It seems like more and more ads have been stuffed in, to the point where there are usually two ads before a video, potentially several during the video, and two more after the video.

There are also ads for super fishy apps on the main screen, like for seedy mobile games or "phone cleaners" that claim that you totally have a virus, usually with a ton of grammar errors in the ad.

I also got a recommendation for a video with a question asking if it was a good recommendation for me (before I watched the video), and it wouldn't let me go to the video until I answered the question.

I dunno, it's super first-world-problems-y, but it feels like YT is going out of its way to destroy its own app, largely by bloating it with obnoxious amounts of ads.

Ah, okay.

Yeah, that's definitely a Cage issue as a whole. IIRC Heavy Rain had some supernatural elements implied, but the foreshadowing went nowhere at all. Detroit had ra9 teased throughout the story, but evidently there's no real explanation for it at all.

I'd call them red herrings, but it seems more like he sets up plots and then changes his mind a bit and does something else entirely.

I still very much liked how my first play through went.

People saying Karas was pointless only highlights how unfortunate their play through must have went.

Everyone always makes Connor defect just because it feels correct. But its cool how different your game goes depending on how you perceive stuff.

My Markus was legit pissed on how he got trashed, so I actually agreed with North and thought Josh was a naive dumbass.

But Karas story is important to show how civilian androids are affected. This is emphasized if your Kara DOESNT escape Jericho like mine did. My Markus was literally fighting a full scale battle leading to a boss fight with Connor to save Kara and Alice.

I cant imagine the game ending differently tbh.

Yeah, I like how differently the story can play out. It's definitely something that David Cage does very well there.

And yeah, I agree about Kara. I get the complaint of her not tying to the main plot, but I really liked her story anyway. It had the most human component to it, and it was nice to have some personal stakes, even if I was kind of eh on Alice as a whole.

Agreed, though I did feel kinda forced into making Connor defect late in the story. I wanted to have him stick to the mission, but I was trying to keep everyone alive except for North, so I went for Connor defecting just because I could easily see one of Connor/Markus dying there if I didn't.

Connor was definitely the best by far. Kara's was ultimately pointless, but I still liked it, and I smiled when Kara/Luther/Alice crossed the border in the end and finally made it. Markus...I liked his story early on, with the father/son relationship with the painter, but I felt like the Jericho stuff went way downhill. Like I said, robot Jesus was very forced, and the Jericho cast was really weak (Simon/Josh were bland, and North was horrible). It was still okay, just kind of forced.

I was cautious about boarding David Cage's Wild Ride again, but I gave it a shot and really liked it.

It wasn't perfect, and Markus's plotline was kind of bad, with it feeling very very forced in terms of him basically becoming Robot Jesus, and having no subtlety whatsoever (the back of the bus part was...insanely blatant).

I was kind of ehh on the Alice twist, too. It felt like a classic David Cage twist-for-the-sake-of-being-a-twist and raises some questions (which are apparently explained on other routes to be fair).

But overall, I enjoyed the story, the characters were generally good (but fuck North, I got her killed on purpose when the game let me. I also hated Amanda but she was kind of just an AI designed to hate your choices if you weren't a totally obedient robot, so it's not as bad), and it was very immersive. I cared about what happened to almost everyone. Also, Hank stole the show. The Connor chapters were the best for their dynamic in particular, and Hank was my favorite character by a huge margin.

So yeah, nice to see a David Cage game work out. I saw a stream of Fahrenheit and it was so bad that it was hilarious, Heavy Rain was solid but flawed, and I hear that Beyond is beyond awful. I was kind of cautious about trying Detroit, but I honestly really liked it.

There are a few levels that just lob shit at you (like the swamp-y village and the castle) which can pretty much 100-0 you in a second. I've gotten kind of annoyed at it due to losing 30+ minute runs to one very minor mistake.

If you haven't had any luck I would recommend maybe souping up your resume a bit. It could be you're just not standing out enough. I would typically have a few different versions of my resume catered to different types of jobs, and would alter it depending on where I'm applying.

It's a huge pain in the ass but I found I had much more success with the catered resumes.

I'm not honestly sure how to. I've had the same job for a while, and I only have some freelance work before that. I dunno what I can really do to it.

BlazinBlue88 posted...
Are you actually creating an account and uploading your resume so recruiters can call you or are you just applying to random jobs? If the second one then you're doing it wrong.

Both. I uploaded my resume a while back and have heard literally nothing on that end. I've applied to a number of jobs and have had one phone interview and gotten a bit into the process before being notified that they went with another candidate. That's the only one I've heard anything back from at all.

CommonStar posted...
Indeed is a numbers game, you odds are slim. You are better off using their listings but going directly to the company's site to apply. You can also research local business and connect with their recruiters through linkedin and tell them about yourself and what positions you are looking for.

If you're looking for entry level jobs, the recruiters that contact you through indeed won't prioritize you because those job have low salary and they don't make much compensation from it.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's just a massive fucking waste of time honestly. I'm not really in it for playing the lottery.

The same jobs are usually posted on all the big job boards (indeed, linked etc).

I've gotten both of my professional jobs off indeed since I graduated.

It's not indeed but rather the companies you are applying to are not responding. 6 months without an interview is an abysmal rate and there's likely something wrong with your application or the way you're going about applying to jobs.

Like I said, Indeed will occasionally send status emails that show me how many other people are applying for the same job. The lowest I've seen is 300. It's kind of a waste of time if everyone is doing this. There's very little shot of standing out from the field with this.

