My brother is looking for anime suggestions if anyone can help. He wants a mecha anime, but not one where they jump around or fly a bunch. Like, he's been getting into Battletech/Mechwarrior and he's wondering if there's an anime where the mechas are slow, lumbering and stompy weapons platforms.

I haven't seen many mecha anime myself, and most of them are the jumpy kind like Planet With. Even 86 has the spider mechs running around fast and climbing buildings and such

I finished Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. I mentioned in the previous anime topic that I had started it hoping for a nice slice-of-life like Flying Witch. It, uh, wasnt like that at all! A few episodes were goofy, but there were also several that were incredibly dark. As someone else mentioned in the last topic too, this really was similar to Kino's Journey. They're both about a wandering protagonist visiting strange locations with a kind of short story vibe. I've only seen the 2017 Kino, but it's one of my most hated anime. The themes in Kino were either nonsensical ("fuck your farmland, our mobile city is more important") or mind-numbingly basic ("slavery is bad, durr"). Thankfully, Wandering Witch had much better writing. It even had a slavery episode, but the message was far more nuanced. It rightfully assumed that the viewer would already know that slavery is bad, so instead it delved into how misguided kindness can be patronizing and harmful. I thought that was an interesting idea to explore.

As someone who usually doesn't like grim stories, I was surprised to realize that the darker episodes were easily my favorites. The flower field one was good, and the Mirarose one was amazing. I even liked the one that opened with a "viewer discretion is advised" content warning! Sadly, some of the goofy episodes were too silly for my tastes. Usually it would be the other way around with me, but in Wandering Witch the darker episodes all explored unique ideas. The silly episodes were mostly Saya being a wacky lesbian. That's fine, don't get me wrong, but when I think back on this in the future I know the darker episodes will be the ones I remember.

So, yeah. Wandering Witch was a decent anime. I'm glad I watched it.

Was there a main moogle from Madain Sari in FFIX? I tried looking on the FF wiki but it mostly just mentions "moogles"

I vaguely recall Eiko having a best friend moogle but I don't remember any of their names

I took a but of a break from anime, but I'm trying to get back into it now. I still have a handful of shows to finish from Winter, and then I missed the entire Spring season so I've got some catching up to do.

To start with, I finished Bofuri S2. It's always a fun show, and I enjoy watching Maple keep stumbling into ways to break the VRMMO. Still, I thought the second season wasn't as good as the first. The last few episodes especially were pretty much just a montage of everyone using their super-abilities over and over to bash boss monsters. My favorite thing about Bofuri was the sense of discovery as Maple gained new powers, and that really wasn't focused on much this season. Still, like I said, it's still a fun show. S2 just didn't elevate it to new heights

It looks like no one is interested in my partnership offer for any of those characters, but thats okay. I at least figured I'd put it out there

I have a fallback character to support in any case. Someone who I think is terrific but who is often unfairly treated as terrable

I'm only five episodes in (and I really didnt like the fourth one, it was too needlessly dark) but this still seems like a fine anime.

Steins;Gate

From what remains, I don't know anything about Fate and the franchise seems difficult to get into. I mean there's a visual novel and a big time gacha game and a few different anime. Do they expect me to do five minutes of research before starting it?!?

Steins;Gate is good, but maybe I'll watch a few Mushishi episodes tonight and see how I feel about it before deciding. I've taken a long break from anime while obsessively playing Project Zomboid. It's time to watch something again
