Selling the docks separately

You see this a lot with retro games. People sell the game, box, and manual separately to get more money.

I'm more surprised people buy the box - i mean i...suppose as a collector, but as a flipper can you profit paying shipping on that?

for the past couple of days,I tried so many from jemdo, and the other companies banking they were using similar builds/chipset as a reditor tried/succeeded, and they all have the same damn update screen he showed except sometimes it's Japanese/Chinese text for the program.

The issue with mine is this thing is NEVER detected by my computer, and i have plenty of quality usb c to a cables. Troubleshooted for days, and content to let this just be my steam/switch 1 dock. In all those attempts, at least it didn't brick as i heard some cases of that happening when trying to mismatch the firmware.

Well, if i can't update the thing, you guys called it...it really was a Piece of junk. The switch 2 is good, so I'll take that L, and try to be more careful as that could have been worse.

It was so nice having just one little device to dock all my devices too. Maybe i'll get that jemdo one a few months later if i want an all in one.

Thus ends another episode of FUCK NINTEN-ME!

Years later...now look at other M as potentially having the most impactful story a nintendo game ever did, but they botched it.

The twist of portraying Samus in some abusive relationship the way they did, to grow and become who she is now could have hit hard if executed properly. The story doesn't even realize how fucked her relationship with Adam actually is though. lol

Also see docks rendered incompatible are starting to get frimware updates/PSAs about working on it which is cool to see.

Gonna get one that's still working post update, and made double sure it has firmware updates this time along with the oem charger while i'm at it. My desk is going to be a cluttered mess, but whatever.

With all the concern of Switch 2, curious if the same restrictions happen if a switch1/OLED is updated.

Based on his updates in the comments in that Austin John Plays video, it appears to only be the cheaper "dongle" style docks that no longer work.

Yeah, was just looking at it noticing this too. Shame...loved those things.

Also saw that even the OEM dock was requiring a hard reset after this update.

I get how people might assume just i bought the cheapest thing available, but that wasn't the only factor here. Seeing it work is important too than its price tag.

More research than i...care to admit went into this. Saved me from a worse outcome.

Didn't think about one thing though...will i get that firmware support since it's that cheap? The silver hub was screwed too, but higher price tag can put more faith in that support.

Don't wanna be a rage baiter, but that's why i mention the nyko dock, and Nintendo's firmware update were the causes of it back in the day. I don't know what they did, but that update started the bricking going off order of events.

Years of being fugal, and living below means...would be lying if i said it didn't shape my mentality on things.

Edit: That update changed their voltages, and in combo with that nyko AC...

That's why i consider so impressive the insignia dock from best buy has no blood on its hands to this day across the switch gen. It had it's own brick too that i still use on steam deck.

That's the funny thing...their OEM one is an over priced PoS. Oh, i get the idea of "buy cheap, buy twice.

Well, I'm no rich man, but part of me getting debt freedom is my willingness to take these risk, and try to buy optimally. That said, knew i was betting here when i tried pulling this off, but i could have lost so much more as you say with the switch 2 bricking for example, so can live with this going wrong.

That's where all the years of troubleshooting come in, and i stay calm.

...Been through worse. Coming up on 10 years as a PC Builder, and all that B.S. made me not anger so easily.

Portability, the slim docks fit inside cases. Nintendo is leaving money on the table not selling their own version for probably $70.

People would hop on that - hell, back in the og switch days, saw people strip the board out the dock, and put it in a portable one. Nintendo can do this as those fans aren't cooling the switch 2 IIRC.

I only bought at launch because I assumed that like the Switch there would be a good chance of a hardware exploit to allow dumping that would be fixed in later models.

Nintendo usually are behind on online stuff, but they put extra effort in trying to lock their consoles down now. However, it's only a matter of time.

This doesn't appear to be true, since most 3rd party docks didn't break with the update, just some of the cheaper ones.

This just happened, and I saw someone confirm their 3rd party dock still worked, but it was just one saw far. If this is just the cheaper ones, need more info. New developments while i slept?

I will say that nyko dock that had blood on its hands on the first switch, and caused the fear mongering...It didn't fry usb c ports until post firmware update.

You get the one last chance, but one slip of the restart button, and that's it. Before i knew it i clicked through it. In my defense after that session, i was tired, and was just about to sleep.

Why then wouldn't you buy a used Switch 2 with a dock? You still wouldn't be giving Nintendo your money, and you'd have a lot fewer headaches.

laptops can handle all sorts of USB-C hubs and docks. no reason why the switch shouldnt be able to. nintendo is just being a dick.
if the hardware in the dock isnt up to snuff, just limit the features available i.e. charging or whatever

It was on sale, and given the prime thing went for it. Just saw on YT it was confirmed to work.

a 10-12$ dock was rendered incompatible, my OLED is still compatible pre update. So, rather than throw money at a problem, wait to gather further information.

It was part of the plan to buy the tablet alone on ebay, buy a third party dock on amazon, then done! Saves over 100 bucks this way.

It has backwards compatibility, so you should already have the controllers you need.

Researched, and knew it worked, but this was the risk i took out of spite. It was 12 bucks, and i met their specs with the AC, so wasn't worried about frying the thing.

Edit: The first switch had the nyko dock incident which made everyone scared that all third party docks would kill the switch - in reality, it looks like it was the nyko docks AC that did it. I used best buy's insignia for years, and never had an issue/non reported online. That fear is what they wanted.

I'm not even THAT mad as I knew the risk when I decided to be ghetto about buying it without giving the big N money, and was aware of them locking out docks/hubs being likely.

Still a bitch ass thing to do...Think I gotta wait for a firmware update that will emulate the new "handshake" if possible. I'm not dropping over 100 bucks for a hunk of plastic with fans if i can help it.

I bought the GAMOREK Switch 2 TV Dock btw when i did this project. Trying my spare hubs now for the hell of it.

I guess let this be a warning to 3rd party dock users - though we all saw this coming.

TC, take breaks from sitting down for so long. Go for a walk. Also, work out your back. Will help reduce aches. Cold pad and then hot pad can help with the aches.