I dunno. I'm prolly just gonna kill myself or whatever. My current job sucks incredibly hard and I've hated it for a long time. I don't want to keep doing it, but the impression that I'm getting is that I have to luck out to get out, and it's probably not going to happen any time soon. I'm over it.

If anyone is bored and wants to read something short that I wrote, I came up with this idea yesterday and wrote this out before bed last night. It's less of a story and more of a small exercise in existential horror. I'm not sure if it's any good, but I thought it was an interesting idea to explore, so I gave it a shot last night.

Edit: Oh, and just so I don't sell myself super short, I used a fairly different style for this story. I typically write with much more detail, but I used a very simple style for this particular story, partially due to the nature of it. It probably comes across as more basic than I had intended. I'm not an expert writer at all, but it occurred to me that someone might read think I can only write on like a 5th grade level or something. I tried to keep it in a simple style strictly for effect, but that may not be super clear. If there's any feedback that anyone can offer, though, I'd really appreciate it.

Not to sound harsh but a lot of creative types just dont have that it factor in what they put out. Failing as an artist is extraordinarily common. Just because you have creative yearnings doesnt really mean all that much. However, that doesnt mean you cant practice and get better. Outside of something like music - where people make or break very young, relatively - you got countless examples of artists finding recognition only later in life. If not after theyve died (especially with painters). But yeah, read up on renowned authors. Plenty had years if not decades of being considered a failure before they struck a chord with the reading public.

I know. It's honestly cruel. I'm passionate about writing and I love to do it. I think that creative writing (whether it be as a novelist or writing for shows or games or something) is probably the only field where I'd ever be truly happy, but it's also hard to break into it, and I have very little talent. Being passionate about something but hitting a wall like that is really heartbreaking.

speaking as a professional musician, I would like to correct your statement. there are lots of people who started later in life, and lots of people who didn't get recognition until later in life.

@ TC: remember that creative work is a process, not a static state of being. it's not about being good; it's about improving a little bit every day.

Creative work first and foremost should be for yourself if you're not being contracted. Tell the kind of story you want to read. Be selfish, amaze yourself, disgust yourself.

Because in the end, if you don't like it, what does it matter?

I love to write. I've written two novels and a number of short stories. I genuinely enjoy doing it, and I already have four story ideas in mind to work on next.

The thing is...I suck. Pretty much any time I send anything to anyone, they start it but don't finish. At best, I get a halfhearted "It's okay" or "It's not bad" or something that just seems like politeness more than anything.

I want to keep doing it, but I'm also a pretty neurotic person with a lot of issues with both anxiety and depression. I'm having a lot of trouble simply handling coming to terms with my lack of ability despite continuing to try my best.

Are there any creative types out there who have experienced something similar? It's really hard to stay motivated after a while when I'm painfully aware that I'm not very good and likely never will be.

I've waited for a bit, too. I beat 1 after getting it on a PSN sale on PS3 last September or so, but the PS4 remasters were announced in the meantime, so I decided to wait for the PS4 version of 2.

The literal definition of homophobia: "dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people."

There's just always that smartass who's like "I'm not homophobic because I'm not scared of gay people!", so I figured I'd chuck that in too.

It's tough to answer really.

By the literal definition in terms of being afraid of gay people? Like .1% or something. I'm sure there are people out there, but it's not common.

Actively homophobic, as in, vocally opposes homosexuality, would avoid interacting with gay people, etc? I'd say somewhere between 15% and 25%. It's more common than you think, especially in the south. My grandma has fairly liberal views, but she's a radical homophobe and has talked about beating Ellen Degeneres to death on a few occasions. There are still quite a few people, notably older people, who are very opposed to it.

At least mildly homophobic, as in, might not be vocal about it, but isn't comfortable with homosexuality and quietly opposes the idea? I'd say around 40%. It's definitely dropping overall, but it's not uncommon at all.

I occasionally get YT recommendations of old videos of a friend who committed suicide. It legitimately stresses me out, but I also don't really want to unsub. It kind of feels wrong to do so.

Didn't he have a known alias that he used to give interviews about how amazing Donald Trump is? I've heard it a number of times. I want to say that he actually used Barron as his alias, which is kind of comical in a way, too.

But yeah, this doesn't surprise me at all. It's not really new behavior for him to make up stories like that.

I've been up in the Arch a few times. It's really cool, though you have to ride in this super cramped elevator that's like the inside of a washing machine to get there.

Grant is a great VA who has done some fantastic work.

Kind of a bad choice as a replacement Troy, though, as they sound nothing alike.

It actually works okayish for Yuri. At worst you might notice a difference in the quality of the recording equipment.

That's kind of surprising, but good to hear. I haven't grabbed ToV DE (yet, I plan to, but my backlog is huge and there's a lot coming out soon that I need to get too), but Grant seemed like a really weird choice, since he has a really distinct voice that isn't terribly similar to Troy's. After Danganronpa V3 (where he was Shuichi), I can generally recognize Grant very quickly, since his voice is so unique. I figured it would be noticeable in ToV, too.

Looks like they got some dude named Grant George.
It's really weird too, because they didn't have him redub over Baker's old lines. So, sometimes in the same cutscene, Yuri will have different voices throughout the game.

Who here has played Genealogy Of The Holy War? God damn, I love that game

What were your thoughts? Please don't spoil it for others

Great game, though the long maps can wear on you.

Also, Sleep staves are fucking busted in that game. There are mobs with just lines of sleep holders who will spam undodgeable sleeps at you. The last few chapters were a nightmare at times with those.

Love the game overall. It probably has the best story in the entire series, too.
