And Sam L Jackson looked absolutely incredible!Larson did some interviews in which she supposedly came off somewhat unlikable or sarcastic, and the first leaked image of her in costume was unflattering to say the least. The character was also something of a Mary Sue in the comics once she dropped the Ms. Marvel title to take the Captain Marvel title. All of these things combined to make neckbeards lose their goddamn minds and treat Brie Larson like she was Satan incarnate. If someone were to read War and Peace for instance, they would need to know at least a little bit about the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and Russian history to get the most out of it. I'm on a video game website right now, so I'm certainly not against consuming entertainment (and I spent several hours last night playing a Dragon Quest game) . However, when all you consume in your free time is commercial entertainment, you tend to have a narrower understanding of the world than if you were to, say, learn history, read classic literature, or learn something about the hard sciences. Think about it this way. One day we are all going to die. Isn't it better to die having engaged in some thrilling entertainment, while also engaging in life long self education and developing some sort of impressive skill along the way? I think that is better than solely dedicating one's free time to entertainment.
