74. Dragon Age: Inquisition (PS4)

I mentioned in an earlier write up how the Lord of The Rings medieval fantasy is one of my favourite genres to explore, so the Dragon Age games have always been some of my favourites. Inquisition was the most polished, open, and fun of the three games, and was actually the only game in the series I finished after getting to the last boss in both of the previous games and being too underleveled to beat it.

Other than the story and characters, which were both fantastic, and things I could go on and on about, the open world portion of this game is what really hooked me in. I had to force myself to leave The Hinterlands after spending a good fifteen hours attempting to do every sidequest and uncover every portion of the map, and this was a trend that continued with every map after that. There was so much to explore and find in each area, even if they started to feel a bit empty after awhile, and having a dragon as the "final boss" of each map was a nice touch, and gave me more reasons to progress in everything but the main story in this game.

73. Red Dead Redemption (PS3)

Westerns are fun and Rockstar makes good games, so it was hard to see this ever being anything other than great. I actually spent a lot less time with this game that I should have, and secretly hope that I get either a remaster or a chance to play this on my PS4 before the sequel comes out.

I beat the game, but that was essentially it. I didn't spend much time in the multiplayer, and I didn't do too much exploring or take on many optional activities, and yet somehow despite all that I still feel extremely good about this game. The setting, the story, the characters, the ending, all great, and all things that I fondly remember years after playing it.

I'll also never forget the mission where you finally go to Mexico, where the music played and I realized that there was a whole other portion of the map to ride my horse through.

76. Burnout Paradise (PS3)

I play a lot of racing games, but somehow Paradise was my first venture into the Burnout series, so it was a bit of a different experience than what I was used to with Need For Speed and Gran Turismo. It was also my first next-gen racing game experience, and I was blown away by the visuals at the time, and I still am, because this game looks and feels great.

The soundtrack was decent, the vehicles were varied, and the open world aspect that had you searching for billboards and special jumps was new for me at the time, so I spent a lot of time doing nothing but driving around, periodically finding these secrets or attempting to crash my car in the most brutal of ways to see what happened. This is a great game, and that's all I can really say about it.

75. Sonic the Hedgehog (GEN)

Because of my age (born in '94), by the time I was old enough to really understand how to play video games, I had the entire SNES and Genesis library available to me, and because of that I actually first played the original Sonic after I had spent significant time with Sonic 2. All that really means is that my nostalgia is greater for the second game, but this game is great in its own right.

Most of my time with this game came from the Sonic Mega Collection on Gamecube much later in life, when I was actually good enough to get past the first few levels. There isn't much to say about Sonic that would surprise anyone. The first three games were a lot of fun, and the music was great. This is another game that I technically have not finished, but as with many older games, the best experiences come from just playing them.

As for Borderlands 2, I can't even imagine playing that game solo. I've gone through it three or so times with friends and it's been awesome every time, though!

It's definitely a different experience, and is why that despite thinking Borderlands 2 is a better game on it's own, the experience of playing the original with friends has made me think higher of the original game.

78. WWE Smackdown! Here Comes The Pain (PS2)

This game is likely on this list because of nostalgia. I've played a whole bunch of wrestling games in my life, but this was the first one I played for a significant amount of time. I first received this game a year or so after it came out, which also coincided with the time when I first really started paying attention to wrestling in general, so it feels like a perfect storm of good memories has come together to result in the way I feel about it.

I spent a lot of time in the story mode of this game, which consisted of just as much backstage segments, in which you were given speech options and could form stables or start feuds, as it did actual wrestling, and the former has always been my favourite thing about wrestling. I can't honestly speak about the wrestling itself in this game, and that's only because I tried to spend as little time doing it as possible. I really liked the backstage segments and getting to interact with my favourite wrestlers as a kid, so I would try to end matches as quick as possible to see what would happen next in the story.

77. Borderlands 2 (PS3)

I played this game alone, and while it is still a great game, I think that the way in which I played it stopped it from being much higher on the list. I played most of the first game with a friend, and the first time I played this game, a mixture of playing alone and the setting turned me off from it for a number of years. It wasn't until I purchased The Handsome Collection last year that I gave this game the time it deserved, and I ended up enjoying the hell out of it.

