Topic | Why do people hate Gen Z'ers? |
Sansoldier 02/16/21 7:42:09 PM #7 | Probably media. There's not much reason to hate them, and they're starting to do some great things. --- |
Topic | What is the highest math class you ever got up to? |
Sansoldier 02/16/21 4:00:04 PM #76 | Linear Algebra / Differential equations. I wish it was easier to retain some of the knowledge. I forgot nearly all of it. --- |
Topic | People who work 9-5 M-F, rank the days of the week from favorite to least fav |
Sansoldier 02/13/21 7:28:53 PM #18 | Sunday Saturday Friday Monday Thursday Wednesday Tuesday Monday is so high because you're refreshed for the week and things usually start a bit slower. Tuesday and Wednesday are when things really pick up. Thursday, either things settle down, or that's when you need to get most of the important things finished for the week. Friday has the finishing touches for the week. I like occasionally working on Sunday (work from home) since it lets me think about the rest of the week. No one's usually on, so I can work at a slightly slower pace. On Saturday, I usually feel like doing other things and won't focus. --- |
Topic | creation of unit to target crimes against asians is triggering some people |
Sansoldier 02/09/21 10:56:07 PM #27 | I guess it depends on the place. No black people I knew disliked Asians, and I had good friendships with quite a few as well. How do you stop seemingly random acts of violence like this? Seems like stupid kids doing this, but I'm not sure if it's some weird cultural shift. --- |
Topic | Does learning about black history and slavery make you feel bad for being white? |
Sansoldier 02/07/21 6:05:47 PM #74 | Not white, but I wish that history classes actually taught black history when I was in school. They never really went into much at all, making me feel like I received a distorted view of the past. --- |
Topic | Elizabeth Warren tweets in support of hedge funds |
Sansoldier 01/31/21 12:31:09 AM #85 | This just shows how much of a joke/game the stock market is. They're just playing the game. I wish we could just get rid of these manipulative practices and invest in companies without gaming the system ruining everything. --- |
Topic | Target won't sell Thai coconut milk after reports of forced monkey labor |
Sansoldier 01/27/21 12:28:46 AM #27 | What is the out here? Free the monkeys, or is there a more humane way they can be treated? --- |
Topic | if the US doesnt implement Uiniversal Basic Income by the *end of the pandemic, |
Sansoldier 01/24/21 9:42:17 PM #29 | Doesn't UBI only work if you remove the bureaucracy from other aid services? I'd like for some sort of implementation, but the well has already been poisoned enough that I don't expect it for a long time if ever. --- |
Topic | How racist is this clip from a Japanese movie? |
Sansoldier 01/24/21 9:35:41 PM #16 | First half was just really insensitive. 2nd half is when you can say it goes into racist territory. Even so, I don't think it goes much past racist stereotypes that old cartoons used to do - it's missing the maliciousness. --- |
Topic | Do you think there is a correlation between racist beliefs and low intelegnce? |
Sansoldier 01/21/21 12:17:42 PM #38 | No, I consider it a defect in education, then when those beliefs are challenged (if at all), they double down or cherry pick. I think that people will naturally have a fear towards the unknown unless taught. Negative first impressions are also tough to remove. --- |
Topic | How long have you had your current cell phone? |
Sansoldier 01/19/21 11:13:29 PM #3 | Since April 2018, almost 3 years. Not really in need of a new one. --- |
Topic | Reddit is great if you don't like discussion. |
Sansoldier 01/18/21 1:18:45 PM #56 | I like reddit, but I don't really visit too many gargantuan subreddits. Conversation is limited, it's like everyone provides their 2 cents to the opening post with a few replies here and there. It's built to be a hivemind / echo chamber, which is fine for fan subreddits. I really like GameFAQs tagging users, and both blocking features are pretty nice (though I don't use them). Every place has its flaws. I don't have a ton of experience with some of these, but these are my impressions. Reddit - Lack of discussion, echo chamber / hivemind could lead to witch hunts. However, you tend to have many mini-discussions about incredibly specific topics. It's great for news, updates from "important" people, and posting content. Disqus, Youtube, etc. comments fit here as well. Twitter - Is like an extreme version of reddit. It's chaos, but you can pick and choose people to become your personalized "news feed." Posts can be topical, stream of consciousness, and news. Replies are essentially useless / even more of a hivemind than reddit. Discord - Discussions are transient, and there's a limit to the number of people that can participate. Can't really have multiple discussions going on concerning the same topic. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to archive good posts and have some organization through channels. Forums - Threads tend to die within a few days for the popular ones, but you can get some good discussion depending on activity. Trolls are able to derail discussion much more easily. The better (or more controversial) threads tend to stay alive. Forums (megathreads) - This one feels like a combination of reddit and forums. People provide their opinions with a bit of discussion here and there. It's really tough to continue a single discussion, quoting others from pages back. If it is a megathread concerning an ongoing event or series, it's easy to be left behind when you're not "caught up." --- |
