A lot of people talking about not knowing how to junction or do other things. Some are given formal explanations, most everything is explained in the computer in the Balamb Garden classroom.

Did I understand this game very well my first playthrough as a kid? Ehhh...no. So it isn't like I was any smarter than anybody,

edit: Also, everybody always talks about the level scaling in this game. Higher level enemies have higher level spells to draw, though there are easier ways to get things than drawing them, so one benefit of being a higher level the ability to draw better stuff. But the lowest level or level 100, the game isnt difficult. The enemies scale with you but with even simple junctioning I don't see an issue. This is the easiest FF game I've played to lowest level(since you can get enc_none so early). You can skip every battle aside from forced encounters and bosses 2 hours into the game) and also the easiest to get to level 100 (each level is 1,000 XP, max of 100,000 XP).

Well, I type "US bank" into the browser bar which functions as a search bar. Anyways, I have an account with them and rather then go to www.usbank.com I just type it in and click on the link.

However, since google is such ass, the first link to come up was an AD for Bank of America.

I will get mad to myself sometimes or flip people off, but even if the other person is an idiot, I should calm down and only save it for the worst of the worst.

Honking I only do when I am calling somebody out(like a guy blatantly running a red light) or when somebody really fucks up, like a few weeks ago a guy passed a garbage truck when he likely did not have a clear view of my lane and came close to hitting me. That got a honk.

My friend Scott, mentioned above, one day brought his guitar to sing a song he wrote for a popular girl to ask her out. Now, I understand this is awkward, but ultimately I don't see the issue assuming somebody backs off when told no(which my friend did) but everybody has to go OMG DID U HEAR ABOUT WHAT SCOTT DID and it's like yeah i get it but this is only making the situation more awkward, but it's high school so what are you going to do? Ultimately I think the answer was no and that was that but you'd have thought the principal choked on a dang pretzel or something.

I did play the serious more traditional counter strike mode competitively once. I was the last person alive and got shot with 5 seconds left. A bunch of shit talking and t bags later I was done. Not worth it(and that's likely tame compared to whatever else people do)

(speaking about the United States).

Before I begin I generally do go with the flow of traffic within reason. If the speed limit on a highway is say 65, and people are going 80 in general I will "go with the flow".

But I have always been curious who determines what the flow is? If the speed limit on the highway is 65, and everybody is going 65, is the person who wants to go 80 now setting the flow or disrupting the flow?

I live near a lot of roads that are one way in both directions. If the speed limit is 35 on a road, and the person in front wants to go 30 or 35 max I follow that because I do not want to tailgate and I cannot go through them. But, what if I am on a road with nobody around going 35(speed limit) and somebody comes behind me going 50. Should they not "go with the flow"? Who sets the flow?

Maybe this is just a lot of words and spinning around for something like this but I have always been curious. Is there any US law that states who "sets the flow?"

Senior year I made sure I had study hall as my last class, because you could leave early if you did. I did not drive to school so I sometimes just hung out at the playground across the street(community park) and ran back to catch the bus. I have some memories of sitting on swings listening to music.

I was also on the TV production crew one semester. There was a small studio where you'd record and produce the school announcements. I was anchor a few times. I was horrible at it(way too stiff and nervous) but i kinda liked being up there.

One time I walked into the bathroom. My friend Scott saw me walk in, but he didnt know where I went. He assumed I was in the first stall, but I was in the third, so he went to the sink and flicked water on the person in the first stall.

It was one of those popular kids. He exits the stall and my friend is like scared shitless. What was meant for an annoying prank for me could have gotten so much worse. The kid looked at Scott and said "Do that to me again and I will fucking destroy you" or something similar. Walked away.

Our middle school had roughly one gas leak a year, so that was fun. Outside on the football bleachers in what felt like 90 degree weather, only to come in side and every water fountain blocked off(I guess so kids wouldn't fight over em).

