Have to wonder why they made Tyrande free. That was basically the only special hero I owned other than Liandrin. I actually did the stuff needed to earn those two, unlike all the other hot garbage that was mostly pre-order bonuses or direct payments, and it was a bit of a badge of pride that I had it.

Now everyone will have it. Oh well, it's not like anyone likes Anduin. He's an 8-year-old scrub being exploited by Onyxia.

Two important differences, though. First, I was power-leveling, and had zero rest exp. (Well, okay, one 5% block per day.) Second, I generally eschewed instances, but I did run a few. SM twice, Zul'Farrak, Temple twice, BRD in various capacities.

Attack it with minions, or weapons, or hit it with battlecries. (Relevant battlecr''ies include Crowd Roaster, Big Game Hunter, Spellbreaker, Shieldbreaker). Still small enough to get munched by Dragonmaw Poacher too. Like, if you tell me that my opponent is putting Evasive Drakonid into their deck, I definitely have ways to punish this.

Right, okay, but my point was that you'd have to give up minions to kill it because you can't just hit it with a kill spell, thus reducing your damage. Yes, there's battlecry targeting, and I have a feeling BGH may find a prominent place in the meta unless everyone just collectively decides not to run dragons or poachers, but I do like it a lot.

Fair point on the chimera, though. I'm kinda curious if a deck full of evasive minions would annoy opponents at all, though. Kinda like when you would play freeze mage and no minions would ever hit the board.

Okay, so real talk...

Dragons are big, and they're good for late game, I guess, but they honestly don't seem super overbearing to the point that it outweighs the downside of getting hit with a Dragonmaw Poacher. I feel like those decks are also going to be super weak to aggro, except *maybe* Hunter or Warlock.

And, of course, aggro always defines the day 1 meta even as people are trying wacky shit. Pirate warrior has potential, not-dragon hunter can push damage, and mech paladin looks really dangerous as well. So here's my question: What's the best day 1 anti-aggro deck?

Looking at Metroid's opinions...

Blazing Battlemage - A 1 mana 2/2 is nice, but I don't think it's actually *that* nice. Still dies to any 2-drop. Doesn't mop up 1/1's as well as a 1/3 would.
Hot Air Balloon - A 1/2 that grows seems potentially great. Aggro paladin will like this. Obviously better on the play than the draw, though.
Evasive Chimera - I like untargetables. I think this is also better than MC is giving it credit for. Still won't get run.
Grizzled Wizard - Gimmicky. This is just a raptor.
Bad Luck Albatross - Well-statted, which means this actually might be used in aggressive decks. I'd run it.
Blowtorch Saboteur - I thought this was a bad Saboteur, until I realized that the use doesn't have to be this turn. So you get a 3/4 "for free" in the sense that you use 3 mana to cost opponent 3 mana. Or simply lock out their hero power indefinitely. Certainly not squeezing it in until the late game, anyway.
Living Dragonbreath - pack filler.

Frizz Kindleroost - Definitely overrated.
Dragonmaw Poacher - Will dominate the day 1 meta and probably a long time to come. I'm honestly thinking of avoiding putting dragons in my early decks just to duck this guy.
Hoard Pillager - amazing for cards with a key weapon, like Ancharr.
Evasive Feywing - Good aggressive card, but it enables Dragonmaw Poacher.
Faceless Corruptor - Circumstantially really good. I still don't think it's Oasis Surger.
Kobold Stickyfinger - Potentially hilarious. Nice Aluneth ya got there, buddy.

Utgarde Grapplesniper - definite meta-dependent card. If people avoid dragons because of poacher, then sure.
Evasive Wyrm - I actually think this is the worst of the evasive cards and that's with rush, divine shield, untargetable, and reasonable stats.
Gyrocopter - You may have convinced me that this is actually a really good card I need to keep an eye on.
Evasive Drakonid - definitely a good card. How do you deal with this besides maybe Deadly Shot?
Shu'ma - Looked like the worst legendary at first glance, and maybe it is, but the ability to flood a board cannot be underestimated. Quest hunter, token druid, any shaman with bloodlust...and it's hard to clear a 7-health minion AND remove a flood of weenies in the same turn. Any deck that runs this will have pushed opponents to spend their answers before turn 7.