Topic | $1000 a week or the Microwave of Dreams? |
Sansoldier 01/17/21 9:42:41 PM #22 | Microwave. I'll already be at minimum saving a few hundred bucks from top tier quality food. No time wasted preparing meals. Some of the best food takes days to prepare. Instantly made food for family (and visitors?). Think of how much one will need to pay the best chef in the world, but many times better than that. --- |
Topic | Parents are sad that their kids are gaming/using social media during pandemic |
Sansoldier 01/17/21 7:06:25 PM #13 | They can restrict how much time he's on those devices, but taking it all away for non-academic reasons doesn't sit right with me. The parents should try doing activities with their child. I also find it somewhat weird to pressure a 14 year old about marriage and stress. They don't think about those kinds of things. --- |
Topic | Being Socially Inept fucking SUCKS. |
Sansoldier 01/15/21 4:52:51 PM #5 | It does. You already know a lot of it is in your head. Try to put yourself in their shoes - Would you enjoy it if a co-worker stopped by and discussed a shared interest for a little bit? It's much more likely that the other person will enjoy or be neutral to the conversation rather than disliking it. Practice always helps, too. People tend to suck at things they don't do often. You have to avoid getting out of that loop of avoiding things you're bad at or it won't get better. --- |
Topic | Thoughts on representation in games? |
Sansoldier 01/15/21 4:37:11 PM #83 | If their ethnicity and gender don't matter to the story, then it's whatever. They can make whatever characters they want, though diversity would be nice if they have the time. For those where it does, I would like it if more diverse writers and developers are given a chance to craft more realistic characters. It's not surprising if these writers fail to craft these kinds of diverse characters correctly without experience. --- |
Topic | How do you explain black Trump supporters? |
Sansoldier 01/14/21 9:24:20 AM #13
Topic | Why should people be obligated to pay back debts? |
Sansoldier 01/11/21 10:24:51 PM #15 | If you're receiving money from a friend/acquaintance, it's good to make sure you both know if you will pay it back and a general timeframe so you both know what you're getting into. --- |
Topic | People need to stop being so petty towards "picky eaters" |
Sansoldier 01/01/21 10:37:35 AM #50 | I know more people who are picky eaters than not. I'm not sure what makes them dislike one type of food and like an extremely similar food if not pickiness (assuming no acid reflux, allergies, or eating disorders). --- |
Topic | Malwarebytes is fucking annoying now |
Sansoldier 12/28/20 2:32:28 PM #4 | I uninstalled mine a year ago and switched over to ESET. No issues here and I barely notice it. --- |
Topic | Without looking it up, what is a Portmanteau? |
Sansoldier 12/27/20 10:52:18 PM #3 | I remembered it as some sort of play on words. Must've been mistaken since I don't see the option there. --- |
Topic | 18 y/o Black Kid has NO REGRETS on DESTROYING a BLONDE Girl's LIFE!! |
Sansoldier 12/27/20 9:02:05 PM #23 | It seems like that whole area/school was a toxic environment. She should've had a proper callout back when she said it than "incubating" it for years. 3-4 years later, she clearly changed from what I read and the initial incident was from ignorance/impulse from being young. --- |
Topic | Late Stage Capitalism: Company email to employees about $650 bonus - was a test |
Sansoldier 12/24/20 6:12:16 PM #54 | The topic it used was pretty insensitive, but for a phishing test, I think this was ok. They add misspellings and other suspicious insertions within the e-mail. Not to mention, I doubt bonuses are sent out this way at their company. --- |
Topic | Saying you've worked 80 hour weeks since you turned 17 isnt a flex, it's sad |
Sansoldier 12/18/20 4:08:05 PM #11 | I'm wiped just from doing a few months of 45-50 hours when my usual is 40. I don't know how other people do it. --- |
Topic | What's the deal with pretentious anime fans? |
Sansoldier 12/18/20 1:58:04 PM #10 | Because they like them. Monster was one of my favorites back around 2010. --- |
Topic | early memes were so trash man wtf were we thinking |
Sansoldier 12/12/20 9:46:33 PM #61 | Memes aren't really much different tbh... People were new to things such as video edits and people got used to them. --- |
Topic | Reminder: as long as you have a smartphone, the government knows where you are. |
Sansoldier 12/03/20 7:05:35 PM #7 | Eh, whatever. I guess they'd count me as traveling even though all I did was drop food off to friends/family? --- |
Topic | Have you ever seen a person that is a gamer but also very sporty? |
