My roommate installed a new tire on her bike and kept the spare in the dining room near the balcony. We noticed yesterday it was gone, and of course, she blew up and blamed me originally.

Anyways, we thought maybe my brother did it so we asked him when he woke up and he said he didn't touch it either. Which means someone entered the apartment somehow without us knowing and took it.

It may have been maintenance, we had an order in to fix the soap holder on our bathroom wall for like the 5th time, and they have keys to every apartment and can enter whenever.

The one she ordered and installed is meant to turn her bike into a motorized bike, but the battery she ordered is being delivered to an address in Oklahoma for some reason, so she is wanting to get a refund and revert back.

that is some BS. should be given at least 24 hours notice of when they may show up.

in oregon they do that. but it's not oregon (different state with different laws about entering apartments by management).

Aren't tires supposed to move? It would be a pretty poor example of a tire if it just stayed still.

thieves will take anything. i had a lincare supply box that contained a CPAP mask and some filters. got taken off my doorstep.

there's no value in the supplies.

that is why i bought a ring camera because i'll know who did it. then i can shame them by posting the video on the neighbors watch.

The service request. Assuming its a tile shower with the soap holder? The issue may be and they dont want to bother is the backer board/wall need to be replaced. Such a pain in the ass. If I were maint/mgmt I would rip out the tile and put in just a standard fiberglass surround and call it done.

I bet she moved it but forgot she did. And/or someone set something on top of it so its hidden from view.

honestly though i'd question if you or your room mate have a former SI who hate you or want to fuck with you. breaking into someones house and stealing pointless shit like that is something i've heard abusive assholes do.

Did she maybe forget that she left it in the box that was goong to be used to return it. Or the one the new tire came in.

Its ceazy the number of times I lose shit and its either sitting under some crap five inches from where I thought it was or in a totally different spot because I forgot I moved it.

Its easy to forget that stuff if you didnt finish a task.

Then three weeks later I discover it.

The tire is pretty big and there arent a lot of big open spaces where it would fit. We've checked over the living room, dining room etc so many times. The only box it could be in is still empty, and I believe that's the box the new tire came in.

Then one of you clearly has developed a split personality that is working against you while you sleep.

Am I the only one one 2025 who finds the concept of having indoor cameras in common areas creepy? I think it is way too normalized as a societal trend to put cameras everywhere, to be OK with being filmed all the time. Especially giving the ties the government has to tech companies. Like, I really don't get it, especially given that the roommate almost certainly just misplaced the item and wants to deflect blame.

It's not misplaced, this is like day 3 or 4 and it is nowhere. This isnt like losing a TV remote or something, theres only so many places a bike tire could be, much less fit.
