I know that this is a lot of extrapolation, but that's a pretty massive shift, and I would imagine that has to have some impact beyond custom characters. GameFAQs just likes female characters a lot more now than they used to.

That combined with Tifa>Sephiroth more or less confirms that Samus is stronger than Mario indirectly and is our true #2. She probably beats Cloud easily if they face that year.

I mean if Cloud draws ANY strength from Smash Bros. (which based on the now massive gulf between him and Sephiroth is probably the case) then even if Cloud were close to Samus then Samus just Samus/Snake 2006s him.

Post-Brawl announcement Snake was miles ahead of pre-announcement Snake and faced the weakest Samus ever and got smoked.

Samus draws a lot of strength from Smash, so characters who rely on Smash for a lot of their strength are especially vulnerable to her.

People talking up Cloud 2018 is really funny to me.

He got his biggest embarrassment in his history (even more than losing to Squirtle) at the hands of Link, and needed Smash Bros. and a contest gimmick to even have an argument for being #2.

I think it's reasonable to assert that all SNES games boosted (or were finally "unleashed" against modern games) in 2015, but even if assuming this, CT will have needed to boost considerably more than the others to become the #1 game on the site. Remember that strengthening yourself relative to RE4 or MGS3 is one thing. Doing so against Ocarina, when the primary basis of your boost is being a game from Nintendo's golden era, is entirely another.

Unless we want to argue that Resident Evil 4, a game best known for being on the GameCube, is linked to Metal Gear Solid 4 to the same extent as Twilight Princess was to Brawl.

Since I think by the time we get the next Games Contest Nintendo will still be pushing the Switch, and a system having a second Smash or Mario Kart will hurt that game a TON.

When Bacon opened things up for historical characters (so long as they were clearly different in personality to the actual person), the push was for Gandhi for Civilization, since in that series due to a glitch he's a comically aggressive violent leader.

Civilization Gandhi was not allowed in the contests because that's too accurate to actual Gandhi apparently.
