damn gacha

I knew my odds of rolling Okita were low with the resources I had on hand but it's just insulting to get like 4 4* CEs and F/Z Berserker (yay np2 i guess) and that's it out of ~40 rolls.

couldn't even insult me with a 5* CE troll. =(

the return of knk luck though i guess i was less invested in this than that so not the worst time for the comeback. can probably get one more 10-roll later on in the banner but still

~~~
also who are these guys voting series and villains? that's cruel and unusual punishment.
I voted "something completely different" but regret it and should have gone with Game of the 90s.
There are other things that I'd prefer, but 90s would probably be a lot better than a random new thing!
Nintendo dropped a trailer for a new Paper Mario, called The Origami King. I watched the trailer, and I think it's a really creative concept.
I just need to know RPG Bowser is back first. Also, it's coming out in two months! That feels like Nintendo doesn't have a great deal of confidence in it.
Yeah but I still remember the people jumping in to accuse everyone of being nostalgia nerds.
Even had someone mention my posts in the FFVII topic even though I made 5, I guess because they stood out that much? Feel like people who aren't a fan just stopped talking. Probably because of the episodic release and a "let's see" attitude. The gameplay seems well regarded at least.
FFVIIR is good! Some strange decisions, to be sure, but good.
I do wish most of the boss fights weren't quite as drawn out. That's probably my main gripe in terms of the gameplay. It feels like a lot of JRPGs are going for the epic multi-phase MMO boss these days though.
I feel like a lot of RPGs don't really nail the balance between where I want difficulty to be. It's usually the random battles that can get too painfully long, though. Like Xenoblade 2 for example - the regular battles can take a couple minutes, for minimal rewards, which isn't that fun. But I love the longer boss battles and would like keeping the same difficulty there. Some RPGs are good at addressing this by giving you a skill/spell that wipes random battles easy but isn't too good against bosses. I like that sort of thing.
Persona's kinda the same. The challenging bosses can be fun, but the dungeons take forever with all the battles you fight...
I agree in a lot of cases.
Though, Persona/SMT to me is actually an exception. I feel like the battles themselves are relatively quick but are still difficult enough to keep me invested--at least in early/mid game anyway. There can be a lot of them though, yeah. Also dying to BS like random enemy who gets 1 turn and casts Hama on the MC kinda sucks.
Most RPGs have a curve where random battles take longer at the beginning because the game doesn't give you crowd control abilities right away. Persona definitely starts going a lot faster once you have spells that hit everything. Skies of Arcadia might be the biggest offender in that regard
From what I played of P3 nothing ever took long.
You either got a first hit and destroyed the enemy in one turn, or they ambushed you and you get a game over before you get to move.
Super Paper Mario is great. Might even be my second favorite Paper Mario game? TTYD still the strongest though.
I only have experience playing Persona 3 on Hard difficulty, but I will say that the mini-bosses took absolutely forever sometimes. (Which still feel a lot like random battles since they're just big versions of normal enemies) Can't say I felt the same way about the normal encounters, although I had to do significantly more normal encounters for grinding/farming purposes than I ever had to do on lower difficulties.
Been playing through Spider-Man. Has some good parts, and I'm getting pretty close to finishing it, but I must say: holy crap the stealth is AWFUL in this thing. Every segment playing as Miles is torture, and Mary Jane's terrible three quarters of the time too (she at least has interesting stuff happens when playing as her, and the part where you can summon Spider-Man with her was actually fun, gameplay-wise).
Ended up finishing Spider-Man. What a way to end! Some of the story beats didn't really hit with me, releasing everyone from the Raft felt more lame than cool but everything about that final battle/ending sequence was fantastic. Wow.
The lowest point of the game was the stealth sections. The ones with Spider-Man himself were mostly fun, since getting caught just meant combat which was all well and good, but the MJ ones were boring and lame (other than the cool story stuff and the actually fun one where she could summon Peter), and the Miles ones were abysmal (and had zero story value on top of that). The best part of the game was the traversal. Making moving around fun is a huge plus for an open world game (and any game, really, but especially open world games), and they nailed it... mostly. Webslinging is super fun for about half the game, and it's still enjoyable in the second half, but it kinda loses its luster? There's no progression, so it's not really all that exciting later on. I kinda feel the same about the world in general. Recreating New York like that is an incredible feat, and combined with the fun of webslinging I enjoyed just going around doing the random tasks for a while, but I was never really engaged with the world? I never felt a drive to explore. I barely learned where anything was - it was always just following target markers. I would've been perfectly happy with a smaller map, since I didn't care about most of the details. A few of those tasks probably could've been excised too - I did basically everything up until the prison section, and there was no reason for, say, the pigeons to exist.
Other aspects: graphics very pretty. Puzzles alright, except tower puzzles bad. Story solid with some great parts. Bosses eh, except the final battle and the Electro/Vulture fight. Kingpin fight at the start too hard.I feel like I should've liked this more, but there were some points where I really hated the game and wondered why I was even playing it. Like why is Sable even in this game? Their role was stupid. Bleh. At least it ended on a high enough mark to leave a positive impression. Not sure I'd be too interested in a sequel, especially since they seem to be going with Miles Spider-Man rather than Spider-Gwen ;_;.
