this. I'm more a fan of haunted houses so I really liked the concept, and the execution (heh) was decent enough.

Yeah......"interesting".....

For me it's generally not a good time when a film is very psychological and introspective in studying a bad person, who could very much exist in real life. Nightcrawler I liked - there was an actual cast of characters and interesting interactions and story elements. This just got.....unpleasant. That said, it *is* good. I just have some personal fears that made it a little bothersome for me.

lol i just finished watching that as I opened this page

The Nun is death by jumpscare, good god. They just throw in as many as possible and hope that some are effective, to the point where it no longer has any effect by the middle of the movie. The atmosphere is kinda cool - reminded me a lot of Woman in Black how it's set at a big secluded, decrepit building shrouded in mist with mysterious shadowy figures everywhere.

It's a shame because the setting and villain are genuinely unsettling, if they had bothered to slow down and build any tension or show character development, it could have been good.

Rewatched The Babadook for the first time in a while. I really think you can make a case for it being the best horror movie ever made. The mental illness aspect of it scares me more and more upon each new viewing. It's a chilling metaphor for what can happen if you just push down things that are eating away at you. It was not at all what I expected the first time I watched it, but after digesting it and rewatching it, you appreciate how well-crafted and directed it is.

I was also comparing it a bit to Hereditary while watching it this time, there's a lot of parallels. While Hereditary is more insane and has more intense moments, I think Babadook is more consistently good throughout the whole movie.

Watched Killing of a Sacred Deer with my family tonight, loolll. What a weird-ass movie. So sterile and robotic - Stanley Kubrick would've loved it.

the main thing that doesn't make sense to me is what the hell is making the kids sick?? are we to assume it's some sort of supernatural curse this guy is magically enacting? how is it that the movie is essentially realistic save for this massive detail where we're apparently supposed to just assume that the guy has supernatural powers?? It's way too huge of a plot device to make so little sense.
