I trust Mark Cuban moreso then redditors(even the admins or w/e of WSB).

I should have got in at 80 bucks, but I had no idea it'd rebound. I think signing up for an app and buying 1-3 shares of gme just to see what happens(money i can lose if thats what ends up going on) might be alright.

Gamestop has been tanking. $81 a share now.

I don't know what the future holds. Maybe it goes up again, I don't know. But the mantra of "hold, hold, hold" always sounded dumb because the best time to stop holding is whenever YOU feel comfortable. Not to piss of investors, bankers, and hedge fund assholes. Because if you lost a lot of money on this, does it really matter a small handful of hedge fund guys stand to lose money, when you also lost a ton? Besides, other hedge fund guys not in on shorting GME likely made bank at the same time.

However, I am no expert, and things could change, I guess when it's time for the shorts to actually be dealt with.

But it is tempting to see how low it goes and maybe make a small entry into it, just in case it does explode like people say it can do still.

I can handle lo-fi, but that is a bit of a different issue than low quality MP3 files. I listen to a lot of music where the recording budgets were dang near non-existent and it sounds lo-fi. But I want to capture that in all of its glory, and a low quality MP3 further distorts the original idea.

It shouldn't be too difficult for me to find higher quality copies of this stuff. I could also purchase some stuff which I don't mind doing, to support the artist but also ensure I get high quality mp3 files or FLAC.

One of the easiest ways I've discovered to tell if an MP3 is low quality is the cymbals on the drums. They have artifacts on their sound in low quality mp3...like a low level whine that just shouldn't be there.

Somebody asked me once why care about audio quality when the stuff you listen to is lo-fi from the studio, and the answer is I want the artists actual ideas to come out, and putting basically a sock in the vocalists mouth with a low quality MP3 is not that original idea.

I am no expert into audio quality, so this may not be 100% correct, but thats my take.

That's the tricky part it seems: maximizing your profit. I own some silver(physical bullion and coins), and buying at the right price and selling at the right price is tricky, though less so because silver always rebounds eventually so it is just a matter of being able to hold onto it until that time, so unless you're buying a ton of it at a super high price(40-50 an ounce) you can always make your money back if you have time(years, it can be) to wait.

But it seems like telling people to hold has no clear exit strategy, unless I am missing something.

Whenever the tap works flawlessly, or a phone, it is a few seconds quicker, in my store, vs inserting the card.

But at the same time, those few seconds are irrelevent to me if the chance for it not working is as high as it is. There's like an 80+% chance it will work, which is high but not super.

Awesome Off-Minor song, but I guess it does sound like that. Thats been my idea even last week. Holding for the sake of holding just sounds kinda off, because you intentionally aren't trying to maximize your gains in a way(though you could if it goes sky high later on).

I'm really just trying to make sense of this. I havent made a move because I'm still trying to make sense of this.

As a layperson observing from the sidelines, the mantra of "hold, hold, hold" sounds kind of stupid to me. I get it in a way, but the best move would be to get out when it makes the most financial sense for you as an individual to get out.

I also realize another facet of all this is to hold so the short sellers on GME lose even more money and get fucked even more, but I really don't care about that necessarily. I just want more money for myself, and if some rich people suffer more losses, cool. if not, I made money so oh well.

But again, layperson observing on the side lines.

Some cards issued have the tap feature, plus phone apps can do tapping as well.

Honestly, I've seen the tap not work enough times I am not going to use it even though I have cards that can do it. Outside of maybe taking a few seconds less to process, I don't see the point when it fails so much(from my experience working retail).

Phone tapping makes sense though, because it is added security.

I kind of agree with the OP. It seems silly for people to plunk down serious money just so their pet can live a little longer(maybe in pain, i don't know). If I was on my deathbed, I wouldn't want to be kept alive for a few more days or weeks in potential agony if I am not going to get better.

i love dogs. I had one as a kid, and I babysit some dogs for a friend of mine once in a while, and they're cool and like me a lot, but some of the logistics of pet ownership kinda pass me by.

