Actually, you know what you should absolutely do? Go northwest. Do the dungeon there. It'll trim a ton of needless busywork out and you can actually enjoy exploration without having to worry about Link's pathetic stamina wheel.

What kinds of things do you WANT to find when you explore an open world game?

I've always liked finding new things, such as new quests, activities, and places. I love it when games encourage you to explore and find new things. GTA is my favorite open world series, and I liked that you just had all these activities you can do. I felt that the cities and countryside were interesting enough to just drive around in, and in GTA V and Red Dead Redemption, you could find some small tasks to do. That's fun.

BotW is more similar to me to Oblivion (Shrines are basically [Oblivion spoilers?] Oblivion Gates to me, even) to me, though. In that game, I liked that I could explore and find something interesting, like a cool cave, ruins, or something else. That's present in BotW too, but it's harder to find. I'd also love to find more quests and such to do, but I seem to have trouble with doing that - maybe it's because I haven't been in any town for a while. I also would like to see and talk to more characters as well.

Hypothetically, if weapons werent an issue, would you enjoy the combat? Im concerned that if you got frustrated by a combat Shrine that you just might not be into the combat

My problem with the combat is that the enemies take too many hearts. I only have 4 hearts, and sometimes I get killed in 1-2 hits by enemies the game has already directed me to face when following the quests it gives me.

Currently, I think it is the most overrated Switch game. Super Mario Odyssey is currently my favorite and my 2017 GotY.

You've probably already found one fairy fountain, so maybe you can purchase the Soldier's armor (I think this is also found in Hateno) and upgrade it once.

Actually, I haven't, or I don't recall finding one. It's possible I did, but it could have been such a long time ago.

Have you gone to Hateno Village? IIRC, the main quests direct you there after first visiting Kakariko. There, you can upgrade some of your Sheikah slate abilities (bombs and stasis) which makes things a lot easier.

I've been there, but I didn't realize you could upgrade those abilities. Honestly, I haven't gotten much into using the abilities, but I should. I'll probably head over there and see what I can do.

I think it is the combination of a world I can't get much into, items breaking too much, and the amount of game overs that just hurts my enjoyment so much. Because when I manage to get past one of those things, another thing will stop me. According to my Switch, I've played about 15 hours of this game over the past 15 months...

I'll try the bomb trick though, and see if that helps.

This game should have been, for me, the best game of all time. I love Zelda, and I love open world games. Yet, I can't get into it.

I'm not sure what it is. Though I don't really want to bash the game, I have a lot of problems with it. The world has to be the blandest world I've ever played. Compared to other games including Oblivion and GTA (even the desert and forest of GTA: San Andreas), I just don't get excited or interested in the world. When I get past that and start exploring, I find my weapons and armor, even good ones, break too easily and the enemies too easily kill me. Among my friends, the game over screen even became a meme.

This is a shame to me, because I was so hyped that I preordered the season pass too and so, at $80, this is the most expensive game I ever bought (excluding MMOs with subscriptions, anyway). I really want to like it, and I really feel like I'm missing something special here considering how much praise it is getting.

So, any tips for how I can enjoy the game more and get back into it?

Anyway to answer what I think is the intended question:

I use a hybrid approach. I have a wire going from my router to a switch which goes to my desktop PC. But since I wanted to connect some other things anyway, I bought a switch and connected that to my PC, TV, PS3, and a Switch. Yes, I connected a switch to a Switch.

My other TV, Roku, all laptops, and all phones connect to my wireless network. Which, in case anyone is wondering, is called Overrated.

I think it must have been an exciting age of adventure. Of course, I don't like that many natives were killed. But one must keep in mind that "Might makes right" is the only truly valid law in the universe. I can't tell you how many times I've had a person with more European ancestry than me ask me where I'm "really from" (they didn't accept the US, they wanted my ancestry from many generations ago despite that also partially being the US) and I ask them the same thing and they tell me they're just American. They won't accept my questions on if they're British or German or French or whatever. I want to know what you think.

And for what I think: I feel it doesn't really matter. All that matters for being American (or being part of any other country) is whether or not you're a citizen.

It's not "limiting yourself," it's thinking of the future, and of your eventual children. Children whose parents are of different ethnicities face psychological issues, lack of sense of belonging. It's not a good thing for a child, nor an adult. The more distant the ethnicities are, the harsher the child's situation. Think of the children. :)

I think the fact that some people say that we can't have races or ethnicities mixing gives them more psychological issues than the simple fact they are mixed race.

