just to clarify;

this statement doesn't mean "I know people have thoughts about it, but they keep it quiet"

it means "If anyone has thoughts about it I'm not aware, because no one ever said anything regarding it while I was around"

the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence but it kinda seems like if there was this huge cultural movement against it I might have heard someone say something regarding it at some point in the last decade.

I haven't dated anyone seriously in some time, so I can't speak for 'relationship,' but I have been out with people of different races

if anyone around here has thoughts on it they keep it to themselves. the area where I live is like 40% white, 40% black, and 20% other. I think people around here are just well adjusted and it doesn't literally blow their minds that people of different races are capable of interacting with each other.

my mom and sister live on the other side of the country and since I haven't been in a serious relationship lately the whole 'meeting family members' thing just hasn't come up. I know neither of them would care. don't really know what my extended family would think, but I'm not really close with any of them.

I'm not really a huge proponent of the theory so I may have been conflating some things. the Doom seems to refer to something else, and more recent, so it's probably unrelated. the nuclear fallout would've happened long before that, during the 'long night', which would have given more time for technological advances to be lost over time.

But we know Westeros had medieval level technology before Valyria was destroyed only a few hundred years ago, and that Dorne resisted the Targaryens' attack. I can see the Targaryens not having access to fancy things like nukes, but if they had normal modern weapons they would be almost unable to lose.

we actually "know" almost nothing about the history of westeros. reports are muddled and often contradictory.

there are actually fan theories that westeros is a post-nuclear society and that the long night was a nuclear winter.

1. we've never seen the doom of valyria, we only know that people who go there don't survive. this could be the site of a nuclear attack. the lingering radiation makes it so that going there will lead to an inevitable death.
2. when the bomb(s) fell, this created a fallout that led to a nuclear winter. this was known as the 'long night' and reset society back to the stone age or middle ages.
3. people survived the long night by staying in the many, many tunnels and underground caverns all over westeros. we've even seen many places that have heated water in below ground locations.
4. if there was some kind of system to control the climate and it malfunctioned this could explain why the seasonal changes in westeros make no sense. we don't know what things were like before the long night, but we know that ever since then summer lasts way too long and winter lasts way too long.

it's kinda difficult because none of this is really proof, it just leaves wiggle room where you could certainly believe that it was plausible if you wanted to. and since GRRM never resolves a lot of mysteries in the books directly, leaving it up to the reader to find out, it's possible that even if this WERE true it would never be directly addressed in the text at any point.

some people have also pointed out the construction of long-standing castles which would have required technology more advanced than what currently exists in Westeros, but this could just be an author error.

yeah 10 cloverfield lane was great, and everything that happened in that movie made logical sense.

this movie could've been helped a lot by better writing. there was some weak acting too but it was decent enough. improving the acting would not have helped the bad script. but improving the bad script could have made the movie a lot better, even with having only a few acting moments that shined.

That doesn't really disprove the point made though. If players from rank 20-15 are playing it at a 40% winrate, and players from rank 5 and up are at 55%, does that make it a bad deck?

The numbers are made up for the example.

I'm not trying to disprove any points, I'm just giving data that shows that what mike said is probably accurate based on the sample size he was looking at

Someone in the comments pointed out that it might be a Patron Warrior situation, where it's easily the best deck but suffers a low winrate because of its difficulty to pilot.

In that case, "12th best deck" doesn't really make sense. I'm sure it's not the 12th best deck from rank 5 to legend.

overall based on player-gathered statistics it looks like the 11th best deck. considering this is really close to the figures that mike stated it's probably accurate. he just has access to more data than we do.

yeah my complaints were completely with the internal logic being nonexistent. the fact that the science of the movie had nothing to do with real life science is just par for the course and not anything that would usually hinder my enjoyment.

definitions I used when voting

brain teaser: a puzzle where you're given specific directions and then have to solve the puzzle by interacting with its elements. like having a bunch of sliding blocks which form an image when arranged in a certain order.

riddle: a word puzzle which is delivered to you by text or verbally. the solution of the riddle is answering the question, and finding the solution usually involves the manipulation of language. often the question is worded in a deceptive way that makes the solution difficult to understand, or the solution is a seemingly mundane answer which can mean something else beyond just the denotation of the word.

trick question: similar to a riddle but intentionally designed and asked in a way so that the question itself is trying to deceive the person solving the riddle. a riddle is generally solved by knowing some background information or trivia, and making connections that are not always obvious. on the other hand a trick question is solved by observation. were you paying attention to the person asking the question and did you spot the trick? if not, you'll never solve it.

why did the worms end up inside of that one guy, and the compass, and why did this not kill him immediately

why did they remain on their own station but somehow have access to the logs from the other station

why did jensen end up on their ship but no one else from the original crew did

why did random stuff happen like the airlock flooding with water or the maintenance rig becoming randomly magnetized and actively trying to kill that dude

seems like they just used 'parallel reality' as a free license to do away with any sort of logic, even internal logic, that would cause anything in this movie to make sense. instead of having a primary antagonist they opted to just have random scenes where the station kills the people on it for seemingly no reason. like most horror films this was a complete mess in terms of writing that made absolutely no sense and was overall less enjoyable as a result. I still give it a 6/10 because there were some good scenes and character interactions.

that was a lot of movie to sit through in order to see only 2 seconds of monster not doing anything at the end.

full disclosure I'm a bit biased as someone who thinks we have never needed this movie and thought it was a dumb idea from basically the moment it was announced.

trailer looks like they are trying way too hard and it's going to be very bad as a result.

Does this worry anyone else that it might be releasing this way in order to avoid poor critical reviews? Like a backdoor media blackout.

I think it's kinda cool, honestly, but it may just be the novelty. like 'hey this thing is coming out... right now.' without any hype or build up, or needing to wait for months. you can just go and watch it pretty much right away if you want. I can't think of any other examples of things like this. at least not any things I was interested in.

thanks for your insight. I figured the impersonation thing would be difficult to resolve without the original preston around to contest it. which is kinda eerie, in a way. like knowing that if you ever left the board someone could take over your identity and nothing would be done about it.

anyway I do still wonder about the harassment stuff since it seems like he harasses numerous users and rarely ever gets punished for it.
