I met her through a friend at work. She's f***ing chill. We seem to like and obsessed over a lot of the same stuff and some people that we know mutually have been hinting to me that she's into me. Lately, she always tries to find time for just the two of us to go out together, and just the other day she asked me for my number. Cool s***.
However, I was talking to her yesterday and she mentioned graduating from high school last year and that took me by complete f***ing surprise, but I tried to act like it didn't bug me or anything. Would it be a dick move to slowly start distancing myself from her and just keep things platonic? That's good stuff! One of my chief shortcomings is composition, in terms of making characters, environment, and everything else fit together in the same space in a believable way. This is something I should put some practice in on as well.

That's ultimately what I want to do too. Being able to draw out entire scenes with characters hanging out and about and interacting with the environment and such. I'd like to think I'm slowly getting there.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I do think I have some pretty good stories to tell, I'm pretty talented at writing as well. But that's always been my problem: plenty of ambition, not enough follow-through due to a combination of laziness and insecurity. I think after all these years I've more or less finally landed on an art style that I like, and can produce with confidence (at least for characters).

Oof. This hits way too close to home for me :(
I can sit around and talk about all the cool shit I want to make one day, but due to a number of outside factors, I don't always quite have the drive to sit down do the things I really want to do. I've really been trying to work on that.

And thanks, I always appreciate the compliments :D I tried to do commission work for a couple years, but I work too slow to really make any profit with it on a per-hour basis and, quite frankly, I was too unreliable with my time management. I eventually grew to hate having to haggle on every single 30-dollar comm and started craving a steady 9-to-5, which is what I have now (I do graphic design for a local wholesaler). I kept telling myself I'd get back into doing comms on the side, but on my time off I'd rather just work on personal projects whenever the mood strikes. If I ever try to monetize my hobby again, it'll probably be through selling comic-style stories instead of going back to commission work. Got a ton of story outlines, just need to actually sit down and write + draw them.

Now that would be super interesting to see. I've tried to do comics/webcomics in the past but I was just never good at it. You seem like you have a pretty good idea on the characters you want to make stories around based on your original characters from your DA. Here's hoping you pull that off!

Thanks, I appreciate that :D Color's just not as easy / natural to me as lineart, simply because I've got a lot more experience with the latter. But I'll admit that my coloring has come a long way, and I'm quite proud of how far I've come.

Be thee fairly warned though, it's mostly fetish art with a fair amount of nsfw (hence no direct link); probably fairly tame overall compared to some of the stuff you can find on the web, but I wouldn't blame you if your opinion of me changed dramatically for the worse, lol. I haven't posted anything new in years, but I'm hoping to finally get back into things and post some new works in the coming weeks.

Here's my submission. I saw someone mentioning tablets earlier. I use a Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 (4k). I like it a lot, and I'm pretty confident it's one of the best tablets available. (or at least it was in 2019 when I got it) I'm not sure if the price / performance ratio is quite there though; since there's tons of competitors that, while inferior, are often reasonable replacements for substantially lower price points. Still, I'd recommend it for anyone wanting to take art seriously (and by that I mean, anyone attempting to make money off of it like I am)

Oh yeah, I mentioned the tablet. Just looked this up and DAMN! Your tablet is super expensive. I wouldn't mind getting something like that when I'm rolling around in money one of these days. Also, your Corette variant is very adorable.

Wacom Intuos5 for home / personal art, Intuos Pro for work. The Pro's an inarguable upgrade (the pad itself is much smoother for line drawing in particular) in every area but one - they moved the Touch toggle from being mapped to the face buttons to some crappy little flip-switch on the side of the tablet. On my Intuos5 I'd trained myself to tap the Touch function on and off to zoom / rotate on the fly (to prevent the tablet from erroneously reading my resting hand as inputs), but I can't do that nearly as smoothly on the Pro. My old Intuos5 isn't going to last forever, so I guess I'm going to have to get used to using a drawing glove :/

My friend "lent" me his Wacom Cintiq 13HD. I say "lent" because he's been letting me borrow it for a few years now. He dropped a bunch of money on it and never really used it much. But I'm not complaining. For the longest time, I was using a basic little Intuos. Now that I've been using the Cintiq all this time, it has a screen on it and now I'm pretty much spoiled by it lol

Yeah, I was training or whatever to work in the videogame illustration biz, which my brother broke into over a decade ago. He started with Epic games, but he told me 2 years in to not do it because it is highly unstable and unreliable and extremely stressful (he worked for 5-6 different companies since he broke in), I took it to heart and completely abandoned illustration as a career and literally make money by working on the phone or computer for 10 minutes a year lol. Incidentally I am much more successful than my brother (and I have him to thank).

That's pretty cool. I remember I use to want to make video games when I was younger too. Then I shifted gears and wanted to work in animation/television. I already have a sweet (and busy) PA job for a certain company under Turner broadcasting. I'm really hoping to capitalize this into something eventually.

Here you go. Spit this out super quick. Qualifying statement: I literally haven't did any art or illustration or anything for the past 4 years, so I am super rusty and too lazy to fix any glaring ugly mistakes, especially the coloring.

And I assume the original art was cross-eyed? I tried to make her cross-eyed if her eyes seem funny.

Wow! For somebody who hasn't done art for four years, you're still really good at it! Those hands especially are on a level I often aspire to be on one day. And I like what you're doing with the lighting there. Really great stuff all-around.
As for if the original image was cross-eyed; that wasn't what I was going for initially, but now, I don't even know ha.

Giving - In high school there was this girl that was apparently really into me. I didn't know until one of her friends told me one day. She (and sometimes her friend) would follow me around/pop up seemingly out of nowhere trying extra hard to convince me to go out with her. I'll be honest, this girl was not my type. She was short, she looked like someone's aunt and, apparently, there was a crazy rumor around the school that her personality is so bad she drove one of her previous boyfriends to suicide. All I'll say is, I've seen her date other guys after she stopped bothering me and she was definitely really verbally abusive to all of them. Plus the guy who died's sister ended up going to our high school and she's confirming the whole thing too. So, yeah... It was less a rejection and more me avoiding the fuck out of her and, from what I can tell, dodging a bullet.

Receiving - Again, high school. The same year, in fact. There was this really cute upperclassman Chinese-American girl I was super into. I got really close with her, we would hang out together before and after classes sometimes. I told her how much I liked her and if she was interested in dating and she said, "Okay." In her last semester, we ended up having a class together and it was a blast. At some point nearing the end of that semester, I popped her the big "Wanna be boyfriend and girlfriend" question after class? She told me that she really likes me but it'll be weird with her going off to college while I'm still here finishing high school. On top of that, she really wanted to prioritize college over dating. So she suggested that we just be friends. Let me tell you, those last couple of weeks when she wasn't there stung hard.

Yes, that's entirely digital. A long time ago I would do lineart in physical media with pencil and pen, then scan it into the computer for color. But after I started getting good with my graphics tablet I transitioned to working 100% in Photoshop. I've been letting myself get bogged down too much with perfectionism lately and it's absolutely crippled my workflow, so I wanted to do something quick, fun and with no reference images save your drawing in the OP (and the gamefaqs logo, of course).

That's pretty much how I do it. I draw it out on paper, scan it to my computer, and then ink and color it. It's only now I'm somewhat trying to practice doing some stuff entirely digital. It's really reassuring to see how that's working out for you because you're super good!
