Tetris effect goes away on its own if you take a break.

I had a similar problem when skyrim came out I started seeing quest markers everywhere.

When GTA3 came out, every time I saw a bay door, I would think about driving a car into it, the door closes, then I magically get money like those "car drop off" missions.

Been looking more into it and yeah next week I may end up going to the pet store and buy the supplies needed.

Also thinking about getting a bearded dragon, but they require more maintenance. I work a lot and don't want it to die if I'm not home for 10+ hours.

@dolomedes what y'all know about lizards?

For tarantulas, I suggest studying up on good species for beginners, and then order the species you want specifically when the weather warms up. They are shipped one day or two day FedEx.

A few things to note:

1. There are basically two types of tarantulas: old world and new world. New worlds are from North, Central, and South America. Their bites are like a bee sting, but the main way they defend themselves is with urticating hairs. They throw their hairs at you and they will irritate the skin they come in contact with. Not a huge deal, but DO NOT get these hairs in your eyes or nostrils. You can tell how fussy a particular spider is by looking for bald spots.

Old world tarantulas are from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and other Pacific Islands. They do not have urticating hairs, but have medically significant venom.

2. Females live a lot longer than males, so if you have an option, get a female. Males tend to live about 5 years, females generally live for at least twice that, sometimes over 20 years.

If you buy from a pet store, you might get a wild caught mature male, which will probably only live a year or so.

3. You may want to get a "sling" (spiderling) and raise it. This is less expensive, but slings are very fragile, very small, and in general very timid. And some of them are FAST.

4. Tarantulas, both NW and OW, are either terrestrial (live on the ground), fossorial (live underground), or arboreal (live in trees). This will affect your spider's set-up. For a terrestrial, you need a tank with three to four inches of substrate that is longer than it is tall. For a fossorial, you'll want even more substrate. For an arboreal, you'll want a tank that is taller than it is long, filled with sticks and stuff to climb on (clean and disinfect any sticks you use from outside by baking them).

5. Don't put sponges in water dishes. This causes bacterial growth. Just give them a water dish that you keep filled. They can drink from it. You can also sprinkle water droplets on their webs.

6. Each species has different care requirements. Read up on whichever species you get. Most tarantulas can be kept at room temperature.

I'll link a video with recommendations for several types of beginner tarantulas. Probably don't start with an Old World.

Empererors are very sedentary scorpions in my experience. If you are worried its not eating enough, keep an eye on the fleshy bit on its sides. If its malnourished the top and bottom exoskeleton plates will be very close together. If it is overly thin, I would try crickets. Sometimes inverts have a preferred food that they stick to.

If the scorpion still has plenty of weight on it, it could be preparing for a molt. They tend to stop eating before and after molts. I would pull any live feeders back out of the tank for now, and try offering single crickets every few days. Inverts are very vulnerable while molting, and feeder bugs can kill your scorpion during the process.

That's why I got dubias. Crickets can kill molding inverts, but dubias can't.

That said, I check on it regularly, and if I notice it molting, I'll remove the roaches.

She expanded her tunnel last night while I was at work. Her tunnel now goes 4-5 inches deep (to the bottom), then along the side edge (12 inches), then about halfway (so far) around the front edge (12 inches across total; enclosure is 12 x 12 x 8). I just fed her a dubia roach which she quickly nom-nomed.

She is fun to watch, but she hides every time I open the enclosure so I haven't been able to hold her yet.

My other invert (emperor scorpion) does almost nothing, is never out, and I'm not even sure if it's eating. I tried feeding it meal worms when I first got it. It didn't like those, so I got these dubia roaches. I've given it three so far, and two are definitely alive and uneaten.

I'm wondering if I'm caring for it wrong. It has almost the exact same setup as the T. albo (3-4 inches coconut soil, top layer of sphagnum moss, 95+% humidity, 72 degrees F, small water dish.

I just got a Tliltocatl albopilosum (curly-haired tarantula) a couple weeks ago, and she is so great. I had this little fake coconut thing as a hide for her, but she ignored it and went behind it a built a tunnel to the bottom of the enclosure. She scooped all the dirt out and dumped it next to the hide. It's crazy how much she can do while I'm at work at night.

That makes sense. I'm not that knowledgeable about 50s - 70s, but I'm an expert with 80s sitcoms and to a degree 90s.

Also 70s was Brady Bunch, duh. Why didn't I remember that?

Pigs. The least amount of environmental damage of the options there. Well that or cats, but cats are a more popular pet.

Actually pigs and dogs would be the most neutral options. The greatest good option would be cows (gets rid of a lot of greenhouse gases). The greatest evil option would be bees, which would do an insane amount of damage and probably doom the world. Fish would definitely cause mass starvation in areas that rely on fishing. Cats would cause an explosion in pests like rats and mice. Birds would probably cause a chain reaction killing the wildlife that eat them.

I chose pigs because I prefer eating beef to pork, and my wife would probably kill me for depriving her of milk.
