13th: ESP

ESP was an ability that debuted in Planet Robobot.

With this ability, Kirby focused his mind and summoned special forces to attack enemies. Kirby can also teleport about.

The attack names and the hat that comes with this ability may be a reference to Ninten and Ness from MOTHER/EarthBound, particularly Nesss appearance in Super Smash Bros.. MOTHER 2/EarthBound and MOTHER 3 (which stars Lucas) were both co-developed by HAL, the developers of most Kirby games.

ESP is the only new ability in Planet Robobot to return in Star Allies.

14th: Doctor

Doctor was an ability that debuted in Planet Robobot.

With it, Kirby could throw pills and mix devastating brews for attacks. The result was an ability with a variety of moves like Circus.

This ability made a surprise appearance in the 3D spin-off Battle Royale.

It is also one of four Kirby Clash abilities.

(Planet Robobot is my least favorite Kirby game. Doctor and ESP are probably one of the few things I like about it. And even then there are abilities I like much more than those.

15th: Parasol

Parasol is an ability that debuted in Kirbys Adventure.

With it, Kirby holds an umbrella that can open and close. It can act as a shield for objects falling from the sky, and also allows Kirby to float slowly in the air without puffing up.

Interestingly, it is in Dream Land 2 and 3, but not 64.

16th: Sword

Sword is arguably the most iconic copy ability except for Beam, debuting in Kirbys Adventure. Generally, games that focus more on elemental powers such as Dream Course, the Dark Matter Trilogy, and Canvas Curse dont include this ability, but we havent had a game like that in a long while, so it appears that Sword is here to stay.

Kirby wields a sword. Simple as that. It can cut ropes. It has had lots of variations over the years, ranging from being infused with Ice/Fire/Spark to a Super Ability to Robobot Armor. And it has TWO helpers in Super Star Ultra. Hooray? Oh, and two mix abilities in 64 are somewhat similar to this ability. Theres also the Rainbow Sword in Dream Land 2.

Its returning in Forgotten Land as always. No surprise there, as it was also present in Battle Royale.

(I was totally expecting Parasol to get the boot, or maybe Fighter. Sword getting eliminated definitely shakes things up. To be fair, it always got its saves late into the rounds.

Plasma was an ability that appeared in Super Star, Air Ride, and Star Allies.

With it, Kirby charged up energy. The more he charged up, the more powerful the attack he unleashed would be.

Suplex was an ability that appeared in Super Star and Star Allies.

It plagiarizes Backdrop detail for detail, with just a few tiny differences, most notably a kick attack. It even has the same ability giver, Bugzzy. Poor, poor Backdrop.

(I really dont have anything to say here, other than, good job on placing in the top 20. Also, the non-Water W abilities barely escape elimination!

19th: Whip

Whip was one of four new abilities in Return to Dream Land, the others being Leaf, Spear, and Water.

With it, Kirby sported a cowboy hat, and had a long range weapon. Said weapon could grab enemies and items from afar.

This ability has appeared in every game with copy abilities since its debut appearance, thus having way more appearances in games than its siblings, which have all appeared in only three games each.

(So this is our first W elimination since Wrestler, which was a very long time ago. And three of the four W abilities were part of the final four unsaved abilities!

Also, with this, we only have one RtDL ability left, and that is Water, which was not saved late unlike the other W abilities!

20th: Cleaning

Cleaning, originally known as Clean, was the only new ability in the Dark Matter Trilogy, being exclusive to Dream Land 3 for the longest time.

It was a move with a very short range. Like any other ability, though, it could be combined with animal friends for different results.

In Star Allies, it had a different moveset entirely, with some moves based on the animal friend combinations.

(First off, I needed a break, which is why it took so long for this post to appear.

Second, I was not expecting that result.

Third, Im sad because Dream Land 3 is my favorite Kirby game. The Dream Land 3 animal friends get treated so badly compared to the Dream Land 2 ones!

21st: UFO

UFO is an ability that is known for being a secret and hidden in areas, as well as being hard to get.

It debuted in Kirbys Adventure. It was arguably the most powerful ability there. Kirby could charge up his attack, for a total of four moves.

• Spit Star
• Double Spit Star

Notably, there was a glitch that allowed Kirby to keep the UFO ability, when normally he loses it after he exits the stage.

It has appeared in a few more games since then. In Planet Robobot, it was locked behind an amiibo unless you got 100%.

(That went smoothly. Too bad UFO was eliminated.

22nd: Stone

Stone is an ability that debuted in Adventure and has had staying power throughout the series. It even appeared in Kirbys Block Ball!

With this ability, Kirby transforms into a stone, a structure, or some similar entity. He is invincible for as long as he is in this form. When a stone, Kirby stays still, unable to do anything, until he transforms back. Beginning in Dream Land 2, Stone also has the property of sliding down slopes.

In Squeak Squad, Stone is absent. Metal, a new ability with similar properties, takes its place. This wouldnt last, and Stone continues to make appearances throughout Kirby titles.

23rd: Hi-Jump

Hi-Jump was an ability that was part of the original Adventure roster.

It was self explanatory. Kirby could leap into the air really high up, charging against enemies along the way.

It was also in Dream Course, sporting a similar function in a 3D setting.

After a 12 year absence, Hi-Jump returned in Squeak Squad, as Squeak Squad reused assets from Nightmare in Dream Land. It acted like it did previously.

The next main line game, Return to Dream Land, would also feature Hi-Jump. Here, it was given a handy downwards dive.

Three abilities were cut in the transition from RtDL to Triple Deluxe. These were Hi-Jump, Tornado, and Water.

Tornado would make another appearance in a spin-off, Battle Royale. Water seemed like it was being replaced by Poison at first, but that turned out to not be true, and it made a triumphant return in Star Allies. Its also available to play as in Kirby Fighters 2.

Hi-Jump, however, has been left in the dust. Will it ever return for another game?

(Ok. Now that its been eliminated, I can say that, yes, Hi-Jump is my favorite Copy Ability. Im surprised it was able to make it to the top half of the competition. Rest peacefully, Hi-Jump

24th: Jet

Jet was an ability that appeared in Super Star, and made a second appearance 20 years later in Planet Robobot.

With it, Kirby wore a stylized jetpack on his head and back. He could fly like any jet could, and could also light fuses. He could even store up power for use later.

(I saw this coming. Jet was the last ability saved several times in recent memory. We still have plenty of Super Star abilities left in the running, of course!
