I hate those enemies that spam grenades, but I find rifles + mortars + smoke grenades helps a lot. The latter are useful against those jumping laser-shooters, too, since they lag them enough to be rifle (etc.) fodder most of the time. Fast grenadiers like UMP45 are best, but you can use M1911's slow grenade at times, too.

Anyway, finally beat Chapter 2, mostly to see if there were any token-giving missions left, but it doesn't seem like it...unless they're on some missable split paths or something. Should go try those tomorrow.

I should start writing down some general tips before this topic purges. Any good ones I'm missing?

+ you suck at fighting until you get training from Bernard
+ learning to read is only possible by Uzhitz scribe (may void certain achievement/s)
+ you can get free goodies at battlesites
+ certain missions fail/glitch during Talmberg siege
+ herbalism + Strength increase perk
+ free sleepsave locations for Hardcore mode
+ maybe start From the Ashes earlier than normal + build Tavern to have high daily income
+ buy a great horse ASAP + take the perk that gives it higher inventory space for lower speed
+ info about stealth killing and making it easier
+ maybe get the dog early if you're having trouble with fights?

I was in Pribyslavitz and doing the judgment stuff, when Raspberry's old lady tried to get him to come home. I paid her dowry (1K) to get her to leave, then pickpocketed it back when she wasn't looking. My other 214K would've been lonely without that 1K, so I decided to keep the family together.

Gonna start grinding for that drunk gun by doing that Nyto boss map. Takes about twice as long as the Scarecrow one, though, so that sucks.

Mostly just been cataloging equipment for the past few days. Already got the weapons done, at least the ones I had saved in my shared chest and some shop vendors. Should hopefully be able to start a hardcore playthrough when all that's done, although I suspect I'll be forgetting something else...maybe treasure map locations.

I think I have most of the unique equpment in the game so far, at least. Things like the Burial Shroud from the Sasau church, Pavel of Kolin's chaperon you can find in the wilderness, etc. Hording all this stuff definitely has its upsides.

Yeah, I'm not expecting to get out lightly, either. I had 1100+ cubes going into the Polaris stuff, and wound up wasting 250 just to get Gascogne. Maybe RNGesus will be kind this time, though.

Been reading up on bludgeons and it seems you can apparently kill people with them accidentally. I thought they were going to give pleasant KOs... Maybe I'd have to just do fisticuffs against unarmored opponents to avoid those situations.

I always thought enemies who spawn in road ambushes despawn quickly, but after springing the trap, I followed one near Rovna all the way north to the map's edge. Guess they need to be a certain distance away before the game gives up on 'em. Actually, it reminds me of the time I was north of Sasau, waiting for a battle to end. A bunch of Cumans won, so I stealthfully followed 'em and slit all their throats. Usually if you ignore the exiting brigands, most will despawn and one stays behind for some reason...I wonder what the reason for that is.

Damn, I killed another "friendly" mercenary with a masterstroke. Like, instantly. These might be too OP for play fighting. Interestingly, if you pay 50 groschen to do the wager, and the merc dies, that money mysteriously disappears from his corpse.

I still need the drunk and Python, too. Neither map I've seen so far looks very fun to grind on, though.

BTW, it says one of the packages for march is a ring + 500 tokens + something apx. 500 gems. That might actually be worth getting.

Gascogne definitely wasn't a 2% drop. Took too much time, and too many resources, to get into the base.

If you only get three checks per M870 farm on that level, I wonder why the route wastes time resupplying? The way I do does three checks in only seven moves, albeit with some rations thrown away when your restart.

Grinding Python on 1-9 seemed like a chore, so I'm gonna go for the devil shotty. On its first appearance, if you go down the left-hand side of the map, you fight five battles and the last three all have a drop chance.

Not sure why a poaching opportunity would be glitchy, but it is. I don't remember seeing anything in the Skalitz ruins, though. Might have to swing by later and see if anything's changed.

Saw something I've never seen before: a foe encounter when fast travelling, that only ended up being a wayfarer with a low opinion of me. This was west of the Inn in the Glade, so someone there might've hated me at some point. (Remember when I got caught pickpocketing and chased a guy five miles before murdering him? Good times.)

Got Mk12 as a random drop from Scarecrow, which was a nice little prize. Also got a dupe of some other limited one (previous monthly reward?), but I dunno if it's even levelled up enough to use for a dummy link. Haven't attempted to grind seriously yet, but I do want to get 1-2 Pythons by the time the event ends. The only other HG I have dupes of is Contender, I think.

