they made a weird decision to not enforce reading order AND sell them out of order (you need to read Kasumi>Kei>Marie>Rea, but they're selling the routes as Kasumi+Marie and Kei+Rea), so make sure you read the correct order

Even in the most balanced games, aggro >>> everything else. Guilty Gear (pre-Xrd as I didn't fanatically study the games after XXAC+) was widely regarded as one of the most balanced FGs around and even there, the S tier characters were the most aggro ones.

it literally just depends on the game's tempo

in the street fighter series, 80% of a fight is footsies (and a top character right now in 5 is guile apparently...). in dota, you spend the first 15-30 minutes doing a weird dance of harassment and farming without many overly aggressive dives unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure it will end well, because being out of position can be punished heavily

for every starcraft zerg rush kekeke there's an age of empires 2 where matches can end up taking hours

Sengoku Rance is among my favorite games period even if you disregard the VN aspects. it's basically like a romance of the three kingdoms game. the other Rance games are great too, but they're all standard RPG gameplay. Alicesoft released another title first, Big Bang Age (Daibanchou) with similar gameplay to Sengoku Rance too, if Rance annoys you for some reason

Ar Nosurge IS my favorite game of all time and is really VN-y. no ero tho, and it's vita/ps3. It's a spiritual sequel kind of to Ar Tonelico games

Duel Savior has a lot of fun side-scrolling beat em up style combat, and a postgame lengthy dungeon that keeps throwing bigger challenges at you

Bunny Black feels similar to rance, but it's a dungeon crawler. second game is also translated

i never got too far into them, but Aselia the Eternal and Yumina the Ethereal (...not actually related at all lol) both have a lot of gameplay. Aselia is really serious, Yumina is school shenanigans early on then apparently diverges into a more epic scale later on

Kamidori Alchemy Meister feels like Fire Emblem kinda but less punishing

definitely not happening at this point, unfortunately

pso2 definitely feels like a world that slightly evolves bit by bit over time- while technically you can start at episode 4 (the game essentially forces you to if you're new, and claims temporary amnesia due to events from episode 3), it would be really fucking jarring to just skip over about half a dozen meticulously crafted raid bosses treat them all in the past tense

i can't see starting at an earlier point (beginning of ep 3) and speeding up the process would be healthy for the game, either. pso2 is a really casual game, and rushing people to keep up with content would kinda suck

you can also just literally skip the prequel trilogy in star wars and watch in the order they were made, so watching phantom menace and then dropping star wars is completely the fault of the viewer; can the same be said of dresden files? can you just pick up a book in the middle and retain full enjoyment?
