...Right, this was probably Unlisted at the time you linked it here & then published later, causing the date to shift. I think that's how YouTube displays dates, just took me a while to remember.

The song feels significantly more artificial than any other track tonight (and I'm not sure how far back I'd have to go to find one this synthetic), but it's not really in a way that I find appealing... I wouldn't say that I want to drop it below 40 points, but I'm bouncing fairly hard off of this track.

incidentally, i realised today i had totally wasted my time making it public since it has a music video as of 10 days ago (and also got topic uploads two weeks ago)

late response but yeah i positioned lucid hallucination in between them to break those songs up a little since they're a bit too similar compositionally. miyo does lean into the same general tropes fairly often, i just think they're good ones.

The first song in a while that has felt too short... I'm really into her voice and the vibes this song is giving out, but two minutes doesn't feel like enough time for me to get fully entranced. Like I start getting lost in the music and... then we hit a brick wall of silence before I'm anywhere near ready for the song to end.

yeah honestly this theme from the witch of ihanashi was my gateway into miyo's music. i was checking on it in the hopes of a longer full version having released, sadly this was the full song, and i was hesitant to include it because i didn't consider it particularly "complete", glad i did though since you helped remind me that despite that, i did still like it a lot. still wish there had been a longer version though, i would've nominated it for vgmc this year if there was. maybe some year i'll pick one of her other ones she sang herself, like that fujimi no bara song, i think it's pretty neat that someone with a voice like hers can make such charming songs

ken namba is good at what he does really, makes pretty good idol-like songs for vtubers that they'll likely want to use for potential "one-man live" type concerts or even just big milestone karaoke streams, so understandably ones with brighter lyrics are the norm. It's the versatility of his compositions that carries them for the most part. really his whole shtick really is providing vocal training and experience for indie vtubers, and it's pretty clear it pays off pretty well

it's about a point where somebody breaks up with them btw. honestly probably one of the most overtly "probably your thing" kind of songs in terms of lyrics, though the way it's done through a sort of rap may be hit or miss

(this guy's the surviving member of a 2 person virtual band (the other one died in a fishing accident) and changed quite a lot since then while trying to find himself, handle depression etc. this video really feels like a testament to how he has lived, it is overwhelming yet beautifully powerful. also he's a pretty good trance composer ngl)

This song isn't really on that level, but it's fun and reminiscent of a song that I love, so I think it's close to the 70 point tier. I'm leading towards "slightly below it", but could imagine the score going up a bit in the future.

As for the song itself, it's also fairly nice. It's cute enough that I feel comfortable saying that I like it, but it doesn't do too much to stand out musically or lyrically from other cute vtuber songs. Which works since that's a genre I like.

nice, this ended up higher than i really should've expected it to. I made sure to include it since i'd picked nemukawa yumena's You & Me song previously (which 7mai also did)... forgetting it was almost the lowest rated song from my set then...

re: cut part of post, you're welcome to just skip through the playlist of yuru songs, i largely just picked the whole thing since all of them are fairly short, were all songs from within the prior year or so, and i couldn't decide on one that really stood out enough even though i like them

There are a lot of singers on this track, but unfortunately I don't think there are any real standout performances. There are so many singers that each person's sections are incredibly brief and I find it impossible to distinguish their voices during the chorus. I suppose Dinger was probably the best, followed by those immediately following him: I could imagine the deeper voiced singers having an interesting song and I'm moderately curious about the higher-pitched singer (the second performer after Dinger), but not so curious that I feel I need to try tracking down any of their other work.

Ultimately, it's a fine song and I guess it's a decent enough showcase for a variety of people, but perhaps a bit forgettable as no one gets a chance to really stand out.

oh i guess it wasn't very clear from the video, the singer you were describing wasn't dinger, it was this guy https://www.youtube.com/@mokiMusic0000 (dinger was just the plush thing in his hand on the illustration). From my understanding VocaDuo was a collab event where vocalists and vocaloid song composers collabed, and the VocaDuo song was just a bigger collab project where a lot of the entrants for it came together basically for a song that dinger also happened to compose (along with someone called kenpi who i forgot to note on the post)

forgot to post in here after i watched it the other day

The arrangements were hit or miss, the pop inserts sucked ass, the illumination tone was painful when it entered the spotlight, the easter eggs were the main factor to redeem it but they were just too shallow and intrusive to hope to carry it all... though honestly, for the most part, all the voice castings worked exactly as intended to my surprise so it still wasn't as bad as i thought

still a movie that i think is a slight miss at best in every demographic

re:metroid movie i was just having a convo with a friend on the way back that i think the only real way to do a metroid movie well would be for it to be full-fledged r16/18 scifi thriller and i don't see a nintendo-backed production being allowed that freedom

yeah lock number is its own problem in its own right (especially in the current contest form where it is only half the field so there's going to be a lot of... unnatural nom placement movements affecting the nom period well before the end) which is why i advocate putting it at an unrealistic value so as to discourage people from metagaming it specifically

If you hate when popular songs get nommed late, that's worse when locks aren't involved before formerly safe songs can be dropped.

i think i get what you're maybe saying here, you don't like my current idea of what should be treated as "safe" with just 16+ and 32+ songs each day, and that it'd protect only popular (especially penultimate day bandwagoned) songs rather than actual bubble ones? it's a difficult matter to find a good balance for and as mentioned i hadn't given it considerable thought yet... having said that, lock system is honestly even more vulnerable to mainstream songs getting rallies since the criteria for getting in is literally just "first x number of songs to get bandwagon get in" and wanting the entire field to be done that way (again) is just torture to me. as mentioned by others all it actually achieves is setting it so people can be less prepared for the still completely inevitable late rush, giving agency (over last minute bandwagons and over metagaming the bulk of the field at the most critical point) exclusively to those who happen to be free at the time and at the expense of those denied a realistic way to plan around it. sure it wouldn't be as flat out horrible as last year's situation with people being misled that it still wouldn't lock up to mere hours before it all did (also obligatory shoutouts to those who lied about songs they didn't want in being locked in the end rush so nobody would bother i still can't believe that happened, even if i can sympathise with trying to reduce the agency of those like me who were also around during the end from pushing them it was also super scummy in its own right and can absolutely be abused to further screw over those not present too), but i don't think for even a second that it's any more fair than having an actually set end time that everyone is able to plan around in advance

i'm not opposed to the theoretical "lock" system mind you where there are just several periods where the top say 32 songs each day or so get locked in till it's all filled up, it would also help spread out the rush so it's not all just 1 critical point (it'd probably have to be after an early nom period similar to this one though with a break before things can be locked tbh)
