This is a Lovecraftian style game it always ends in either defeat or a bitter tasting victory

I would say the three types of endings to expect from a lovecraftian story are (from good to bad)

1. the character(s) are awakened to unnerving new forms of knowledge relating to things beyond human comprehension. their momentary triumph is undercut by the fact that they must return to a 'normal' life while this knowledge remains burning in the back of their mind and they can never do anything about it, but dreading the implications and what those might entail for the future of the human world. (yes this is the best. coincidentally it's also the most common.)

2. the characters are sacrificed in some way to forces beyond their own comprehension. probably the least common type of ending that I can think of, but it does happen from time to time. I wouldn't consider this one to be the worst just because the death of one mortal character is really a drop in the pond on the cosmic scale. (if you consider different characters in this story can have different endings, maria and cata would fall here)

3. the characters are corrupted knowingly or unknowingly, or perhaps have been corrupted all along, and later act in service to the unknowable forces of the unseen universe. hard to list examples since obviously naming them would spoil the ending of any story I name, but I think this is probably the second most common. this is similar to ending 1 but I consider it to be by far the worst, because it shows an active frame of corruption where humans (usually capable 'main character' type humans) are now acting in service of those dark forces, rather than just 'they exist somewhere out there and there's nothing we can do about it.' has worse long term implications for the health and safety of the human world.

coincidentally, the three endings of bloodborne also reflect all of these ending types! it's one of the ways in which you can really identify the lovecraftian influence of that game.

(Not having Childhood's Beginning as best ending type).

Aaron: Weapon isn't in best condition and might break in an aggressive charge so hopefully he can put one of em on lockdown with his new combat approach and skill. Close frontal melee range doesn't seem like the best thing ever for this regardless

Enoch: Might change. Not sure of his loadout but Kidd is pretty banged up and maybe Enoch's charisma may help spur some other combatants by beating in a leading position

Owen: Time for some moth shenanigans. Hopefully it can put the second ground floor one on lockdown

Zephyr: May change. I could see him being useful for either. He has more mobility to get up to the 2nd floor team to help out Leone and shoot from range anywhere. His arrows probably won't pack as much punch on certain spots unless he arrows them in one of the eyes. Support is simple enough. Was iffy having him as only support attacker so shifted to an all out fast rescue operation and put him with everyone so once Leone is safe they can immediately shift to assist (possibly from second floor). Either way it comes down to hopefully getting inspired by Enoch or Torin

Fakeru: She's helped people out who were in tight spots and with her sandals she can quickly get up to them. Kidd also going to help may also synergize with getting knowledge from him about the stone

Jamison: Again I am open to either. Reason I think having him stick closer to Aaron would be better is that the monster may have more means of attacking all around him if he tried to flank it (since it is a huge mass of limbs and stuff all over it). If not though flanking would be good to. Jamison could also help act as a temporary spotter for Aaron until Leone is free and his Amulet may help bolster the defensive line overall until everyone is freed up

Kidd: If he wasn't as banged up lead attacker might work (and could potentially still work if he stood strictly with gun). For rescue Leone I am assuming he will be shooting at it from main floor with this approach because he will not be able to climb up there quick enough if he personally has to go up there. Kidd and Fah going with the same approach may help with the stone thing.

So the mystery of Leone's gender has been solved! Hmm for now...

13. A

I can see the pros of the other choices like everyone being on the same level with wagon for B and possibly getting to that alchemy lab in the lower levels from C...

but there's some weird stuff going on at the upper floors which aren't as easily accessed. We have people up here already and if there are any looming threats its best to catch em now rather than allowing them to get the jump on the group later from above maybe (Leone's ultra stealth could be useful on that front)? That and there may be some hidden loot / other artifacts up here since this seems to be a place where stuff is being hidden.

Dunno the layout of the whole place relative to the first floor but having people up above may also help in attacking enemies on the main floor should they show up (apparently Leone is better with range and I dunno if Enoch has a range weapon).

It seems people went with sending Moth Party to head back to Shell after they are done scanning the place so it might be a bit before they are able to meet up in case stuff happens.

I'm for A or B. The party is relatively equipped for either (but moreso B), especially now that Goetic showed up with the rest of the notes.

A will probably lead to more eldritch goodies and will make more use of the stuff Goetic gathered. Though who knows what they'll run into as they almost got rocked by a surprise attack from two of those fish guys, and there may be new stuff they aren't as equipped to deal with.

