Ron Paul on abortion:

My opposition to the legality of abortion was strongly influenced during my years of being an OB/GYN. One specific incident really solidified it for me, as I described in my book Liberty Defined (see below).

As someone who believes in the Constitution, I consider it a state-level responsibility to restrain violence against any human being. I disagree with the Roe v. Wade decision. The states should be allowed to minimize or ban abortions.

While in Congress, I proposed the limiting of federal court jurisdiction of abortion. This can still be done with a majority vote in Congress and the signature of the President.

There's no need to wait on the Supreme Court to someday repeal Roe v. Wade.

US spies trying to recover their classified hacking tools have been conned by a man they believed was linked to Russian intelligence, who fed them $100,000-worth of gossip about Trump, according to the NYT and the Intercept.

UPDATE:The CIA has firmly denied the reports, telling AFP on Saturday: The fictional story that CIA was bilked out of $100,000 is patently false. The people swindled here were James Risen and Matt Rosenberg.

The spy saga, unravelling somewhere in Germany, dragged for months, during which the NSA even allegedly used its official Twitter account to send coded messages to arrange numerous secret meetings. The Russian however handed over only those NSA documents that were already publicly leaked, and either hesitated to share or did not have any additional material. Instead he persistently tried to provide various documents which he said were somehow related to Trump officials and alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential campaign.

The Trump-related material turned out to be stuff of tabloid gossip pages, not intelligence collection.

Most of the article is a load of crap, but these's something that's plausible:

A hacker might have downloaded it to one computer, then shared it by USB to an air gapped [off the internet] network for translation, then copied by a different person for analysis, then brought a new USB to an entirely different air gapped computer to determine a strategy all before it was packaged for Guccifer 2.0 to leak, said Barger.

It's pretty convoluted, but it's not impossible, although the fact that the directory structure etc. remained untouched makes it doubtful they were carefully analysed and "packaged for leaking" before being uploaded on the internet.

First, the memo demonstrates that there is a deep state that does not want things like elections to threaten its existence. Candidate Trumps repeated promises to get along with Russia and to re-assess NATO so many years after the end of the Cold War were threatening to a Washington that depends on creating enemies to sustain the fear needed to justify a trillion dollar yearly military budget.

Finally, hawks on both sides of the aisle in Congress used Russia-gate as an excuse to build animosity toward Russia among average Americans. They knew from the classified information that there was no basis for their claims that the Trump Administration was put into office with Moscows assistance, but they played along because it served their real goal of keeping the US on war footing and keeping the gravy train rolling.

But dont worry: the neocons in both parties will soon find another excuse to keep us terrified and ready to flush away a trillion dollars a year on military spending and continue our arguments and new Cold War with Russia.

In the meantime, be skeptical of both parties. With few exceptions they are not protecting liberty but promoting its opposite.
