For me..

Street Fighter is #1 since lots of iconic characters, easiest to get into, most fun and not too chaotic but (usually) pretty deep enough and easy to watch an understand

Blazblue is pretty fun but some characters are little too bs compared to others. That said, Celica and Es are some of my favorites to play in any FG.

Guilty Gear is well designed and really fun but sometimes the amount of mixups, combos and general craziness can be a bit much for me. Also I'm in a main crisis.

Haven't played much Mortal KOmbat but I played Injustice and I know its based on newer MK games without Fatalities. And it's kinda fun.

King of Fighters is kinda fun but I don't like being forced to main 3 characters (since I dont like 3 characters enough)

I played Soul Calibur 2, 4 and 5 a bit casually and it had some cool chars but I never played competitley so I never udnerstand more of the ltitle details of the system.

Killer Instinct (which you left out =() has some really awesome characters. I just don't really like the combo system in the newest one which sucks because I like just about everything else

I love a bunch of characters in MvC games but I think this game is just too crazy. Neutral is very atypical, assists are hard to know when to use and deal with, combos are too powerful and potetnially 1 touch with stuff like X factor.

I don't like the all punches and kick games of Tekken, Dead or Aliveand Virtua Fighter. Too boring to watch and play.

The demo didn't do much for me so i skipped this. Plan on getting it eventually once it gets cheaper, though.

It didnt for me either. The thing with the demo is they give so much shit to learn at once while the actual game slowly introduces the mechanics

Some of the best parts of the story are towards the beginning. The story part in the demo is one of the slower parts.

Sadly Xillia, Xillia 2, Zestiria and Berseria basically all used the same graphics engine (or really close) and environments/creative design wasn't their forte

35 or do hours in and unless it implodes from here on out it will easily be my favorite Tales game. Characters are strong. Battle system is jarring at first but gets really fun once you get the hang of it. Story is great, and I mean great in general, not just by Tales standards. Worst part is probably the music but it's not bad, just forgettable.

Shame that Zestiria poisoned the well and made it sell poorly!

Better than Vesperia? I plan to get it this year for sure. Glad to hear it is good.

My biggest complaint was the board attitude. Seriously, nothing seems to please the board in terms of contests anymore. There's no annoying outsiders now like with Draven/Undertale, but the community was hard to stand (with a few exceptions, like Luster and TRE which were awesome at tacking the Oracle Challenge without having the site at hand; Ngamer hosting Guru as always; etc).

I agree. But I can at least understand why they would have the attitude.

After 2010 was such a great year of contests (no more L-Block, back to 1v1s over 4ways) people just had really high expectations of contests. To be honest it would be really hard to top this year for modern contests.

SBAllen's just trying to spice things up and space things apart so people don't get contest fatigue. Obviously this board wouldn't but outside that you probably know that others always complains about Link/Ocarina/FF7 always winning so..

He IS mixing contest ideas that are new like Rivals and Years and honestly they're not bad in terms of concept. The way they were set up or presented in the match pics/bracket werent always the best but it was a nice change of pace from just seeing characters/games contests all the time.

Back to expectations, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 all had trends that wildly differed from the norm of 2002-2010 contests. A big problem would be vote totals being a lot lower than they used to be as well as diluted night/day trends. This makes 'comeback' matches (which are usually pretty exciting) pretty rare since if we just stuck to GameFAQs matches they just don't happen. Some upsets do happen still but not as often since B8 has seen so many contests we just know what's generally popular. Upsets are always fun to watch but it's hard to get them without completely new entrants or some weird outside influence.

The lower vote totals also makes crazy rallies a lot easier to make matches not even close. Honestly as much as b8 doesn't want to admit a whole bunch of people DO get unnecessarily salty when rallies come and "ruins" matches. If they didn't make a fuss, the 'trolls' likely wouldn't have done the Draven thing as much (Undertale lesser extent since many rallied fans actually like the game).

So SBallen tried to appease B8 by having a format that's REALLY hard to rally and they just didnt happen this contest. It was a cool idea but b8 just got bored due to the circumstances of the contests (as well as the match pics which were an unfortunate flaw that SBAllen likely could have done better).

My main point is I think Board 8 is secretly hoping for the mix of everything we had back in 2010. High vote totals, 1v1, rallies not making a 70-30%, and potential of unpredictability and close matches. However, vote totals is a BIG part of it and at this point running 2 contests a year isn't going to make people come back to GameFAQs. It'll just get non-b8ers sick of contests and eventually characters battles and game battles will actually become super predictable.
