Oh my God that sounds amazing, and here I was painstakingly casting break on every enemy so that they'd just give me GF points instead of exp, I could have used that!!!
Card also works, as does devour.

Just keep in mind that the trick is for when you have Seifer as enemies scale to your parties average level (minus Seifer) and not just Squall's.

Oh so it's kind of like xenosaga ep 2 when you only have shion in your party and can use her to level up.

Ah right it's the level average so its usefulness is limited... When do we have seifer in the party that this would be useful for our GFs? Do we have all the gfs or just a couple

A lot of people talking about not knowing how to junction or do other things. Some are given formal explanations, most everything is explained in the computer in the Balamb Garden classroom.

Did I understand this game very well my first playthrough as a kid? Ehhh...no. So it isn't like I was any smarter than anybody,

edit: Also, everybody always talks about the level scaling in this game. Higher level enemies have higher level spells to draw, though there are easier ways to get things than drawing them, so one benefit of being a higher level the ability to draw better stuff. But the lowest level or level 100, the game isnt difficult. The enemies scale with you but with even simple junctioning I don't see an issue. This is the easiest FF game I've played to lowest level(since you can get enc_none so early). You can skip every battle aside from forced encounters and bosses 2 hours into the game) and also the easiest to get to level 100 (each level is 1,000 XP, max of 100,000 XP).

You have Seifer as a part of the SeeD quest at the beginning of the game. That's it.

There is enough, tho. You can learn junction abilities with item too.
Get tonberry, learn familiar, and then visit pet shops like the one in timber.
I have tonberry and the shops, how do I go about maxing all the stats instead of just the guys?

just look it up at that point, I'm not sure if maxing stats required doing the card quest on disc 2/3 but it helps. Eden probably was important too in some way. But not worth it to max stats.

Using Card on enemies is far better for that. You only get GF points along with magic/items that can be turned into incredibly powerful magic early on if you let your GF learn the proper abilities.

Junctioning isn't a bad concept. It just wasn't implemented very well. If you want to see what eight's system looks like when done correctly, just go play Golden Sun.

I dunno, I've played through the game like eight times and only lost to the final once, lol.

Oddly enough, the one time I lost wasn't even my first playthrough. It was when I brought Rinny with the cheap-ass Angel Wing Meteor max speed autohaste build. You know, the build where you just kill everything like instantly. Maybe it's because I was relying too hard on that and just ignored the other party members.

Yeah it's also the reason I made a beeline to get diabolos and encounter-none. It is a shame that for a game like an rpg to actively discourage you from playing said game in the form of random battles due to level scaling but it is what it is.

higher level enemies = higher level magic to draw. Granted there are easier ways to get magic, but they did include a benefit to doing so.

For the most part, enemies got their best magic by level 30. So leveling up past that tends to be a pure disadvantage unless you know and abuse the mechanics.

But one thing FF8 got right is to include random encounters that are actually dangerous, such as Ruby Dragon and Malboro, even/especially at high levels.

because what good are random encounters for if they don't do anything?

Have you been to the special islands at the left and right sides of the map?

But the thing is, many games offer random encounters with a possibility of there being a tough enemy from those encounters, within the final fantasy series itself in fact. Heck, even pokemon has a chance random encounter with a tougher enemy in specific areas. Its not unique to ff 8 besides the aforementioned t-rex in the garden

they could be more dangerous in most games, though I don't really play turnbased rpgs anymore besides pokemon.

^ ^ yeah I sometimes turn off encounter-none just to see how strong I am against regular enemies and how quickly I can beat them up.

My average party level is maybe around 22? Squall himself is level 22, and the rest are usually at his level or lower, so early 20s overall.

Personally, I never do the card quest. I'm an obsessive completionist, but I just hate the whole concept of the quest.

I do like the card game. But the whole thing where you have to find this specific person, lose this specific card to them, etc... I just hate it, lol. Do you even get another chance to get cards like Minimoog, that you have to give up to progress the quest?

Anyway, the game is easy enough without whatever you get for doing the quest, lol.

Tonberry's Level Up/Down also negates the need to level your characters.
You want to draw rare magic from level 100 enemies? Just fight the regular ones and level them up to max.

I remember hating the monkey quest.

be glad you are playing the game in a non-broken way.

the secret boss certainly is cheaper.

That particular boss has a set attack pattern though. Pay attention for a few rounds and you can prepare for its next attack.

Also aura + Zell's limit break
