That's not the right way to phrase it; it's not they who let down Marvel. it is asinine to attract best-selling writers from outside of comics in the hopes that they will draw in readers commensurate with their stature and expect that a splashy New York Times article a year before those comics launch will be enough to market the books. You cannot expect a reader familiar with Gay or Coates but generally unfamiliar with comics to understand that if they walk into a comic book shop (which itself is a big ask and an antiquated model) to buy a comic the day a comic releases that their sale is effectively worthless. They can't go after an audience that buys outside of the direct market and cancel books before they even have their first trade. Marvel is in the business of selling comics. If they want to cling to a market that consistently undercuts their efforts, they have to be willing to put in the work to make readers understand that they need to pre-order books months in advance to have an affect on sales. Do not leave that on the creators, because not every person is Kelly Sue DeConnick and is willing to put in the money and time to market their book before it's out. Comics and comic sales are dumb, Marvel is not unique in this, but they've proven time and time again that they are worse at selling books than DC or other outlets.

Black Panther and Black Bolt are two of the finest comics in recent memory. Coates got Black Panther. His book is a beautiful contrast to the hard cuts of Priest, his comic structure has a poetic rhythm to it. Ahmed's dialogue in Black Bolt is second to none. His characters all have unique voices, and both what they say and how they say it ties back into the books themes. They did their job. Marvel didn't do their's.

Have you thought of subscribing to Marvel Unlimited? It's a pretty great service, if you don't mind being 6 months behind on current comics. They usually run promos around releases of big movies too, maybe you can get a free month.

Libraries are good places to go for comics as well.

Marvel has some great books (many of which they cancelled in December, in a move that makes a lot of sense today). You're not getting Ta-Nehisi Coates, Roxane Gay, Saladin Ahmed, or Nnedi Okorafor at DC. Unfortunately, because Marvel is bad at selling comics, you're probably only getting them briefly at Marvel.

It's also written by Tom King (hey Marvel remember when you had Tom King) and had a good marketing push, but also, it's Mister Miracle, if this book is outselling the fucking Avengers you need to take a look at yourself.

Flash routinely outsells the Avengers, for instance. Mister Miracle, admittedly early in its run, is outselling a lot of Marvel books. The X-books have collapsed, for a variety of reasons. Marvel's recent history is a lesson in how to not sell comics.

Events and relaunches have been used by Marvel to diminishing returns over the last decade. So it makes sense that Marvel are now offering a 'Fresh Start' with absolutely no details on why this is needed, what they did wrong, what will be different this time. This is pretty basic stuff. A big reason DC has been able to eat Marvel's lunch, apart from consistency, is goodwill efforts, whether it's cheaper comics for consumers, or offering returnable comics to retailers with Rebirth (very important!). You're not alone.

I think if you'll look at the recent history of Marvel and DC comics, you'll find that DC books are more stable in direction and creative teams than Marvel books, and people have responded in kind, with traditionally strong Marvel books low in current run counts getting outsold by lower tier DC books in the 30s. This is not something that happened before Marvel hit on their relaunch fetish.

Peace Walker is fine. There's some egregious story moments. It stretches too little content over too much game. But the gameplay and structure is solid. It's handheld MGS5.