Maybe I was just ready for more Borderlands after giving it a few years, but everything felt fresh to me. The game play was fun, the story was interesting, the characters were great, and I actually enjoyed Claptrap. It sucks that first person shooters have, for the most part, all turned into the same Call of Duty game, because taken away from that setting they are some of my favourite games to play, and Borderlands delivers on everything I like about the genre.

Also, "RPG", "sidequests", and "open world", are a recipe for success when it comes to my enjoyment of games, and when you add those to a shooter that feels good and is funny, I can't see any way that I don't think it's great.

80. Grand Theft Auto V (PS3)

I never got around to playing GTA IV due to not buying a PS3 until 2010, so this was my first next-gen experience of the series. I also played this game much differently than I did with previous Grand Theft Auto games, and I can attribute that to both my age and the way I now approach things as a gamer.

GTA was never really about the story for me, but for the first time with V, I focused on the story and didn't really spend much time messing around in the world, unlike with Vice City and San Andreas, so it was kind of a new experience for me.

I don't really have any interesting experiences to bring to this write up other than that. The game play is great, I enjoyed the characters and setting, and the story and humor were fun. The only thing I didn't really like from this game was the soundtrack, especially when compared to VC and SA. Other than that, GTA is great, and this is another great one of those.

I will add that I did play the multiplayer for about a week with my friends, and had a bunch of fun with it, but we moved on to other games pretty quickly.

79. Fallout 4 (PS4)

I was extremely surprised by how much I enjoyed my time with Fallout 4. I watched my brother play extensive amounts of both 3 and New Vegas, but only put a few hours into New Vegas myself before dropping both it and any hopes of enjoying the series. As this game being on this list will make it clear, this was not the case with Fallout 4, and I'm not exactly sure why. At first glance, the games are all similar, but if I could take a stab at why I enjoyed it so much more, it'd probably be a combination of me being more open to WRPG's now than I was five or six years ago, as well as the change in shooting to make it play more like a FPS.

That is the way I want to play Fallout. VATS is cool, and I used it a bunch throughout my playthrough, but I didn't have to rely on it like it I did in the previous games. Other than that, the game itself is both great and overwhelming if you enjoy attempting to be a completionist like myself. I put a good twenty hours into walking around the map discovering places before I really got into the story of the game.

The soundtrack is where the game shines for me, though, and is something I will say is great about the previous games as well. I have an odd taste in music, and something about the old-school vibe mixed with the depressing, morbid lyrics of Fallout music is extremely enjoyable. By the end of my time with the game, I could sing along to every song on the soundtrack.

It's weird, because I'm a huge fan overall of the series, and have played nearly all of the RE games in some form, but the first game always gives me the same terrified feeling, even going back to it years later.

I did spend some time with the REmake last year, but only got about an hour in before I couldn't play anymore. When I say that I'm scarred for life, I think I legitimately am.

It's weird to have a game on the list that I don't think I can go back to, but I thought that a game that has that effect on me should be recognized for it, and if I never had that experience with it, I probably wouldn't have become as big of a Resident Evil fan as I am, so I think its inclusion is justified.

At the same time, it also kind of ruined the Horror genre for me, and is why I have zero interest in playing RE 7.

82. Resident Evil: Director's Cut (PSX)

This is the one game on the list that I haven't played myself, and that's mostly because it was way too scary for me as a seven or eight year old. I'm pretty sure I'm scarred for life because even now I can't play through any version of it.

My experience with this comes in the form of watching my uncle play while I held a guide book in my lap, giving him directions to certain weapons and explaining how to solve certain puzzles. I know everything about this game just from my time spent meticulously reading through the guide and giving directions. We played the game start to finish together over the course of a few weeks, and that was what kickstarted both my love of Resident Evil and my hatred of horror as a genre.

