its definitely possible to provide everyone with a place to live and having landlords, those two things are not mutually exclusive at all.

Well, the number one priority for any landlord is to make a profit, not necessarily to make sure people without homes have shelter.

Because they can't make bank off of poor people, they simply won't provide them with housing.

You need a place to live, they have one for you to rent. Therefore they provided you housing.

In many of these cases, the housing was already there. They simply bought it and rented it out to people.

"Student debt forgiveness would disproportionately help the rich without necessarily making education more accessible" is exactly what I've been saying actually!

Most of you just don't seem to understand how much student debt is held by grad students from affluent families who go to exclusive private universities. In fact the cost of education hasn't really changed much when you exclude those people:

We already heavily subsidize tuition for lower-income people, and that's a good thing. We don't need to be helping the affluent. A typical college grad is borrowing ~$30k for a 4-year degree which doubles their income. It's an insanely good investment, not a burden.

https://www.businessinsider.com/economic-benefits-of-student-debt-forgiveness-2020-12

But debt cancellation for low-income borrowers as a share of their income is much higher than for wealthier individuals, Laura Beamer, lead researcher at the Jain Family Institute (JFI), told Insider.

Beamer has spent the past year studying inequality in student access to higher education in the US for JFI's Millennial Student Debt Project. Her research found that in 2009, the lowest income zip codes across the country saw their student debt burdens go to 56% of their income; by 2018, it had risen to 94%.

"People who are low-income are going to be benefiting the most, even just looking at their debt-to-income ratios before and after debt cancellation," she said. "Those getting $10,000 in student loan relief, the impact for households as a portion of their income that would be freed up is dramatically greater for lower income households."

The estimated distribution of benefits under the Sanders plan does not appear to be very progressive, but Sanders supporters could make the argument that the benefits that would go to affluent families are a reasonable price to pay for free college for everyone, and may help shore up political support for such a program. They might also emphasize that Sanders has proposed a large
tax increase targeted at higher-income families, and argue that affluent families would more than pay for the free college benefits they receive through higher taxes.

It is important to emphasize that this analysis is only a starting point for considering the potential distributional consequences of making college free. The most significant limitation of this analysis is that it does not consider the likely impacts on enrollment of eliminating tuition and fees.[ii] In other words, these projected numbers assume that all students would still enroll at the same institution, and at the same intensity, when tuition and fees are eliminated. In reality, enrollment would likely increase overall, although it is not obvious among which income groups it would increase the most. College enrollment among low-income students might rise relative to other students, but it also might fall if competition for places at public colleges increases as higher-income students shift from the private to the public sector given the change in price.

the actual important part of that article for anyone who doesnt want to read through it all. Its a good read but it also doesnt support Brosephs argument nearly as well as he thinks it does lmao.

So in other words he just skims through his own sources lmao gotcha

There's never been a shortage of high-paying jobs dude we literally have a labor shortage. Incomes wouldn't have risen as much as they did in the last 10 years if that wasn't the case. And incomes for the college-educated have risen much more than high school graduates.

Plenty of college graduates are underemployed. Also, I shouldn't have to tell you this, but higher pay doesn't matter if you have more debt and living expenses are increasing.

Yes, but as everyone here is aware of (besides you, apparently), sometimes those degrees don't pay off, especially when you graduate into an economic recession and there's a shortage of high-paying jobs.

You would actually know this if you bothered to spend any amount of time in reality.