One time here I talked about how somebody made a threat to me and I took it seriously, and somebody replied with

"thats not a threat"

so naturally I asked why they didn't consider it a threat, and they replied with

"because I am a human being and understand social interaction"

thats the kind of response that doesnt answer the question, and leads to more questions, which I don't really feel like entertaining, because I can already tell the person isn't actually going to explain their position and instead just give non answers that lead to more questions and yadda yadda until, like what was the point. In me for keeping this going but them for not bothering to use words, unless they really just want to be that guy scratching his back on the support beam holding up 3 levels of an airport like in that one Bill Burr skit about useless, in the way people.

I don't see anything to suggest specific criteria. precedence has been given to presidents, but you have other figures like hamilton, salmon chase(10,000 dollar bill holla) and ben franklin. I feel like as long as they're an important american figure it doesn't matter. Nobody living today even knows who Salmon Portland Chase was....

anyways, a page from the treasury says what i said in my post above

https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/faqs/Currency/Pages/edu_faq_currency_portraits.aspx

There just isn't any defined criteria except dead, and important. they don't specify what degree of importance, though as you'd expect presidents get a lot of action.

look you may think tubman on the 20 is dumb, but nobody, and i mean nobody has any affinity for Andrew Jackson on the blue and green $20s. I collect currency and I don't care, but the reason I don't care is because I want to see the progression of our money. It keeps things interesting and gets more people involved in the hobby. The only denomination I hope they never change(out of any coin or bill) is the dollar. It's been the same design since series 1963, and it's easy to find oldies because outside of the serial number printing method(lighter ink, uneven digits to thicker ink and more even digits) it has not really changed in appearce since, making it the easiest mainline denomination to find oldies and complete the set. I did last year!

They aren't ever going to make a note higher than $100 ever again I am pretty sure, so I don't really see where a new note would fit in. Maybe take the dollar away and give us dollar coins like Canada, and make a new coin, but the American public has shown time and time again they do not care for dollar coins(no interest at all over the current Presidential dollar series. As a coin collector I certainly don't care)

He certainly isn't referencing any criteria from the BEP or the treasury. The treasury has this to say:

"The law prohibits portraits of living persons from appearing on Government Securities. Therefore, the portraits on our currency notes are of deceased persons whose places in history the American people know well.
The basic face and back designs of all denominations of our paper currency in circulation today were selected in 1928, although they were modified to improve security against counterfeiting starting in 1996. A committee appointed to study such matters made those choices. The only exception is the reverse design of the one-dollar bill. Unfortunately, however, our records do not suggest why certain Presidents and statesmen were chosen for specific denominations."

So all they need to be are deceased important historical figures the populace knows well, which Tubman obviously is. You can piss in the wind all you want about who did more historically, but whats the point? You could always say certain people did more, but that would also include people who aren't on money who were more important than those on our money(for example, Salmon P. Chase on the now defunct 10,000 dollar bill...not really a household name in US history).

I was talking about coins in the case of susan b and sacagawea but that distinction really doesn't matter. it's all currency, and non political historical female figures have been on US money for a long time now.

If you think susan B and sacagawea were bad ideas what does that say about the current president dollar coin series where the designs are super generic and bland, and there is so little public interest there are millions if not billions of coins the mint is sitting on they might even have trouble getting rid of if they sold them all for 90 cents a coin. You wanna talk bad ideas, let's talk about the king of bad ideas. People only cared when they first came out because you could buy them on credit with no fees....other than that loophole, literally zero interest.

Treasurer(has been female since 1949 and I don't see this changing now)
Secretary of treasury(Janet Yellen confirmed)
figure(Tubman)

So, this is something kinda neat.

Sure, go for it.

The only change I would NOT be in favor of is altering the $1 bill in any way. There is a reason it is my favorite denomination by far: you can find oldies at a much higher pace because every series sicne 1963 has looked virtually identical outside of the signatures.