The game isn't solely on the list because of that experience, though. Even though I have not held the controller while it was being played, I can appreciate what makes it great. The puzzles, characters that I've grown up with, and cheesy dialogue all make this game great to me, and are the reason why this game belongs here.

81. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (PS3)

I don't hear much about the PS3 Ratchet games, but I think they're great, with A Crack in Time being the most polished of the bunch. I guess I would say they're underrated by a lot of people.

The Future games weren't exactly groundbreaking when it came to the series, but all I was really asking for was more Ratchet and more guns, and they delivered. The story isn't mind blowing, but the usual banter and bad jokes are there, and the gameplay is awesome, which is all that really matters.

I don't have much else to say here. I love Ratchet and Clank. This is an extremely good one of those.

84. Sleeping Dogs (PS3)

Sleeping Dogs is so good. I got this game for free on Playstation Plus a few years ago, with almost no expectations going in, and ended up being blown away by everything from the story and the graphics, to just the general presentation and aesthetic of it. Story-based open world games are definitely my thing, and this is a nearly perfect one of those.

I really liked how the game was able to both tell a serious story while adding in dumb, goofy things like the Karaoke bar mission and the ability to find a girlfriend. The side stuff this game offered was often funny or interesting, which is something many open world games lack.

There aren't too many games that I would instantly pre-order when announced, but Sleeping Dogs 2 would probably be one of them, however impossible that would be at this point.

83. Streets of Rage 2 (GEN)

I never actually owned this game until I got it for free on PSN five or six years ago, but I remember going over to my cousin's house every few weeks as a kid and exclusively playing this and NHL 94 on her Genesis. In hindsight, I almost definitely put more hours into her Genesis specifically than she did.

This is another game that I never beat, mostly because my time with it always came in a limited capacity, but every time my brother and I would get further and further in, only to have our run end on some boss. I'm not much of a fan of beat'em-ups, but everything about this game was and still is great. The enemies are cool, the levels looked great as a kid, the screams the enemies make when they die will forever be burnt into my brain, and the music is amazing. I'm not one to listen to video game music outside of a video game except in a few cases, and this game might be one of them.

Axel and Skate for life.

Wait, hold on, stop the music.

You know, UCA, I've had some time to think after my Money in the Bank win at Epopmania. Maybe it was the thinking, maybe it was my head getting all weird from too many ladder shots, but something feels different.

I'm not here to force you to enjoy the show, or to brag about my glorious performances. I'm here to let you know that I'm tired of that. Tired of losing track of what really matters, and that's the wrestling, and winning, but most of all, it's the enjoyment.

I am your new Mr. Money in the Bank, officially this time, and I will be your future Undisputed Champion. When? No one can say for sure, but mark my words, it's coming. I'm not here to be an a****** to you fans, and I'm not here for the sake of fun either, I'm here to prove that I'm the best, just like I was on my first day here nearly a year ago.

I sure as hell still want to be your favourite superstar, but from now on, that's up to you.

Ah, XIII-2, the only FF so far that I haven't loved. Still, it's a decent game so I'm not sad to see it on the list! I can also see how a completionist like you would enjoy those paradox endings. I don't usually do post-game content so for me getting them was a boring grind

XIII-2 is a good example of the type of post-game I enjoy. I try to be a completionist, but if that forces me to go out of my way to find 200 collectibles then I lose interest quickly. Grinding and extra story moments and bosses are what I look for in RPGs, and XIII-2 was pretty good about providing that.

86. Mega Man Legends (PSX)

This is the second game on the list that I haven't beaten. Somehow, this game was my introduction to Mega Man, which is probably why it's important to me, despite the fact that I've never made any significant progress in it. As a kid, if I got stuck in a game for awhile, instead of moving on I'd just start over, and so I've probably played the first two hours of this game a dozen times.

This game almost certainly is not very good, and not at all an accurate depiction of what Mega Man is, but every time I watch it being played in any capacity, I can't help but wish I had a copy in front of me to dive back into, even if it means just replaying the same two hours that I've played before. This is one of those games where if you asked me to play it right now, I wouldn't hesitate to accept, and maybe that's just because of nostalgia. Regardless, I think it deserves to be on the list.

85. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX: Tag Force (PSP)

There have been large periods of my life that have revolved around playing the real version of this card game. As a kid, it was casual interest because of the TV show, but in middle school I discovered that the mall around me held casual tournaments, so for nearly a year I spent hours every Saturday and Sunday playing with people that were twice my age. In high school, I found a hobby shop near me that held slightly more serious tournaments, and every Sunday I'd spend hours competing there. I dropped the game altogether for years until two years ago I picked it back up more serious than ever, and managed to get good enough to finish near the top at my locals every weekend, until I realized that spending five hours playing cards every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday probably wasn't the best way to spend my time, or very fun for my girlfriend, so now I'm back to not playing.

None of what I just rambled on has anything to do with this game, but there isn't much to say about a random Yugioh game released for the PSP. During the height of my middle school playing, this is what would keep me occupied during the week while I waited for the weekend. All of the Tag Force games are great games though, and none of the Yugioh games released since have been able to stack up to them.

88. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3)

XIII-2 is the second game in the Lightning trilogy of Final Fantasy games, and had some interesting mechanics that set it apart from the original game. Most notably, we saw the introduction of a monster catching system, which allowed you to catch and use monsters encountered as the third member of your party, and time-travelling mechanics, which saw you visit multiple areas at different points in time, where past actions would alter them in different ways.

Visiting areas at multiple points in history and seeing the repercussions of the story affect characters that I had already grown to care about from the first game was really cool, and I found myself invested in the story in a way that I wasn't with the first game. The combat was almost identical to the original, however that was one of the things I enjoyed most from the first game so it was nice to see it return.

The paradox endings, which were largely useless to the main story, ended up being my favourite part of this game. In multiple situations, you could go back to certain points in the timeline and change the way a plot point was approached, resulting in the game "ending" after history had been changed. It was a cool touch for people, like myself, who enjoy time-travel nonsense in stories.

87. Mario Kart DS (NDS)

I'll start by saying that the only two Mario Kart games I spent any significant time with were DS and 6, and this one was my real introduction to the series, so it will always be significant to me. I received the red DS bundled with this game for Christmas the year it came out (which I still have), and for a long time it was the only game I played on the system.

Other than that, it's Mario Kart, and there isn't really much to say about it. I plan on picking up the 3DS version in the near future, but for now, this is my go to Mario Kart game, in terms of enjoyability.

SMB2 is a game I have hazy memories of playing as a kid but the only specific thing I remember is dying to Birdo. I should play through it for real someday, I guess

Almost every old game on the list that I played as a kid has been a game that I've also spent time with later in life, so I'm confident that there aren't too many rankings that are based on nostalgia alone.

SMB2 was actually one of the only games I bought on the WII virtual console because I was curious to see if it was just as weird as I remembered it being as a kid or if that was just hazy memory, and it delivered on everything I remembered about it.

90. Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)

This is the first of a couple games on the list where I've spent extensive amounts of my life playing the game, but have never actually completed it.

My first exposure to all three of the NES Mario's came from Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES, and 2 was such a different experience than the original or 3 that, while I may have enjoyed them more, I found myself always having reasons to come back to 2. Having four playable characters with different play styles meant that I could have four different experiences with the same game as a kid, and that definitely appealed to me.

Super Mario Bros. 2 is the least "Mario" of all Mario games I've played, and so maybe for that reason it isn't as special to me as some of the other games in the series, but I always found the music to be charming, and I'll never not be satisfied by the sound made when digging up an item from the ground.

89. Ratchet and Clank (PS4)

I feel like the phrase I keep repeating with some of the lower games on this list is "this is a game in a series I love, but not my favourite game in the series", and because of that it can get hard to go into detail on some games without spoiling my thoughts on others, and the PS4 reboot of the original Ratchet and Clank is one of those games.

Everything about Ratchet and Clank appeals to me. The humour, characters, dumb guns, even the mini-games. I have a lot of nostalgia for the first game in this series as well, so by both providing a twist on that as well as including everything else I mentioned, I had a feeling this game would end up on the list the second I started playing it, and I was right.

