Pro-choosing life. Abortion's bad, and should be avoided to as much of an extent as possible, but sometimes it is actually the better option for all involved parties, and people should be able to make that choice.

Except that it literally changes nothing. Whether you call them a business or a public service, they highlight the other things they do while claiming that abortion is only a tiny portion of their business. However, if that were true and the other services they provided were so important, they wouldn't jeopardize everything by engaging in the ONE controversial activity they have. And if you weren't so misinformed and so lacking in reasoning abilities, you'd recognize that. Granted, even you seem to be highlighting abortion as its only essential service so maybe your whole diatribe is an elaborate wink and a nod to show that you know it's a complete falsehood but you're going to spread it anyway.

Or, you know, maybe they feel they shouldn't compromise on that service just because of political pressure, because it's a fight worth fighting. I'm not sure why PP having a spine is such a hard concept for you to grasp.

If they obviously indicated "don't use this lane," then any damages arising from his attempt to use that lane are 100% his fault, regardless of whether or not he could see an obvious reason to have the lane blocked off. If there was enough of a gap to suggest that the lane might have been usable, then he can't really be faulted for trying to use it, and the crew should do a better job in the future of segregating their work site from the active road.

Similarly, adding a strong-flavoured sauce like ketchup masks the flavour of the beef itself and means there's no point in using higher-quality meat. It's not that he's wrong to like his steak that way. He's just an idiot to waste good beef like that.

I bet the reason is that it's the best way to let wine store and age.

Indeed it is. Corks don't let that much oxygen into the bottle so it gives wine chance to breath but that all that much.

That varies by wine. The whole "wine gets better with age" thing isn't actually true (at least not as a blanket statement). Wine changes with age, as stuff oxidizes, but whether that entails getting better or worse changes on a wine-to-wine basis, and on just how long it's aged. The bottle's closure will affect that oxidation process, and I would imagine some wines benefit more from having a little bit of airflow through a cork, while others benefit more from being kept airtight by a screw cap.

It's also possible this one went with a cork just to pretend to be fancier, because that also happens. Sometimes, vinting is really complicated and there are a billion different factors to consider, other times, you can just take it completely at face value.

Affect means to do vague "things" to something.
Effect means to cause or create something.

I vote effect.

Are you guys high?

Affect is a verb.
Effect is a noun.

"Affect" also has a noun definition (expressed emotional state, pronounced with a hard A), and "effect" also has a verb definition (to bring about or facilitate). They're less common than their counterparts (the noun definition for "affect" in particular is largely just used as a medical/psychiatric term), but still quite valid, and a fantastic way to trip up amateur grammar police.

The effect of your efforts to affect my word choice has been to effect a particularly jovial affect as I laugh at you.

In this particular case, either "affect" or "effect" could be used, but I feel "effect" fits better with the specific wording Zang used. If it were reworded (to, perhaps, "if there's anything large enough on this world to affect the global climate, it's my dick"), "affect" might be a better choice, but I'd definitely go with "effect."

In some ways, you could make that argument. You should elaborate on that analogy, because you might actually have a pretty insightful point. That, or you're just noting the superficial similarity and not actually thinking about it at all, but I'll still invite you to build on it.

Well I thought it'd be pretty obvious. To say "all lives matter" when the phrase "black lives matter" is used, it's saying there isn't anything special there, you're just making a mountain out of a molehill for the sake of conflict. The point of the #BLM movement is to point out that racist police are handling situations with black suspects more aggressively and violently than they might against a non-black suspect, which does have data to back it up, depending on which police department you look at.

Likewise, declaring all faiths as unruly when the argument that Islamic radicals are the ones who act out violently is just trying to diminish the inordinate amount of Islamic-based aggression towards civilians by claiming other faiths are just as volatile, which at this time is not the case.

That's not what's being said, though. "All religions have violent stuff in them" is usually a response to people suggesting that Islam is somehow inherently more violent than other religions, which in turn is usually being used to promote some sort of regulatory measure that will affect all Muslims, or to justify hatred and fear. It is meant to be dismissive, because the "Islam is inherently violent" position is one that should be dismissed. Just as with every other faith, no matter what violent ideals are lurking in the book, the majority of its practitioners practice it peacefully.

Radical Islam is indeed associated with a large number of terrorist attacks in today's world, but solving that entails focusing on the radical part, not the Islam part. Focusing on the Islam part will result in measures far too non-specific to help, and will hurt a great many innocent people.

OhhhJa posted...
I agree that this bears a large portion of the blame but not nearly all of it. If the region were dominated by Christianity I believe we'd see vastly different results. Mainly, bc there's no verse telling you to murder non believers (or the more derogatory term, infidel).

You'd probably see more stoning than beheading, but that's about the only difference. These people want to be violent, and they'll latch on to any excuse they can find. They don't need a specific verse to encourage them.

OhhhJa posted...
Not to mention, we're finding now that many Muslims that grew up in developed countries are orchestrating these attacks as well

We live in a world where propaganda's extremely easy to distribute across country lines. A Muslim doesn't have to actually live in an unstable Middle Eastern region to be convinced that the Western world is out to get them. That's actually really easy to do these days, courtesy of the rise in Islamophobic sentiments. Fear and hatred are the opposite of how you want to approach an ideological war, because that's not how you win over hearts and minds.

All a big question mark, with the only certainty being that ISIS will continue to try to become this big nightmare. Whether or not they make it is anyone's guess.

Given the constant efforts to prevent them from growing, I wouldn't expect that kind of growth to happen. I'm presuming the question here is "current approach vs. nuking," and the current approach means they aren't ever going to be developing that kind of power.

If, hypothetically, ISIS did become a legitimate nuclear threat? Then I think nuking them would be on the table, because the stakes would be high enough to justify the collateral damage. I don't see that happening, though.

21Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell what you own and give the money to the destitute, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come back and follow me.” 22But when the young man heard this statement he went away sad, because he had many possessions.

Of course, fixating on that specific detail is rather disregarding the point I was making, so I suggest that you give my post another read and try to understand it better.

@adjl I know why I was modded.

Do you? Because you aren't exactly acting like it.

I gather the point you're making. Let's call mine a counterpoint. It's a lot easier to rationalize your religion being one worth following when it preaches giving to the poor rather than convert or die horrifically

That's more a tangent than a counterpoint, but regardless, it's been pointed out many times already that most other religions include their fair share of ugly violent bits. The bible's pretty fond of stoning people; it's not like giving to the poor is the most objectionable thing in there. Likewise, it's not like beheading non-believers is the nicest thing in the Quran. There's good stuff as well (including bits about giving to the poor). Healthily incorporating religion into one's life always entails picking and choosing which bits will actually be beneficial, regardless of the religion in question.

Been spending time with both my old lady and my stripper friend. I should have a 3 way with them.

Is one's "old lady" the female equivalent of one's "old man"?

It's a less common expression, but I'm definitely having trouble parsing that as anything other than Erik saying he wants a threesome with his mom.

Who knew being honest to a nobody cashier could get me in so much trouble?

I mean, I really shouldn't be surprised by how utterly devoid of self-awareness you are by now, but I'm still kind of taken aback that you honestly believe that's why you were modded.

People like adjl seriously like to take the high road and straw-man atheists because we're against churches and religions

Uhh, no. Atheists are perfectly fine. Just don't be obnoxious about it, like any religious belief.

they exploit the weakest aspect of humans, which is their fear of death

Fear of death is far from being humans' weakest aspect. There are far better ways to manipulate people for fun and profit, mostly by exploiting more immediate desires and worries.