You want to put Tubman on a $20? That's great.

i stepped on my current pair of glasses while headbanging(yeah...) and while I could take them somewhere to get refitted and the lenses inserted properly, it works fine for now. But I did buy a new pair a couple of dyas ago.

Now, online has its benefits. frames are super cheap...I remember going when younger(and even as a younger adult) to the optometrist and it being a huge ordeal - now I can get frames with all the bells and whistles on the lenses for under $100.

The problem I have is, none of the frames these websites have look good based on the images alone, and in the case of Warby Parker, NO I don't live in Brooklyn and I am not trying to be so hip I'm up my own ass. I've searched through hundreds of frames on WP and Zenni, and they all have something wrong. I've seen the right frame with color options I don't like, or good color options on awful frames...

Despite the fact these places advertise they can ship you frames to try on and send back, that whole process just seems like a pain in the ass when before covid I could go in and try on 100+ frames in a day if I wanted. Actually having an "expert" with me helps, too.

Ideally, I am hoping, even though we look nothing alike, since I did like this particular frame and how it looked on user "jgmurph" 's face, maybe it'll look good on me, too. Though I've come to realize since I didn't get any sample frames shipped, i'm stuck with it, good or bad, because I didnt try them on first.

So, yeah in my view places like Zenni obviously have amazing prices. Frames and a lot of bells and whistles didnt even set me back $100. But everything else about the process I do not like.

Anyways, I feel like I might like these frames. But I look nothing like this guy so here goes

legal scholars are in a debate over if Trump can be impeached after he leaves office. There is no exact historical precedent to go off either.

Something tells me that if legal and constitutional scholars are in debate over it, none of US know the answer.

To me it seems silly to say that since Trump is no longer president, you can't impeach to bar him from running for office again, though like I said, people far smart than us don't consider it an open and shut case because there is no exact precedent of this situation happening.

Since she didn't lodge anything resembling a formal complaint, and it didn't happen while it was being played, this isn't going to change anything.

And I know a lot of people call heavy music death metal, it is what it is. This is about as far as I can tell she would have been referencing, out of stuff I have put on before, not even considering it could have been somebody else. but since I can't confirm this was it, i'm still gonna occasionally play it.

Some 90s-mid 00s top 40 song is playing over the sound system.

This customer comes in and goes to the lottery machine. My boss and another coworker were talking music, when customer says

"Last time I cam in here somebody was playing death metal and I couldn't stand it! I had to leave; I would have bought more. I like this better"

<Sk8ter boi by avril lavigne comes on>

"but... you can take things too far in the other direction.

However, I'm standing there racking my brain about who would have put on death metal. Now, I'm actually referencing what I know about the actual genre of death metal and not the all encompassing term people use to call things "death metal"

It might not have been me, but I feel like it had to be. So, i'm thinking, and the heaviest thing I can recall playing in store is "Flood" by Boris which isn't death metal and outside of a few parts, isn't all that hard.

But then later on it hit me...I may have discovered the customers source of frustration:

Dopesmoker by Sleep. That HAS to be it. Now, in store we can play whatever we want as long as it isn't too aggressive or obscene/swear words/whatever.

Dopesmoker gets some airplay in the store because of a few reasons:

  • It is one track at around 65 minutes, so I can put it on and forget about it.
  • Long droning riffs? people are a fan of this, for sure. It doesn't sound aggressive to me even if it is super heavy.
  • no swear words. And while this song is one long weed smokers anthem ("Drop out of life with bong in hand" "proceeds the weedian - nazareth") I figure nobody can actually understand what is being said or would put two and two together.

That's it. I think I uncovered this mystery. My issue with this customer is, if you don't like the music, ask us to turn it off. I find it weird you come in at a later date and mention it. Nothing is likely to change though.

Some days you just want to unleash a 60 minute weedian epic of music proportions on the unsuspecting public.