I probably would have actually enjoyed it more if they directly copied the first game simply because of my nostalgia, but I thought the changes they made were interesting nonetheless. The single knock I can give to this game is that it was too short. I could easily play another ten hours of Ratchet and Clank.

92. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PS4)

This game seems to get lost in the shuffle for a lot of people. It topped many best of lists in 2014, but seems entirely forgettable otherwise.

The universe drew me to the game, and the nemesis system is what got me to stay. The Lord of The Rings is my second favourite movie franchise, behind Star Wars. I haven't read the books (yet) other than The Hobbit, but everything about the world and its characters is the pinnacle of the fantasy genre for me. Shadow of Mordor is only tangentially related to the series, but it was still enough to get me interested.

The story is lacking overall, but the combat is where this game shines. I've seen it best described as taking the best parts of Assassin's Creed and Batman and combining them, and I'd agree with that. The nemesis system is something I've yet to see done in any other game, and it's what kept me playing even after I had finished the story. Essentially, there is a hierarchy of enemies, and they can climb up their own ranks and become more powerful in a variety of ways, including when they kill your character. Leaders are the most powerful, and they can continue to get more powerful if you do not kill them, potentially leading to them being immune to nearly all types of combat. Overall, the system was a great way of keeping the player interested and willing to come back for things other than the story.

91. Assassin's Creed II (PS3)

I briefly mentioned my thoughts on the series as a whole in the Brotherhood write up, so I won't get into them again. As for why I enjoy the game, everything I said about Brotherhood and my enjoyment of Ezio, the supporting cast, and the setting also applies here, but there are two small reasons why I have 2 a few spots ahead of it on the list.

The first is simply because I found the gameplay to be more novel in 2, considering I hadn't really gone through an entire Assassin's Creed game beforehand. This isn't Brotherhood's fault, and the placement of the two could potentially have been switched if I had played it first.

The other reason, though, is that with 2 I felt the Ezio and Desmond story were still two separate things, for the most part. The ending of 2 changed all of that and we seen some of how their stories merged in subsequent games, which I wasn't extremely fond of. The overarching plot of Assassin's Creed has been kind of a s*** show forever, so my enjoyment of it has come out of the events that occur in the past.

Not as much to say today, only played one. I've played Rogue Legacy for *checks Steam* 26 minutes before deciding it's the type of roguelike I don't enjoy. To be fair, though, that easily describes 95% of roguelikes!

I don't usually enjoy roguelikes either, but I felt Rogue Legacy was pretty good about not punishing you too hard when you died, and they had a mechanic in place that allowed you to control whether the dungeon was random or not. That combined with each new character being different made it feel like you weren't redoing the same thing or playing the same way with each run.

94. Wario Land 3 (GBC)

This game might have ended up much higher on the list if I didn't play it again in January. I can't say that I disliked it after beating it recently, but it definitely was not as fun as I once thought it was. I've talked about this recently, but I've had a very long hold on this game. It was probably my favourite non-Pokemon game on the GBC growing up, and I put countless hours into, but at the age of seven or eight it was always too tough for me and I probably restarted and played the same dozen or so levels twenty times.

When I picked it up again recently, that magic was rekindled for a long time, but after going through and beating it, the enemies and puzzles annoyed my just enough that I was glad it was over. Still, overall I enjoyed my experience replaying it, and it was such a great part of my childhood that I would feel wrong not including it here.

93. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)

I enjoy all things Final Fantasy VII. This game might have made the list just being an average game related to Final Fantasy VII, however I do think it is great on its own.

The Materia Fusion system, which allowed you to combine different materia to get new ones was a lot of fun, even if I essentially played the system to the point of being extremely overpowered (which is something I love to do in games).

What really draws me to this game, though, is the story. Like I said, I love all things FF7, and so getting the chance to take a deep dive into this mysterious Zack character and the origins of the greatest villain of all-time was a great experience. Seeing Sephiroth and the Turks, and even the relationship between Zack and Aerith hit all the right notes for me. Seeing the entire character arc of Zack and how we get to the beginning of FF7 was something I never knew I wanted, and something I really enjoyed.

96. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (PS3)

I have mixed feelings overall with the series. I never beat the first one, and played about half of the second before getting bored and stopping. Years later, I played, beat, and really enjoyed it, then in the span of a few weeks I burnt myself out by playing Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, and Black Flag. I'm now in a position where I'm so far in that I begrudgingly buy every game just to say that I've played them all.

I do think 2 is a slightly better game, but for me, these two represent the highest points in the series, where the gameplay was super polished and I was actually interested in the story of both Desmond and Ezio. The setting was something that I had just learned about in my history/philosophy classes at the time, so to travel around these places and see these people that I recognized and knew about made the game that much better, and I was actually motivated to do more than just speed through the main story to get to the end.

95. Rogue Legacy (PC)

I don't really play a lot of non-AAA, non-mainstream games, simply because I can't play every game out there and would rather focus on games I know I would enjoy. Rogue Legacy is a game I enjoy. The game is a roguelike platformer, in which you traverse a randomly generated dungeon killing enemies and gathering runes and gold that you can use to upgrade your character in various ways. When you die, you are forced to start from the beginning with a new character, however you keep any upgrades you have bought.

I don't really have an opinion on roguelikes overall. What attracted me to this game was the platforming aspects and the simple, yet surprisingly deep combat and upgrade system. I was pretty bad at this game, yet I still managed to brute force my way through two playthroughs.

The coolest part of this game for me were the characteristics of the characters. When you died, your new character, who was the heir of your previous one, randomly received a trait that could either help or hinder your next run. Things like "colour-blindness" making everything black and white, or "dwarfism" making your character extra small were fun things that added to the game, and made it so every run was just a little bit different. For a long time this was the game I would turn on for 10 minutes if I had nothing else to do to get a run in, just because it was so fun.

I did download Ground Zeroes, but never launched it. I also may have played the first PSX game when I was too young to really remember it, but if I did it would have been for an insignificant amount of time, and I've never owned one until getting Ground Zeroes for free.

When I was young I mostly played whatever my parents bought me or what my friends were playing, and it wasn't until MGS 3 came out that I really even knew the series was a thing. I've never been interested in playing games out of order, except in cases where it was impossible to play others in a series, so I never got around to it, and at this point there are so many of them that it would be overwhelming to start now.

Also, other than horror, forced stealth is my least favourite thing in games, so I was never incredibly interested to begin with.

That Power mission in Saints Row 3, playing it co-op with my brother for the first time, is arguably my favorite video game moment ever. Everything about it was so well done, the parachuting down to the rooftop, hundreds of gangsters, infiltrating your way into familiar looking rooms then going further into the depths of the building. It was incredible.

Easily my favourite moment of the series. For some reason, I find that hearing real music in games, especially when used in a case like this, nearly always elevates the moment, and I think more games should do it.

That's it for today! Some write-ups will be longer than others, and that is due to some games having an experience or story to go with them. On the flip side, classic games will probably have shorter write-ups because there isn't much to say about them that hasn't already been said, unless I have one of those aforementioned stories to go with them.

Initially I was going to attempt to create hints for upcoming games, but I realized I'm terrible at that so I'll probably do something like provide the system and year it was released on. These will also function as bumps in the event there isn't very much discussion.

98. World Of Final Fantasy (PS4)

This game pleasantly surprised me, but looking back, it contained all of the things that appeal to me in an RPG, so I'm not surprised it ended up with a spot on this list. Simply put, this is a turn-based JRPG with a Pokemon-style monster catching system that features cameos of characters and monsters from the entire Final Fantasy series.

What initially had me skeptical going in was the chibi-style art, which I am not a fan of, but the game and characters were so charming that it became a non-issue.

The story isn't award winning, but it was enjoyable throughout and the cameos of other characters in the series were presented in a way that made them actually valuable to the overall plot. Other than the combat, which is right up my alley, what really appealed to me was the humour. I'm definitely in the "it's so bad it's good" camp, and while some of it may be hit-or-miss, I found myself laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of the main characters and their interactions. The game is just goofy fun, and that's all I was really looking for going in.