B potentially helps others and they are probably better equipped for it based on the resources they have right now (granted they may still run into new stuff aside from fish guys). Helps provide a safer exit strategy down the line due to less surprises from those enemies and maybe find some treasure here and there. Could also lead to them possibly running into Moth Squad (I think they were below the laboratory right? With the time difference from when Ditch Squad left maybe they might run into them conveniently).

C probably just leads to less goodies while still having to deal with stuff anyway

I kind of see each choice associating with different members of the team

Man I am getting some serious Condemned Criminal Origins vibes from Shell Squad's location

As for the Moth Party...this is a pretty rough situation.

I am trying to judge the layout of where they are at currently. Hippos (and I am assuming monster hippos) are surprisingly fast but I don't think they can turn on a dime so if the team can make some narrow abrupt turns at the edge of the hallways and make use of the uneven terrain, that could probably buy them some time.

Trying to take this thing head on in a DIRECT charge (as option A seems to imply) just seems like a bad time. Hippos are fucking tanks as has been described

I am kind of leaning to C actually.

He felt like getting his boot stuck in the mud and sinking to oblivion would be a rather stupid way to die. As for Fah, she was walking along the top of it all, her sandals glowing the entire time. They seemed to be reducing her weight enough that there was no risk of her sinking in.

I wonder if the team can kite the thing out into the Mudlands and let the mud take care of it. Jamison was sinking when out there, think that'll stop the Uber Hippo (of course this is assuming going with C will lead to them even attempting that or trying to go for that hole to the second floor)?

Hmm going to go with C for now

I feel A is the worst of the three (though not that bad) as Aaron still isn't used to his weapon changes and if it just happens to break right away then shit falls apart real quick. It makes more progress though

With B it probably makes more advancement into the place faster as Leone's top tier sight will be able to find most problems ahead and allow the group to be prepared. Though this does put Leone at more risk potentially and having recently lost his/her hand most likely hinders them a good deal (as well as in other matters like disarming and such dunno)

C appears slow but safer (which considering this group makeup is probably best for them). Not as much advancement into the place compared to the other two choices (also probably less goodies and may allow hostiles more preparation deeper in), but does potentially offer other benefits like allowing Aaron time to get used to a new fighting approach, allowing the team to gain more synergy and get along with each other (Enoch seems to be helping with that), Leone getting more support, Jen to recover a little more and open up to everyone, Torin getting more comfortable, etc. They will also have more immediate access to the wagon supplies in case they are ambushed or if shit goes south at some point.

Also from an in character standpoint I can see Torin going with this approach as the "captain" of this particular team

I don't think much else will happen to the group he is sent to aside from the dangers they are already going to face and Goetic is one of the few remaining tacticians of the team (with Ditch having the best one already). That and he has intel on the place from the Smithy

It seemed the Devil intended to just surround him with people so he hopefully won't die to the dangers of the place

Regardless I am basically of similar view that Goetic and Jamison should both end up in either Shell or Moth ideally (one each). Based on personal speculation Goetic should end on Moth and Jamison to Shell to balance those parties out stat wise

Dismas is ranged

From what I can tell Shell doesn't have a range based offensive guy currently (I dunno about what Enoch will be carrying or what Torrin uses). Not sure on how effective he will be there but who knows (if shell makes them akin to the insect guys then his range combat may not be as useful but his melee might help though he is not as equipped for it).

Kidd is in a weird spot at this point where I could see him in different groups for different reasons (based on my own speculation of what the dangers for each group will entail as well as the people within those groups)

If Ditch does indeed deal with more spore esque stuff Kidd seemed to have an idea on how to exploit them, however I don't see him getting along with Maria. Dunno how he'll be with Dismas

With Shell Party Kidd has more people he is familiar with / sympathizes with and adds a potential range character into these ranks if they are necessary (again not sure how effective unless Leone's spotting will help). Dunno how he'll get along with Torin though (I don't see him pissing him off as much as Maria would but this is just speculation).

Finally with Moth Party he may also have people he knows (if Fah and Jamison end up going here) and range may be effective (though I am currently guessing that range may be more effective against psychic opponents). However, assuming Jamison ends up going here, this group already has 3 range attackers (Jamison, Zephyr, Matsuda...though Jamison and Zephyr are probably on the lower end of range effectiveness maybe?)

Kidd is also capable of melee combat due to also being a brawler so this opens up uses for him on that front for all groups as well. He has a very high assist rate so far but he is also injured
