Yeah they can sit there and collect exorbitant amounts in rent from tenants and houses that they don't upkeep to the level of which they should and most of the time the house is already paid for anyway people are just lining their pockets and all they do is increase the rent make it make since

if landlords didnt build / own / maintain apartment buildings where would they come from and who would maintain them?

are you against the idea of renting in general? if so, how do you provide housing for people who can't afford or don't want to own?

Landlords don't do any of this. Construction workers, plumbers, electricians, etc., do.

So in other words, the only thing they contribute is their money....that they got from their residents.

Considering we had a bunch of landlords last year talking about how they can't pay for the expenses without their residents' rent, it's pretty safe to say that we do.

Also, I advocate for public housing.

right but you dont know how they got the money to buy the building in the first place. i could have earned every penny of that money by working hard. and then i decided to start my own business by buying property and renting it out.

are you people against landlords also against private ownership of business in general?

I mean, I get the logic but not every landlord is toxic. Like, people buying an already built home just to rent it out for more is bad.

A landlord who pays for construction or something to where the house wasnt even built to sell isnt bad. Thats just owning land and using it to house folks instead of making a mall or something.

You need a place to live, they have one for you to rent. Therefore they provided you housing.

Except they don't.

In many of these cases, the housing was already there. They simply bought it and rented it out to people.

Landlords prevent banks from owning all the properties who would be 100x worse to rent from. Therefore landlords do in fact provide a service to the community.

fair. i agree everyone needs a place to live. but speaking of strawmen, how does that statement of "everyone needs a place to live" contribute to the discussion that landlords provide no value? its definitely possible to provide everyone with a place to live and having landlords, those two things are not mutually exclusive at all.

Well, the number one priority for any landlord is to make a profit, not necessarily to make sure people without homes have shelter.

Because they can't make bank off of poor people, they simply won't provide them with housing.