In the last few years, I've attempted to 100% more games, and a good indicator of how much I enjoy a game is if I'm still enjoying myself after I grind through it. With WoFF, I was still ready to jump back in after running in a circle for 6 hours leveling up my monsters, and that's when I knew it was great.

97. Saints Row: The Third (PS3)

This game seemed like the perfect mix of the more grounded second game and the insane fourth game. I liked the weirdness of the different gangs, and I'll always have fond memories of the Power mission, in which the Kanye West song played throughout. Say what you will about it, but for me the song playing in that mission actually made it pretty intense, even if it was pretty dumb. That'll always be the one thing that sticks out in my head from this game, and one of the reasons why it made the list.

Other than that, I'm a sucker for dumb, open-world, GTA games, and in going all-in on the absurdity, I think this game does the "dumb" better than anyone else.

100. Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS)

I've had a weird relationship with Pokemon over the years. Up until Black/White, I religiously played every game, but fell off after getting tired of the series until mid-2016 when I bought a 3DS and decided to catch up.

Originally, I had Emerald on this list, as that generation was the one I spent the most time playing as a kid, however I didn't feel right putting it in over Omega Ruby because the latter does nearly everything better than the original, and the quality of life improvements are enough to give it the edge over the older versions.

99. Far Cry 4 (PS4)

It's hard to talk to about this game without talking about Far Cry 3, which I'll spoil and say is also on this list. 4 Seemed to be the first game that people criticized as "more Far Cry", but for me, that isn't a negative. There's something about the combination of survival and crafting gameplay mixed with missions and clearing outposts that just makes for an enjoyable experience. I feel good when I can see that I am making progress in things, so seeing the game completion percentage slowly go up made it feel like I was accomplishing something in this game.

I've attempted to not compare it to Far Cry 3, but I will say that while I enjoyed the story, and the villain, Pagan Min, was great, neither of them stack up to the previous games' story and villain, which is one of the reasons why 3 is higher on my list.

My first two consoles as a kid were the SNES and Sega Genesis, but after that I moved to Sony and never looked back. I've never owned an N64, and while I did spend a lot of time on Nintendo handhelds, I only recently purchased a 3DS and haven't gotten around to any of the best games. In total, over 80% of the list is comprised of games played on a Playstation console. I've also never played a Zelda, Castlevania, Metroid, or Metal Gear game.

There are also quite a few games on this list that are ranked higher than better games, however a big part of gaming for me has been the memories that I attach to games, and so there are many "worse" games that I enjoyed more than "better" games, and these are things that I will be mentioning in my write-ups.

The first four games will be posted very soon, but I wanted to show just how crazy my gaming history is by pointing out how many games come from each console. In terms of the placement, I used which console the game was first released on, not which system I played it on, except for games released first in arcades, in which I listed their console debut. Many of the Playstation games are multiplatform, in which case they are only listed on the Playstation console. The two PC games are (were) exclusive at the time.

NES - 3 SNES - 2 GEN - 4 GBC - 2 GBA - 1 PSX - 13 PC - 2 PS2 - 26

GCN - 1 PSP - 3 NDS - 2 WII - 1 PS3 - 27 3DS - 1 PS4 - 12

I finally got the motivation to go through with this after reading and participating in a few of Robazoid's topics over the last year. At this point I have most of the write-ups finished, so this is something that will be completed, regardless of whether or not there is interest from the board.

Many of you may or may not recognize my name, as I've lurked here for nearly a decade. I've recently made an attempt to post more, and this is part of that.

I decided to fully commit in order to get this list right, so my process involved going through a list of every game ever made for every console I've ever played, where I skimmed through and paused when a game caught my eye. This ended up being extremely fun, as I was reminded of many great memories of playing these games as a kid.

I'll likely be posting around four games a day in an attempt to facilitate some discussion. For now, though, I have some potentially interesting facts about the list to share before I get into it, which will be in the next post!
