After finally figuring out the show's name (Sasakoi from the website link in the video description, thanks for nothing to all those Youtube comments that just said "this manga"), I looked up its premise. Starting with a misunderstanding and reluctance from both sides doesn't sound great, but what the hell I'll still give it a shot.

I still haven't found a good yuri romance anime. All the ones I've seen were disappointing one way or another. Maybe this one will finally be it???

But Kakuriyo had a main character with her own personality and agency! Plus her relationships with everyone built up over time in an interesting and believable way. Sacrificial Princess was just too easy and straightforward for me, which is odd because they faced a lot more obstacles from society than the girl in Kakuriyo ever did. Sariphi was just too flat of a character to make any of it engaging.

I still kept up with Zero Punctuation, mostly out of habit at this point. This is kind of surprising though. Youtube often recommends other Escapist videos because I watch ZP, and it looked like they'd been really branching out lately.

Yeah, the power scaling was a bit wacky. Some things went from being genuine threats to no threat at all in like half a day. They always introduced new threats, though, so I didn't mind as much. Like you said, too, the strategizing during the battles was another strong point for Hell's Paradise. I'm always a fan of battles that have more going on than just a character digging deep and hitting the bad guy harder than before.

I didn't think After the Rain was terrible or anything, but it wasn't very good either. Both of the main characters were boring and I had no investment in their relationship on any level. The art and animation did look pretty, though.

High five! I started trying to lose weight in July after realizing I was over 200. Started around 205, now I'm around 185 (goal will be around 150 I think). Definitely not as impressive as your loss, but I definitely feel a lot better so you must feel great after 50.

Interesting, thank you. I certainly don't have anything against people watching dubs (unless it's a bad dub for a good show and people say the show sucks because the dub sucks (yes I'm still bitter about AICO)). There are just a lot of anime quirks that I think would feel wrong coming from an English speaker. Stuff like how they sometimes go "Mm" when answering a question "yes", and theres no lip flap there so it's not like the dub can just say "yes" instead. "Mm" has a very different meaning from an English speaker! Plus there are all the stock phrases like itadakimasu. I've probably seen that translated a hundred different ways over the years, but it doesn't matter what the subs say because I hear it and know what it means. I'd miss little things like that in a dub, I think.

But hey, as long as dub watchers enjoy the anime, that's all that matters! Manga readers probably think I'm crazy too for basically never reading manga.

Out of curiosity (since there are a lot of dub watchers in here), how do dubs handle certain unrealistic animeisms? Like when a character is staring at someone and does the "jiiiii" staring sound effect, does the dub say "staaare" or something? Or do they just cut it out?

I wonder how many people here saying subs here would use Chinese or Korean voices if those were the original voices in their animation or games, even with the option of a Japanese dub.

I admittedly don't interact much with media in languages other than Japanese or English, but I try to watch everything in its original language. Even with awful subtitles, I'm still getting the original language's volume and intonation and whatnot.

Video games are the odd exception where I don't mind dubs, though.

I'm still salty that they botched the dub for AICO. It's one of my top five anime but the general public never had the opportunity to give it a chance.

Sub > Dub forever

Extremist opinion aside, sometimes Netflix subs are badly formatted (Komi especially was rough because Netflix sucked at showing written text) but I don't remember any problems with their subs for Monster.

For what I've seen in the poll, Insomniacs was easily my favorite. It's hard to imagine the manga somehow being even better than that!

Insomniacs > Frieren > Apothecary > Buddy

I'm only five episodes into Heavenly Delusion, but at the moment it would be second place. I plan to watch the other poll options soon, too.

On another note, I glanced back through MAL and didn't see anything I missed that should've made the poll. Just a few high-rated Chinese anime that were all second seasons. My poll is officially legit!

When I eventually play XVI, this Cid T guy had better be the best character ever! He's got some big expectation to live up to.

I'll be sure to add Pluto to the list of shows to watch the one month of the year where I have Netflix! The other one I was looking at the other day was that Happy Marriage one.

Lycoris Recoil was a fun show. It went too dark at times for my taste, but Chisato and Takina were both great.

Instead of finishing any of the several shows I've already started, I began watching Twin Star Exorcists today. It's pretty good so far! The battles against the weird supernatural creatures have all been fine. My favorite thing, though, is the dynamic between the main guy and girl. It's established pretty early on that they're destined to get married someday, but as of six episodes in they're still at the stage where they can't stand each other. It's fun and cute.

I went ahead and bought the first three volumes of the Dark Gathering manga. Just got done reading the first one. It's really good! I prefer the anime, mostly because I think I'll always prefer anime to manga. The anime also expanded a few scenes for the better, in my opinion. It was neat seeing little differences like that. The manga has its own positives too, though. Each chapter ends with a bonus page that's like a blooper from a movie, like showing the characters flub a line or having a scene play out radically differently than it actually did. One of those outtake pages made me laugh out loud. I love Dark Gathering.

It looks like the anime will go way further than what's currently available in English for the manga. Still, I'll definitely keep up with it as new volumes release. That means this will be the first manga I actually follow along with!

The combat system in LR definitely too me some time to get good at, but I really loved it in the end.

I think I finished both seasons of Kimi ni Todoke but I don't remember anything about it. Not sure if I finished the manga but I remember it being very frustrating for the things you mentioned. It's misunderstandings all the way down. It's not even cute misunderstandings like Bisque Doll.

What I really liked about the first season was that the misunderstandings made sense and the characters did everything they could to resolve them. At one point, Kazehaya even grabbed Sawako's arm and took her to a place where they wouldn't be interrupted so he could ask her about a potential misunderstanding! I don't know where that guy went but I missed him deeply in S2.

S2 of KnT is certainly worse than S1. Much worse, even. It has a nice ending at least.

I'm glad to hear the ending is nice. I guess I will finish it. A crappy season with a nice ending sounds less frustrating than not seeing the nice ending.

I'm guessing I'm in the minority, but I really liked this episode. It's a nice little survival story. And the idea that society could collapse because we built robot security dogs and they were too effective is freaky to me.

I haven't voted in this contest before, but today is the rare day where I know both characters and I want to make an argument for Mr. Burns.

My reasoning is based in the caveat that we should consider characters at equal "power level". In the episode "The Old Man and the Lisa", Mr. Burns loses all his wealth and becomes a regular citizen. It looks like he's changed when he gets into recycling... but, by the end of the episode, he's created a recycling plant that also scoops up all nearby sea life and grinds it into slurry. Even as a regular guy, Burns manages immense, environmentally destructive evil. And that's when he's trying to do good! As Lisa put it, "You're still evil, and when you're trying to be good, you're even more evil!"

Johan, meanwhile, actually had a subplot where he was trying to get close to a lonely old man for access to wealth and political power. However, he wound up abandoning that plan in favor of another one that targeted far fewer people, albeit in a much more personal way. Even when he has the opportunity to acquire wealth and all the destructive power that comes with it, he opts for smaller scale evil. Johan is a nightmare on an individual level, but his evil is far more contained. The most he ever did was orchestrate a massacre in one small town. I can't picture him poisoning an entire town like Burns often does.

Mr. Burns hid toxic waste in trees at a public park, and that was after he stopped using playgrounds because all the bald children were starting to draw attention. I can't picture Johan ever doing something like that because it's too impersonal. And Burns is plenty capable of being personal too. He crippled Milhouse to inspire a sports team, and threatened to come back and finish the job unless the team won! He's got my vote in this for sure.