Those online DNA tests are huge scams, I recently read an article about how they intentionally falsified results to fuck with people - just a little bit so it's not obvious, of course (https://archive.is/AePkf).

I believe it said something like 4% "Africa North" and 1% Nigerian. I just assume that those lower numbers are more error than anything, or that it's possible that such things could have happened many generations ago. I don't look African at all, but in theory, I could see how there could be a trace. Still, I mostly ignore the little amounts.

As for immigration... I generally dislike it, but if the cultures of the hosts and the guest are close enough, it can work well enough. Of course, in the USA lots of people have ancestors from more than one nation, in your case it's complicated. Still, different European cultures are close enough that in the US (and similar countries) people of those cultures tend to stick together.

As for you particularly, since you are also almost half Native American, I'd say, in terms of nationality, you're as USA as anyone. USA is the right place for you. Australia is close enough to you, and you shouldn't have much trouble if you moved there. You'd have a much harder time being accepted in China or Japan (realistically, you'll never be accepted as part of their society, aside from a handful of friends at best).

Vlado, how do you feel about immigration and mixed race people?

For example, I took a DNA test and I'm 49% European and 41% Native American. Specifically, my ancestry points to these modern day countries: United States, Italy, Mexico, United Kingdom, Spain/Portugal, Ireland/Scotland/Wales, and various other countries that fall into "European Jewish" and "Scandinavia." I was born and raised in the US as were my parents (in fact, we've all lived in Southern California since birth).

What's my ancestor's land? Do I say it's the US because that's where my parents are from and because I'm partially Native American? Do I say it's Europe because that makes up the biggest chunk of my DNA overall? Do I claim all those European and North American countries as my ancestral land? Partially, in proportion to my percentages?

If I found opportunities to live in, say, Australia, is that a bad thing if I decided to move there, assuming of course that I assimilate into their culture? If so, is it bad if I married someone there and had kids? How about if an Australian moves to the US and we marry and have kids? How about if we replace Australia with a country that doesn't have a lot of Europeans that moved there, such as Japan or China?

I'm legitimately curious about how all this works.

Animal Crossing is what you make of it. I think there's a good variety of things to do, whether it's fishing, bug collecting, decorating, earning money, or just talking to your neighbors.

That said, Animal Crossing is not and is not designed to be the type of game that you can play for several hours a day. That's not to say people don't end up doing that, especially when they just started a new save or town. But if you're going to play it with the mindset of "beating" it, you're not going to enjoy it. Animal Crossing is more of a game you play for a little bit each day. When I play it, I don't go play for 6 hours straight. I usually play for about a half an hour, sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on how I feel about it and what's going on.

That is what I think the big difference is between Animal Crossing and games like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley. The latter two are games you can play as much as you want at a time and have something to do. Animal Crossing is more of a long term experience. Unless you're time traveling in Animal Crossing, it will take at least one real life year to see all the game has to offer because a lot of the events and collectibles are only available certain times of the year (you're not getting New Year's in May).

You play Harvest Moon and similar to complete objectives in the game. Animal Crossing is more relaxed and more of a game you can hang out and just do whatever in. It's a nice change from being rushed, timed, or under some kind of pressure that you have in other games. The only "games" that are even more relaxed and not like a usual video game are things I don't consider games at all, such as Second Life and VRChat.

Because I remember being at Wondercon and seeing an episode of Timeless early (because the actors wanted to spend less time in the panel) a day early. That didn't seem worth it. Spending hours to wait to play a game for a few minutes that will come out in a few months doesn't seem like it's worth it.

Looks like I can buy a pass for $249. I live in the LA area and for once I can actually afford it and I don't work those days. The job I have now has me not working during the summer, with summer ending the Friday before E3. I don't need a hotel and parking is not a concern since the LA Convention Center is one of the few places in LA that is pretty easy to get to by train.

I only started going to cons of any kind regularly this year, the largest being Wondercon. I know E3 is more of a trade show or conference type of deal than a fan conventions like I've been doing (not to say I haven't been to them - I have been to Wired NextFest 2007 and Microsoft Professional Developers Conference 2009). That said, I think NextFest was cheap and Microsoft sent me to PDC for free.

Think E3 is worth it, or is it too expensive for what it is these days?
