yeah, the only other really solid one i can think of is bushido, but that wasn't exactly new. i do struggle to think of anything else that i strongly liked outside of ninjutsu

flip cards were a neat idea but had a lot of problems, mostly in presentation, and were eventually refined into double sided cards and custom tokens.
epic was a neat idea in terms of sparking imagination, but that's about it. i personally believe the ideas behind the mechanic were a part of what eventually became planeswalkers (planeswalker abilities are cast for free every turn)

everything about the set could've been better if it wasn't completely overshadowed in terms of power by mirrodin. doesn't help that the set's most powerful card was an artifact, either

i'm pretty sure you stop paying social security taxes after something like 120k, and if you're making 120k or less you're in the 28% tax bracket (effective tax rate is lower, since you only pay 28% on the money above 91)

i will argue with all of you kamigawa people! and i even liked the set's flavor. some of the mechanics were just very sad

arcane, splice, and spirits were unfortunate, and guaranteed that every involved card would be very narrow and unusable outside of the set. that's my main complaint.

i do like that chub toad became bushido. i did like that 1/1 you could sacrifice to get a land, especially back when damage hovered on the stack. legendary creatures are actually kind of a pain

there were also a lot of other just plain old weak or pointless keywords. flip cards were a bit of a mistake, but all of these are generally forgivable

jitte was also just stupid. i'll give that it was the kind of overpowered stupid some people enjoy

aside from design problems, it was also probably the worst selling set ever, considering the era

I didn't actually play during the period- just read blogs and analysis- and I really didn't get the impression that unbalanced blocks like mirrodin or urza's were the ones that were bad for the game's health and profitability, at least in the short term

Thought it was underpowered and "unfun" ones like kamigawa, masques, and homelands that showed the bulk of players the way to escape the game. Case in point: We've revisited mirrodin- we have not done the same for kamigawa

In some ways I blame the urzas and mirrodins for that. If an extremely powerful set comes out, and the next few years can't compare, why bother buying the new cards to play against your equally casual friends? Just get more urza boosters
