I can't speak for those in a relationship but knowing that a girl is interested in you, particularly if you feel that girl is desirable, does wonders for your self-esteem. This is tangible evidence that you are desirable which validates your own self-worth which gives you the confidence to move forward. Like everything else in life, the more you have, the easier it is to obtain more; think compound interest.

This is partially why I dislike the "incel" insult. If you're constantly rejected and see hope in the future, of you're going to reject that entire world.
