marineford was a huge emotional climax filled with already established characters doing important stuff. the post-timeskip arcs haven't had really great stories and mostly pretty weak villains. the pacing in marineford is also much better. look at this. this is all of the major post-timeskip arcs, not just the extremely long ones. (they're all still longer than marineford)

marineford - 30 chapters
fishman island - 50 chapters
punk hazard - 36 chapters
dressrosa - 101 chapters
whole cake island - 77 chapters

every post-timeskip arc besides punk hazard has just felt too long.

the girl who leapt through time was really good but I don't remember much about it anymore. I remember it was really popular on board 8 when I first got into anime.

I thought one of the shogi parts of S2 was really good actually, even though in general I haven't liked those parts much. (Whatever the match between the two old guys was with the whole "burnt field" metaphor. Despite being two side characters I previously couldn't have cared less about, that might honestly be my favorite part of the series)

The last half of the season is pretty bad but I promise S2 is fantastic.

I actually finished S2 and forgot to post about it. I thought it was about the same quality as S1 overall. not as much time spent actually playing shogi but still too much focus on the shogi storylines and characters. great otherwise.

actually been watching some spring stuff

steins;gate 0 is interesting and seems like a great adaptation. don't have too much to say since I've played the VN.

megalo box is really good. love the style and art.

FMP S4 is good. I don't remember the series super well but this feels more serious than anything else. I like the direction it's going and it feels simple enough that I can follow it.

hinamatsuri is alright but not very funny having watched 2 episodes. I was hoping it would be a heartwarming style series but it's not that either. I'm putting this in the "maybe I'll try this again once it finishes" pile with tada-kun.

I feel like I enjoy aria for different reasons than everyone else who likes it. I agree that the characters are great but the setting especially is fucking fantastic, maybe the best in anime period. I honestly don't quite get the "relaxing" element everyone talks about because basically any anime that is good ultimately relaxes me. that's probably why I generally don't care for slice of life.

this isn't confirmed at all but there really isn't any indication one way or the other. madhouse seems pretty random with announcing sequels to their anime. there wasn't really any expectation for season 2 or 3 either iirc, it was just one day "we are making more hajime no ippo." this could just happen again for all we know.