I'll have to look if I even have all the treasure maps. I buy 'em whenever they show up, and sometimes you find roadside peddlers pawning them, so I get those, too. (Of course, I steal back the money I paid because that's how Henry rolls.) Sometimes you can get duplicates, and sometimes you can find maps just sitting around in plain sight. There was one in the abbot's chambers at the monastery, one in a mill loft (area they kept a captive Cuman), one atop the windmill (mill that gets razed in DLC, I think), etc.

Interesting to know those treasures are all in the base game, though. I thought the ancient map stuff was DLC.

Just roaming with Mutt in seek mode is kinda fun. Been finding tons of random stuff, including graves filled with loot. I've no doubt they're part of some treasure hunt, but I haven't been bothering with those yet. Gonna need to make a map of that, though.

Pic dump time! Mutt didn't find this, but it looked so weird -- a mossy hill with a shamanistic totem atop it -- I didn't need his help. Not sure if this is part of a treasure quest, but it was a gigantic hole with a bunch of human bones in it, plus a loot bag.


Next, a mercenary's camp by a stream, north of Rovna. Months ago, when I first started playing and Henry didn't know his ass from a doorknob, I thought the merc here was a Cuman, so I ran away. Finally went back and did his battle challenge, thinking it'd be the same as the others. However, I did a masterstroke and he ended up dying, lol. I wonder if he'll respawn in the future. I threw his body in the nearby stream for good measure, a guilty pleasure I developed after MGS3. Sorry not sorry.


This is just an exposed castle foundation in the woods around Pribyslavitz. I looked around, including in the walls, but there wasn't any treasure here...just a ladder. I wonder if it's part of some quest I missed or was cut. It reminds me of one of the ancient treasure map locations (where you find Warhorse stuff) out past Rattay, so I was hopeful...but after searching again, it was a whole lotta nothin'.


Last month, I think, I mentioned finding a body I couldn't inspect and assumed it was part of some quest. Well, I found that same body there (been there for 100+ days, haha) and looked around a bit. Mutt actually started barking, so I searched in earnest and found money stashed in the dead tree trunk. Guess my dog has a head for finances.

If you've already unlocked Chapter 2, then there's no need to unlock it again.

Yeah, I just did the first mission in chapter two. There was a point yesterday where it showed the icon was locked, but I guess it didn't matter.

I feel like there should be an Executioner's Axe in this game. When you think about it, that's probably a more medieval weapon than a perfectly crafted 2H longsword.

I wish axes got a little more attention in the game. Think about how many different sword types there are...then think about the small number of axes, most of which are hot garbage. Seems like a missed opportunity. In fact, I don't think there are any unique/hard-to-find axes in the entire game! Maybe a sequel will let you dual wield hatchets like a true medieval warrior.

By the way, for those who still haven't found a boss to fight for the daily crates, there's a battle with Scarecrow about halfway through the first chapter. When you're given a certain choice -- fight all enemies -or- walk 4 spaces to capture enemy control post -- do the latter. The map is incredibly easy (Scarecrow has 8000 power) and you only have to walk four spaces away, so you can map out the route and let the automatic movement stuff take care of the rest. Don't worry about the red helipad nearby spawning enemies and snatching HQ from you...that doesn't happen, at least if you finish as quickly as possible.

Yeah, Soppo is a bit more interesting than some of the other, dour characters.

I saw that you can get AA-12 as a supply box drop, and M870 as a limited drop, which is nice. Hopefully I haven't blown all my luck on the first day.

I know it's the commander's story -- it's just a waste of resources, like so many other aspects of the game. GF just doesn't seem to value players' time that well. Case in point: instead of being able to grind an easy map ten times to get supply crates, now only bosses drop them. I've been playing for four hours and still haven't fought a boss! That could be because of the routes I've taken, sure, but things like this are just made to screw with players.

Picking herbs for the strength increases is what I did early on, but that was mostly a nice bonus to making money. Now that I'd just loot battlesites, I shudder to think at how low my strength would be for the next playthrough (granted, it'll be a no-kill one, but still).

The beginning is a little boring, sure. It especially doesn't help that Henry sucks and can't even leave Skalitz to do fun exploration. There'll be time for that ahead, at least.
