but I really don't want to ut in the time and effort to learn all the intricacies of any of them, and all my friends I have irl to play them with are super serious about them (like, attend tournaments and stuff) so it's never a very fair match

I think the most fun I've had with fighting games is picking weirder / more obscure ones that no one knows, and then making a pact not to grind them in training mode since it keeps everyone on a more even footing