Sansoldier 11/16/20 8:22:27 AM #22 | Yes, competitive people will likely play sports, video games, work out, etc. There's overlap. --- |
Topic | Joe Biden says Trump's BORDER WALL will be ELIMINATED!! Do you agree?? |
Sansoldier 11/12/20 7:29:40 PM #23 | Make it a landmark/tourist attraction so we can actually make some money off this dumb decision. --- |
Topic | POP QUIZ: Without looking, what is the state capital of Texas? |
Sansoldier 11/11/20 4:30:23 PM #11
Topic | How do you feel about "Play sports outside! Sports games suck!" |
Sansoldier 11/01/20 2:50:51 PM #19 | Older sports games were pretty fun. Once they started going too much into sim territory is when they started getting annoying. Playing outside is more fun, but just like with games, it's not as fun with large skill disparities. --- |
Topic | A dark deadly winter ahead claims soon to be president elect Joseph Biden |
Sansoldier 10/25/20 7:29:07 PM #3 | In-between. It'll be bad, but we'll be able to weather through it. --- |
Topic | Man if Biden wins, I give everyone ITT a $100 stimulus |
Sansoldier 10/24/20 8:41:26 AM #87
Topic | If Biden becomes president in 2020, I'll give everyone who posts here $50 |
Sansoldier 10/23/20 11:31:11 PM #99
Topic | Compared to a decade ago, do you recreationally read more or less books a year? |
Sansoldier 10/17/20 11:17:56 PM #14 | I need to get into reading more literature. I end up reading way too many webnovels and the like. At least an hour a day. --- |
Topic | Do you agree with this photo of influential women? |
Sansoldier 10/17/20 9:49:13 AM #15
Topic | ResetEra is cancelling Cyberpunk/CDPR |
Sansoldier 10/16/20 7:38:10 PM #96 | Criticizing a company for their behavior is understandable. Going to the next level and villainizing them is a gross overreaction. --- |
Topic | Trails in the Sky had damn good writing |
Sansoldier 10/13/20 12:04:04 AM #443 | Just finished CSIII with the difficulty mod. The last boss felt just about unfair, but was able to pull through eventually. I've now played the entire series up to CSIV and III did not disappoint at all. I could see why people rated it so highly. The dialogue did feel off at times, but at other times, was executed excellently. Playing the crossbell games enhances the experience of future games if you're able to play them. --- |
Topic | What is your current phone bill cost? |
Sansoldier 10/09/20 11:37:44 PM #29 | It's like $15 a month for my service. 8 GB per month. Even with watching youtube, it doesn't go up that much. Only when I use certain apps like twitter will it hemorrhage data. I don't really understand paying much more if you're not going to use a ton of data. --- |
Topic | Google "Florida Man (followed by your birthday)" and post your results |
Sansoldier 09/21/20 9:26:05 PM #17 | Florida man sprays women with roach spray, break out nunchucks over loud music, cops say. Umm... Ok. --- |
Topic | Do white people need to stop writing black and brown characters? |
Sansoldier 09/13/20 10:21:02 PM #16 | No, we just need more diverse authors that can provide their own perspectives. That requires providing both a decent education as well as a chance for these people to pitch their ideas. Of course white people may not be as great at writing a black/brown person at first, but they get better with experience, just like writing a character of the opposite gender. They regularly write people who are not like them. --- |
Topic | The job market is so completely and utterly fucked right now |
Sansoldier 09/11/20 11:47:42 PM #85 | TC, I know that L3Harris has been hiring quite a bit recently. I recently saw a posting requesting for Electrical Engineers, but Computer/Software Engineers may also be available. With defense being such a big thing right now, other defense companies like Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin may be interesting picks. --- |
Topic | Just finished Trails from Zero. What a damn good game *spoilers* |
Sansoldier 09/11/20 11:39:51 PM #7 | Zero was surprisingly amazing, since I heard it was a weak entry in the series. I liked Zero better than Ao for ~50-60% of Ao, since events were much more grounded and personal. All of your questions will be addressed in the sequel. There have been some updates to the translation that make it similar to Geofront. Other than a few misspellings I noticed in the entire game, adjusting controls and worse technical options, it was a smooth transition for me. The translation was only slightly worse than Geofront, but excellent all around. I used this collective improvements mod: https://imgur.com/a/bQOs4kX Geofront will likely not finish this year, so I think it's still worth starting. If they do finish early, I imagine the upgrade will be seamless. --- |
Topic | I'm playing through Cold Steel 3 right now. *progressive spoilers* |
Sansoldier 09/11/20 10:11:23 PM #21 | I am in the middle of CSIII myself, in the beginning of chapter 2. I am using the difficulty mod, so it's incredibly challenging so far. The game has so far referenced quite a few things from the crossbell games, even NPCs. It's great to see how past characters are doing. Also to second what others have said, the 3rd sets the grander tone for the rest of the series and introduces many plot points and a few important characters. --- |
