yeah, the indonesian scene (among other south east asian nations) has been seeing a lot of growth lately. the impact of translated clips certainly is a factor and while i can't say i'm that much of a fan of them, i am glad to see it having this level of international appeal

also, i haven't been a fan of ai-chan for years so i'm definitely not the best person to ask, but last i checked, her original va went public as her own, separate channel and... yeah, I dunno.

I think she must be back with the role now though since the clones got ejected into their own channel instead called lovepii iirc

as for how the fanbase has adapted to this... I mean, inevitably poorly, but pretty good all things considered. Over in china, the drama lead to her bilibili channel (with like a million followers) falling enough that several other people passed it (Kagura Nana, Kano (the utaite), and Shirakami Fubuki in Hololive)... Recently I think she rebounded though and has passed at least one of them again, and I don't think much ever really changed on the youtube side besides slowly losing viewers. the Chinese Kizuna has become pretty popular too. But yeah i'm not too big on talking about people like ai-chan because the only real reason she still gets talked about is because she was relevant. There's a lot of other talent out there in ever nook and cranny of the scene equally worth mentioning.

it just crossed my mind that i could make this. i follow easily hundreds (and know of thousands) of vtubers now so maybe this is a good way to share them now that i can't just dump them in certain ranking topics

i'd do a good opening post or poll except there is kind of too much to cover and i don't really know where to start (frankly i want the scope of this topic to be as wide as possible since there's a lot of stuff I personally watch that probably only I know about and i don't want to just exclude them right off the bat), so if anyone has any questions or anything to just talk about in general just feel free to post about it here maybe

personally, i've been adding various music videos and covers to board game online recently. unfortunately, they recently changed the requirements to 10k views, which has kind of hurt since there's a lot of pretty great stuff I can't add now

oh yeah also i'll probably dump a bunch of streams i watch once or twice per day probably (if i remember)

incidentally, RftM would place in a spot somewhere between B2 and TtDS, whereas I'd probably only give Endeavour and Confronting Myself high 6es at best. I like every song here a lot and I wish this set didn't exist. On the other hand, it's nice Endeavour and Confronting Myself (and even rftm) aren't here because even though it makes my decision here very frustrating, if they were, I feel safe saying none of these would have any realistic chance at winning here.

kind of on me to play games like 100% orange juice, a purely mouse-based game, regularly without a mouse admittedly, but scrolling on touchpads is genuine hell and it would be infinitely better to just map it to keys ugh

Yes, it's not in here, but I actually would be giving Desert points if it was Desert-Duo. Much as i want to be fair on the current form of Desert still maybe being okay in its own right, fact is I get very tired of those vocals, and this is a drawback unique to this specific version. Having to hear 5 minutes of repetitive gibberish in a song that is meant to be taken seriously and deliberately has other versions that don't have that is kind of grating. It'd be like having to appreciate the poppo version of Ultimate Weapon Girl purely unironically. Anyway having said that, the context here really didn't help it out but if you remember my previous scores, 6.2 actually ISN'T bad, this just happens to be a really consistent set here (and it is unfortunate they've all already lost, B is noticeably very good). Oh yeah, speaking of, you may be surprised by one of the scores here. The "high" 6.8 on Sky of Twilight. Last year I was definitely a lot more negative on it than I am this time, like some parts really rubbed me the wrong way and by now they... don't, actually (probably partially thanks to the difference in context allowing it to not really have to compete with any major gust or kanako ito songs i like way way way way way more than it). It just happens to be in maybe not really the best place to actually demonstrate that lol. Still though, it's like... at the point that I actually wouldn't even mind if it won this wildcard vote.

bazooka's not overly deep but pretty fun. the cast's not that balanced but i still like the way they were implemented. some of them manage to fully play like horizontal shmup characters and it's not (too) broken

i finally got around to revisiting dodonpachi soundtracks the other day. it's kind of odd viewing flotage 3b now as a result. i mean, you know, i'd be tempted to say that the guitar solo from like 1:35 in is about the only part really carrying it and it also sort of overshadows the rest, except that's also the only part unique to 3-B specifically so like... i don't really know how i should feel about it knowing that it's effectively the only part that is actually '3-B'

either way it's a straightforward decision here

Flightless has a literal handful at best of good things in it, and virtually everything else in it (which is to say, about 90% of the song at a bare minimum) is extremely just... so far below any standards for vgmc that it automatically has to land at the bottom (insert joke about it being on land in the first place). Which is frustrating in a sense because don't really like having blooming villain over three other songs here. Boy am I glad none of these songs made it past round 1, and I hope I don't see them again.

As a side note, exec z feels like what blooming villain should be.
