It blows my mind that PR workers for big-name companies continue to post stupid shit like this that's guaranteed to backfire. It's one thing when, like, the developers of "A Hat in Time" acted like jackasses toward people wanting a Switch version. That was a bad look (and turned me off from buying the game, personally), but hey, you can see how a fledgling company would have PR growing pains.

But this is someone from literal Amazon tweeting like a dumbass teenager. WTF? This is right up there with the New York Subway Twitter straight-up announcing that they were getting rid of benches as an anti-homeless measure.

I am by no means a real estate expert, but as a prospective homeowner, I've tried to keep my ear to the ground - especially regarding what my fellow Millennials are up to.

From my experiences and reading, Millennials are not just city-oriented but are inclined toward a surprisingly narrow lineup of US cities (specifically those with vibrant cultural/nightlife scenes and low median ages - no Boomers for them, kthx). While the mid-2000s/early 2010s crowd was all about the Pacific Northwest and California, this "cohort" of homebuyers is riding HARD for the South and Colorado. This has resulted in a handful of cities getting absolutely bum-rushed by young professionals. Charlotte, Nashville and Denver are some of the biggest examples, and Tampa seems to be emerging as the city du jour.

At the blistering rate these Millennial Mecca cities are exploding, though, I think we're reaching that breaking point where homebuyers have to accept that they're priced out of the in crowd and must set their sights on less "cool" targets. That's exactly what I would bank on, personally. I think the folks who wait until the market cools off a little in the fall/winter and buy a home in a less-hyped but promising city like Huntsville, Kansas City, Knoxville or El Paso will be glad they did.

This is what I'd plan on if I could convince my girlfriend. >_> She's very much in the "hip city or bust" mindset and is especially keen on Denver and Charlotte. But we're not from old money or STEM money, and my SUN dividends can only go so far...!

I actually like it when the site rakes spez over the coals like this. Dude is a total taint-licker who deserves way more hate than he normally gets, and his "tee-hee, what can ya do " approach to harmful content/staff is a key reason why Reddit has become so damaging to society.

That having been said, I agree that some Redditors can come off as comically pompous during situations like this, and the ones continuing to buy LE EPIC REDDIT AWARDS to gild the critical comments are missing the point entirely. That's like deciding to protest employee treatment at Walmart by buying your protest sign supplies from their craft department.

There was a guy like this at a previous job of mine. He also liked to be a brown-noser on Slack. He'd be a cheerleader about every corporate change (including the ones that were a net negative for the employees... which happened often) and would try to police conversations that weren't fully on topic.

He was eventually laid off. I wouldn't say I was glad about it, because he really wasn't a bad dude on the whole. But damn, it's bitterly ironic to simp THAT hard for your company and still get laid off.

I'm really curious to see what happens with the price of this after 03/31. On one hand, they printed an absolute fuckton of copies - almost every Walmart I've been to since release has had stacks of copies on the shelf floor, since they can't fit them all in the main display. I've never seen anything like it. Also, you just know a ton of resellers are going to flood the market immediately after 03/31 and keep supply above demand in the short term.

This makes me think that Mario 3D All-Stars will be like the SNES Classic, where Nintendo printed so many that they weren't viable for resale until a couple years later. The key difference, though, is that Switch owners are a different breed. They're far more willing to throw crazy money at current-gen software than previous generations. Ultra Street Fighter II regularly sells for $60+ used and $80+ sealed, despite being a bare-bones budget release with a reasonably large print run. And that's just one example.

I do think Nintendo will do this "limited release" tactic regularly now, since it was obviously a big success for them and got people talking. That's bad for gamers, but as Nintendo customers, I guess we're used to that by now... >_>

Topic30s is objectively the age where people are the worst
TheCodeisBosco
03/19/21 2:39:36 AM
#18
As someone going through the second half of their twenties, I've treasured my 30s friends, because the 25-30 crowd is insufferable for the most part. I've always considered myself to be an extrovert, but these years have made me seriously reconsider that lifestyle. The majority of people in this age demo tend to fall into three categories:

1) The people who, to paraphrase Queen, "Want it all - and want it NOW". They want their marriage, kids and picket fences, damn it, and they want them yesterday. While ambition is fine and good, people in this group tend to lose their ability to just relax and enjoy the little things, and are no fun to hang around as a result.

2) The people who decided to go off the deep end as soon as they had a taste of adulthood. If you try to hang with them, they'll want to hop across every bar in a 5-mile radius and indulge in their drug(s) of choice all along the way. Pass.

3) The people who decided to become shut-ins after their teen/college years and consider Netflix their main hobby. Looking at the first two groups, can ya blame them?

From personal experience, it seems like 32-33 is the sweet spot where people start acting fuckin' normal again. So I can't agree with the thread premise here, but hey - everyone's experiences are different.

Trump attracted a lot of people who make up their reality as they go. And sure enough, they're willing to toss him in the bin if he interferes with their version of reality too much. Unfortunately, 2024's Republican nominee hopefuls are undoubtedly taking notes and will be all too willing to enable these people once again.

I think I'm finally going to part with my remaining 100 AMC tomorrow if the price holds up reasonably close to this. I held because I expected a lot of younger and/or "chaotic good" folks to yeet their stimulus checks into the WSB stocks, and I feel like that effect is largely under way at this point.

I was down nearly a grand at one point with AMC, so it'll feel good to come off this roller coaster with my money back and $500-$600 on top of that. Though I don't blame anyone for holding it as a recovery stock, and the temptation really is there for me to do that.

Probably going to move this money into more WING, FUBO, SUN and a safe option like PEP or CPB.