Does WoW count, given that I spent hundreds of hours in it during 2004-2008?

I don't have any way of checking the time played, but the answer's probably Hearthstone, because I've got to imagine I've got hundreds of hours in that...maybe even a thousand. Meanwhile, I only have two games on Steam that have 216+ hours played, and I haven't touched either recently.

Worth noting, I'm paying WoW month to month, and my subscription lapsed earlier this week. I chose not to immediately recontinue it. I've mostly only been playing to raid, and my guild wasn't sure what would be happening with the holiday weekend, so I just mentally resolved to go without WoW until next Friday.

I buy computers very infrequently, and then just sit on the machine I have for usually 5+ years. Seldom, if ever, upgrade unless I have a very specific need. Old computer still works, but I feel like it's starting to get bogged down with crap and the specs on it play most indie games just fine but I'm starting to hit that point where I'm defaulting to lowest settings on anything remotely intensive. So I guess I could reformat the HD and then just buy consider a graphics card. Here's my current computer:

...y'know, looking at the specs on paper, my old computer actually still looks pretty okay. But it's definitely not new. What am I missing? I dunno exactly how old it is, but my BIOS date is 11/5/2010.

It's also very helpful to pick your target, freeze the board, and go after it the following turn. You'll know exactly what you're doing going in and begin at the start of the timer.

That said, it feels like turn timers are wildly inconsistent. They gradually get longer, but it's still not uncommon to get a timer of only ~30 seconds late in the match. I kinda wish there was a "skip combat" button so you could see the results of you getting smacked for 17, and go right to the tavern phase again.

I did really well in my one game with Brann. Also had a Dancing Deryl game where I just danced hats and ended up second. I'm sure my opponents were freaked out by the 12/14 homonculus on turn 5.

Id heard RJ writes weak female characters which kinda put me off.

This is kind of an up-and-down thing. He has some stereotypes he uses frequently. There's a lot of skirt-smoothing and braid-tugging and a few other signature moves of some of the main female characters. Plus there's a ton of gender-based jokes about how men don't understand women and women can't figure out men. But beyond that, yes, there are some very significant female characters and some of them have development that rivals the main trio of boys the series is supposed to revolve around.

It's worth noting that due to the worldbuilding, there are only female magic users in the world up until about halfway through the series, and they are a firmly entrenched part of the world's politics. One could argue that they are the most powerful entity in the land, and that a ruler of any nation needs to treat them like, at the very least, a foreign dignitary, if not their superior. The most central nation on the continent is also strictly ruled by a queen. The desert warriors in the east also have an entire caste of female fighters any of whom could kick the ass of any dude from the main continent.

I was not expecting WoT at #1. Especially not when basically everything else on this list was things I hadn't experienced. And doubly so because, as KP acknowledges, Wheel of Time has some really huge faults.

I like Wheel of Time for what it is. I went back and reread the whole series from scratch when Sanderson's first work was coming out. I came to appreciate a few of the characters a little more, and the book 7-9 slog wasn't nearly so bad, but I still swore to myself afterward that I was never going to read another fantasy doorstop again. I'd come to realize how much more enjoyable reading books under 600 pages was, and although I've broken my rule a few times -- especially when a series gradually gets longer -- if someone said a series was the new Wheel of Time, I don't think I'd be interested, even as much as I respected what Sanderson did to close out the series.

I still have my WoT CCG cards, though. Anyone want to play?

I'm pretty sure watching everyone else play battlegrounds will completely burn me out on the mode before I even get access to it.

More than likely. I felt like I already had a feel for it before I tried it. But having not played an auto-battler myself, actually playing well isn't as easy as it looks when you're backseat gaming with a streamer. Some rounds are easy and others I dawdle too much and don't manage to complete my actions before the clock runs out.

Finished 8th, 6th, and then 1st today. The 1st was playing as Patchwerk. I used the same strategy I mentioned the other night, with two of the dude who buffs by +2 with every demon played, except I had 20 more health and eventually I picked up Mal'Ganis to negate the damage I was taking. Between two of them, two Amalgams, and the ability to dedicate my money to the one open slot on my board and just purchasing buff after buff, I was able to outmuscle the other people in the game. It helped that nobody had an especially good build with poisonous on board.