This one time in gym class this kid Mark was pissing me off. Mark was one of those semi-popular kids who was dumb as a rock and super annoying, at least to me. I didn't like him but I tried to avoid him mainly but he'd keep coming up to me when he'd see me and just...I don't know. Lean in(possibly with hand on shoulder) and repeat my name to me really exaggerated like, in a way you'd speak to a toddler "AYE EEEEH JAYYY" shit pissed me off.

One time in gym I was in the weight room talking to my friend, also named Mark, when he interrupted us three times to do this whole routine. I hated it, getting up in my space, the whole deal. After the third time I was fuming mad.

So when class was over I ran ahead, waited around a corner and when he came past I cracked him in the face. We scuffled for a little and then he told me to "whoa calm down, maaan" and that was that. I didn't get in trouble thankfully, he didn't give me a beat down, I want to think this shit stopped or just happened a lot less, but I can't remember. I...guess it worked? It's been a while.

This is the only time I've ever started a fight with anybody, but man I was soo mad. Fuck you mark!

Do you guys have any stories from high school? Doesn't have to be about fighting necessarily.

My one friend Steve would walk past the library and open up the book return and do a Sand People call from Star Wars(he was also in choir so this was excellent) then run off. Another time a senior must have let loose a rat on senior day where kids are pranking left and right, but they put it in the bathroom next to the biology labs, so the one teacher found it and took it in her room and was feeding it, studying it etc. Plain failed.

It's like a class action lawsuit in a way. Too many people there for the payment to be anything substantial to an individual. I did say I want these people to make money. Yes, having your likeness in the game means you should be entitled to some money. I've said this along, even before NIL. But the vast majority of players add zero value by actually having their real likeness in the game so it is what it is.

I work in retail as the general manager of a liquor store.

I like my job. I get paid decently(and know how to move up to make more should I want to) and the hours are pretty good. But, the main reason I don't mind is because I run a state owned liquor store in a state that is still control. So, I don't have to ask people to sign up for credit cards and memberships, phone numbers, e-mails. I have no real quotas or goals to meet, corporate won't fold and give customers what they want(if I follow policy, I followed policy too bad). It's retail but a better version of it only because it isn't so corporatized and stupid.

I've poached two employees from the Dollar Tree in the plaza because they weren't being treated well over there and at my store they work less and get paid more, and the work is more fulfilling because it isn't the same as general corporate retail.

All this being said, I sympathize with people at their ropes end when they work a retail job making $9 an hour, have to deal with stupid and toxic management(because the company sucks, nobody can be happy at work. managers just can make it somebody elses problem), idiotic asshole customers. I can't blame anybody for snapping or being rude if rudeness is given. I practice good customer service habits in my store, but the foundation is there. I like my job, I like my coworkers, "corporate" isn't so bad, and customers aren't so bad. I can actually enjoy myself and my job as a result, and good customer service follows.

If 85 players on every FBS team(134) opts in, that's over 6 million in NIL money paid out.

There's just too many potential applicants it isn't feasible to give everybody a huge sum of money, especially when most of these players add no value by being in it. I am all for these guys getting paid but realistically the payment amount is what it is.

If the max of 85 players for all FBS teams that's over 6 million in NIL money. 99% of these players have no future playing football and won't bring any value necessarily by being in the game. I think it is a good deal for the most part. I don't particularly think it is a cheap offer

Only if it's actually good and on PC. This is EA here, so chances are it won't be. Madden is terrible and I'd guess, though I don't have too much familiarity with them, the latest NCAA football games(13, 14) probably aren't great either, but since it was the last one people probably have a soft spot for it.

We've confirmed all 134 FBS teams will be in it. Great, that's actually bare minimum. I'll wait and see because I have zero expectations simply because it is EA and Madden has been trash for so long.

I am going "both sides" because I do feel like that contributes heavily to the downfall of media literacy. It isn't that people have their own thoughts and have chosen a side, it's the sports-like supporter mentality that makes it unhealthy. Our side must win!! and we are, because <sources> say we are!! People don't think about the sources they reference and post, all they care about is they won! the source says so!

