honestly with how many deaths there are at these events in super metroid and how a death essentially kills the entire run, I don't really blame them. Like yes, it's a hard run. There are lots of other hard runs too. It might be popular but maybe it's time to realize that it's not really marathon safe

many other difficult runs will make safety saves for hard tricks but super metroid doesn't because it's such tight competition, maybe they should ease up a little and just play it safe

if we're counting glitches, there was one discovered in ocarina of time not even a month ago that allows you to completely skip the goron and zora tunics by preventing the timer from ever showing up in heated/underwater areas. The trick? It only works when you have exactly 1/16 of a heart remaining, in a game where the smallest increment it actually displays in your health bar is 1/4. Considering how big OoT is with the glitch hunting / speedrunning community it's amazing an actually useful glitch went unnoticed for so long

The gaps in the days are all done by TC itt lol, but honestly who gives a shit. Sometimes cool topics you haven't seen before pop up and they're easily manually ignored.

I really dislike it because if I was tracking a topic, or following a topic I'd posted in through my AMP, it's because I was interested in the topic. Seeing it get another post is cool and I click on it excited to see what the new discussion in the topic is, only for it to be "bump lol" or any number of possible variations on that.

I don't really care how old the topic is if you bump it with something relevant, but this isn't that at all. It's basically the equivalent of a completely content-free post in any other topic but even worse since it gets your hopes up

hollow knight was very good and I don't even really like the game

some other things I'm looking forward to:

waveland - fast paced 2D platformer with extremely smooth movement

SA2B - I dunno why but I always find runs of this fun to watch. Probably the variety in levels and the 3 playable characters which constantly alternate

metroid prime 3 - because I'm curious how broken (or not broken) it is compared to other prime games

mario sunshine - game flows really well, if you like mario 64 runs you'll probably like these too

umihara kawase - because I can barely even figure out how to play this game properly in the first place

I wanna run the marathon - IWBTG fangame (which means lots of precise platforming) with a ton of cool gimmicks

warcraft 3 - because RTS campaign speedruns often use very amusing strategies

LoZ 100% race - lots of nostalgia for this game, if I ran a mainstream game it would probably be this

LttP randomizer race - there was a big tournament for this recently and I realized it's super fun to watch if commentary is good

I feel like I mix jp / english titles a lot. Like if the jp has a good abbreviation I'll use it (sukasuka is a recent one that comes to mind) even if it does have an actual english title. But then there are some english titles that are so well known it's weird using anything else.

what really gets me though is when you have a map of the overworld in some open world game and it's littered with 200 different icons for different events and shit that you can trigger. that pretty much kills my interest in the game, i find it overwhelming

yeah this really bugs me as well

a map with just a general layout of the terrain and the most major landmarks with a little dot showing where you are is good enough. I want my map to help me tell where I am without getting myself confused, not tell m where every single thing in the game is

I don't think they're necessarily higher but they will list %s and there's (iirc) usually some sort of guaranteed drop thing going on after you spend a certain amount / roll enough / whatever

tbh I looked up granblue after making that post and it's a lot less obnoxious about the ads than I've seen from most gacha focused games... at least from their website. It's hard finding good game footage that really shows the game and interface and everything and not just battles <_<

Still, the genre is built around making the game a part of your daily schedule rather than an actual game you play on your own terms with daily login bonuses (usually you get extra for a streak of daily logins) and the stamina system, and then using that spot in your schedule to tempt you into spending real money with ads for all the sweet campaigns and cool new items and etc plastered all over the menus.

There are tons of other games you could play that actually respect you as a player and your time and your money and etc

Aside from the sort of missables which gameover you and force you into an unwinnable state, which suck... I don't think I really care, honestly.

I don't tend to look up tons of things about games as I'm playing them. I don't tend to look up tons of things about games after I play them, either. Unless the game is shouting at me "You could have gotten this, and this, and this" then I probaly will not even notice that I missed anything in the first place.

I'm a lot more annoyed about non-obvious points of no return. Like when there's a bunch of side quests / extra items / etc you want to go pick up, but saving too close to the final boss prevents you from turning back for them. Which I guess does make them all missables but I don't tihnk it's quite the same way you mean that since I don't think anyone would argue that say, super metroid is full of missables

oh, so it's like a matter of durability. I've always used the plastic bags from groceries for like, putting in garbage bins in the house to collect garbage in so that you can tie them up more easily but I dunno if these are the resuable kind or not

The Stalfos fight for the bow in the Forest Temple? That's fucked. Seriously fucking fucked. It almost seems like both parts of the fight were designed to make such a challenge horrible. The first part has you circling a thin track, which makes positioning yourself to get a hit in obnoxious. Then the second part pits you against two of them, and they need to be killed within a short timeframe or else the first one revives. I'm not too far past this, but this is the first point where it actually felt like a challenge.

I've done a few assorted challenge runs of games in the past, usually zelda ones, but more recently I think the closest thing I've done to this are randomizers for various games. Which are not inherently challenge runs but often put you in challenge run sort of situations based on the items you get.

oh also I played through pokemon emerald and pokemon firered with a hack that removes exp gain. That was actually extremely hard but extremely fun as well, definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys pokemon but finds it too easy
