Anybody watch any of the Mae Young Classic yet? Was anything good? None of the first round matches jumped off the page to me and I'm hearing commentary is horrendous, but I'm not quite as familiar with all of the competitors as I was with the CWC so I figure there may be some surprises in there.

Yeah, sure. Betances threw at the first batter in the inning on an 0-1 count in a tie game in the middle of a playoff race where he was already the fourth Yankee pitcher, knowing full well it would get him ejected and another guy would have to come in with little to no warm-up time. That makes sense.

Anything they gave to Dellin, they would've had to give to Fulmer too, and they obviously weren't willing to do that even though Fulmer's looked way more intentional in the first place.

All those punishments are extremely fair.

Yeah, Hearts R has a lot of things that I really like in it, it's just dragged down by having potentially the most forgettable cast in the series. Not bad, necessarily, but definitely forgettable.

Symphonia is one of my favorite JRPGs but I've been slow to catch up with the series since the early games and DotNW were underwhelming. Finally got through Eternia last month, which was at least a big improvement over Phantasia/Destiny. Currently replaying Symphonia and still love it.

I hope you guys are right about the later games improving on Symphonia. Plan to playing Legendia next though so it might be awhile before I get to the good ones!

Too late, already bought Legendia. Plus I figure I'd try it at some point and better now than after the games that many claim are even better than Symphonia.

Some people really love Legendia. It's got either the best or second-best OST in the series depending on what kind of mood I'm in, and the setting is pretty cool. It definitely doesn't stack up to the best Tales has to offer, but I think the hate for it gets really overblown sometimes.

Who is this btw? I only watched the anime so I'm curious. Is it Rose?

Rose was a minor background character but Baba got the hots for the VA, so he had the entire story rewritten to make her a lead, and shoved Alicia to the back (I hear Alicia has a lot more presence in the anime. She's absent for most of the game). Many details in the game imply this was done well into development, and had a catastrophic effect on the overall game's quality (Zestiria was supposed to be a game changing release for Tales, with a much higher budget and much larger marketing push).

I'm in the beginning stages of doing a big ranking series on B8 of Tales party members and the only reason Marta Lualdi may not absolutely run away with last place is because of the disaster that was Rose.

I don't even have as big of an issue with the AI as I do with the fact that the whole Armatization gimmick forced you to have Sorey and Rose in your party at all times, especially because without the Armatus they were boring as hell in battle.

And yeah, the camera is inexcusable.

Man, even thinking about Zesty again makes me upset.

Still need to go through the pre-Symphonia stuff at some point.

I consider Symphonia to be the worst of the good Tales games. I look on it fondly because it was my introduction to the series, which has become my absolute favorite game series, but everything about it is pretty middling. Every game above it on that ranking does at least one thing significantly better. Its character cast is average, the story is pretty generic, the music is forgettable, and the battle gameplay is pretty simplistic especially compared to Graces or Hearts.

It's still a 7.5/10ish game, but that puts it solidly below all the 8s and 9s that Tales typically puts out.

And re:Zestiria, that game is just bad all the way through. Not "bad for Tales standards" or "good to a certain point when it all falls apart" or "bad but with some good ideas." Bad all the way around and it will forever be a black mark on the series. And since it's so connected to Berseria, they can't even retroactively call it a spinoff like they did to try and erase Tempest from people's memories.

And the implication in your original post is that Sasha has become a really bad wrestler.

I don't understand why this is a problem. Plenty of male wrestlers are saved by their looks too.

Brian Cage is an aggressively mediocre worker but there's hardly anyone who looks more like a wrestler nowadays.