And yeah, either side in any COVID debate has sources. Masks work and you're wrong if you don't think so, masks do not work and you're wrong if you think they do. The downfall is, if side X wants to win the debate, all they have to do is find some stupid source from Y going "yeah bud, you're side won!" That doesn't mean they won, of course, but to them it's good enough.

I see debates happen all the time where people reference sources that say "we won! you're wrong" but no critical thought has occured at any point. We get to this point because people have picked sides, but not just that, they've picked sides and THEY HAVE TO WIN. So essentially it just becomes a free for all, everybody has sources, fuck it, we gotta win.

TopicMedia literacy is at an all time low in the US
argonautweakend
02/20/24 9:10:02 PM

part of the reason media literacy is so bad is because we have two political parties in this country combined with how territorial people have become. When people have chosen a side, and their side must be victorious, it leads to things like decreased media literacy. People are looking for things that proclaim their side correct. It doesn't matter if the article is truthful or accurate, all that matters is they said my side won.

Take a look at COVID. One side will say masks work! The other side will say masks do not work! Both sides have sources backing up their point, likely no critical thought has been applied, but source says my argument wins!

TopicDo you remember when people paid for things with checks?

There are instances where paying with a check is easier and makes sense at least in the US.

To me, when I bought a car, paying the down payment with a check seemed like the easiest way to do it. If you go onto a bullion website you usually save 4% if you pay by check(thought ACH debit is also a thing and gives you the discount iirc). Sometimes you will encounter a service that paying with a check incurs no fees while paying online does.

Generally though, day to day, there is no reason to use checks to pay for 99% of things. But they can save you if you lose your bank card and do not have any sort of phone app payment thing set up.

I work in retail and we only take checks from business customers but at my store it was one guy but now he mainly uses his debit card. Also at my work, your first pay when you get hired should be direct deposit, but if that isn't set up in time or whatever you may get your first pay as a check. Not really a huge deal, just go to your bank or even the ATM outside to deposit it.

What I failed to notice earlier is that those are star notes, which are always awesome. That doesn't really increase the value any because they made so many 1976 twos(more than any year to date, of which we have 1976, 1995, 2003, 2003a, 2009, 2013 and 2017A). I do not know if the sheets all came in star notes or if it was random or what, but I suspect even so this is common.

BUT we can take it a step further and see how rare these star notes are, by going here:

https://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/star-notes/2#1976

So for notes issued to FED bank A(Boston), we have a total of 1.2 million star notes issued. None of these are going to be rare necessarily, even the runs of 640K. Some star notes come in runs of 100K or less, but none here(looking at you 1999 ten dollar notes!!!!).

Looking into it further I see several images of these sheets with star notes, but cool none the less.

So, uhh, what the heck is a star note, anyways?

The star symbol at the end of both serial numbers indicates this is a replacement note for one damaged in production. They don't reprint individual notes on the spot or anything, nor is this an exact replica(sans star) of a note to have been created. They just wait until a run is over and then print these hundreds of thousands or millions of these to replace what was lost.

I collect every star note I see. I have several hundred at this point, including a brand new FED strap of one dollar star notes that are sequential. I have paid exactly face value for every single one.

I got two mentions!

Uncut sheets are neat. Somebody gave me a 4 note uncut sheet of 1976 twos once in a frame.

Now those serial numbers are recorded as being in a sheet. So if you cut this up to make it appear like an error people will know its cut from a sheet because of the serial numbers. Most modern sheets they reserve the top end of serial numbers. I have found two bills cut out of a sheet(just cut not altered to suggest an error) before. A five and a one. Both begin with 999 which is a good tip off its from a sheet. Some reference out there probably has the exact serial number ranges for the sheets of 1976 twos.

The signature on the left, Francine Neff is one of my favorites. Contrast with William Simon on the right which may be my least favorite of all time aside from Steven Mnuchin(only man or woman to not do a full cursive signature. It looks like an MS word font nobody uses).

But yeah neat
