Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on Tuesday falsely claimed that healthcare workers "don't get infected" with Covid-19 "because they take appropriate precautions" as he attempted to make the case for reopening schools in the falleven with coronavirus cases surging across the United States.

"If we don't have enough PPE for the healthcare workers on the front lines, how can we possibly have enough PPE for all of the country's teachers to take the same precautions?"
Sarah Karlin-Smith, Pink Sheet

"There's no reason we can't do any of this," Azar, a former pharmaceutical lobbyist and executive, said during an event at the White House. "We have healthcare settings. We have healthcare workers, they don't get infected because they take appropriate precautions. They engage in social distancing, they wear facial covering, they use good personal hygiene. This can work, you can do all of this. There's no reason schools have to be in any way any different."

In addition to noting that Azar's claim about healthcare workers not getting infected is wildly falseaccording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 94,000 healthcare workers have contracted Covid-19 and at least 500 have diedmedical professionals rejected the argument that precautionary measures taken in healthcare settings can easily be replicated in the nation's schools.

"We are trained in infection control and have used [personal protective equipment] for years," tweeted Prasad Jallepalli, MD, a professor at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. "This is almost as dumb as the 'give teachers guns' proposal."

Sarah Karlin-Smith, a reporter with Pink Sheet, asked: "If we don't have enough PPE for the healthcare workers on the front lines, how can we possibly have enough PPE for all of the country's teachers to take the same precautions?"

They're intent on killing Americans. This goes beyond incompetence. This is out right malicious.

If for no other reason than getting these total dick less, brainless morons out of high positions, we need to vote Trump out. It isn't just him that has no idea what he's doing, it's the whole fucking lot of them

in a fair world the whole chain of command would be stripped of their badges for this.

This is why we need a national system that tracks all disciplinary action taken against any and all officers, the leaders that issued it, all relevant documentation attached.

What if the kid cracked his head on the pavement and died?

This is a big issue in Australia. from 2000-2014, 91 people died from sucker punches in Australia (it's been renamed to "coward punch" in Australia)

People convicted of fatal one-punch assaults while under the influence of drugs or alcohol face minimum eight-year sentences in Australia.
That's murder. You punched a man, and killed him. You murdered him.

A minimum sentence should be somewhere around the range of 25 to life

Say a Karen sees a man talking to some kid at a table at a mall. She has no idea their relationship. She calls a security guard to keep an eye on them while they go about their day. Is that sexist?

It's a disgusting, damaging stereotype that men get labeled as pedophiles for daring to exist in a realm of the world where children may happen to be present.

Not to mention the trust issues it can create for kids when they're raised to see every single man as a predator.

I get being cautious (obviously teach kids not to go to the man in the white van offering candy) but I feel like things have spiraled way out of control and you can't even look at a baby or a child, as a man, and smile without getting judgemental looks.

It would've been too fucking easy for him to wear a mask, take basic precautions, lead his base in the charge to do so and then when he had his opponents slipping on it or refusing, he could have easily called them on they bullshit and said they hate America because they want to bring the virus to you and your family.

It would've been so easy. And it would've likely helped his poll numbers in a great way.

I just don't get it. This man has plenty reason to want to be and stay President. Are his advisors so brain dead stupid that they couldn't get him to understand that? Or is he just incapable of understanding?

The only level it might make sense on is if he was explicitly bungling his handling to make his medical company executive buddies more money.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/kanye-west-ppp-loan-yeezy-scientology-trump-business-pandemic-a9605291.html

Kanye Wests clothing line and the Church of Scientology were among billion-dollar brands who used US government loans designed to help businesses survive the Covid-19 pandemic.
The US Small Business Administration (SBA) said on Monday that the billionaire rappers Yeezy brand had been cleared to receive $5 million (4m) under the governments small-business loan program.

Yeezy, which made $1.3 billion (1.52b) in 2019, said to the SBA that the loan would save 160 workers from unemployment, according to NBC News analysis.

Three Church of Scientology locations in New York, Washington DC and Florida were also cleared to receive loans between $150,000 (120,000) and $350,000 (278,000) each.

US Congress passed the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) in March to secure small loans for businesses and nonprofits with less than 500 workers amid Covid-19 shutdowns.
That coronavirus bill set-aside more than $320 billion (256b) in government money to assist small businesses who were expected to struggle amid the pandemic.

Almost three months on, the SBA list published on Monday shows that Mr West and other billionaires used the PPP to receive loans.
PPP was sold to the American people as a program to help Mom-and-Pop shops keep their lights on during the pandemic, said Accountable.US watchdog president Kyle Herrig to NBC News. "The reality is that the Trump administration created a program that helped the well connected cut to the front of the line to get these loans.
PPP applicants also included multimillionaire pop artist Jeff Koons, Hollywood producer Francis Ford Coppola, Hamptons property developer Joe Farrell and the Church of Scientology, which is reported to be worth at least $1 billion (802m).
Those businesses needed to prove in their application that current economic uncertainty makes this loan request necessary to support the ongoing operations of the Applicant.

Should've been worded so only actual small businesses (as in, made under $500M) received these loans.

https://theweek.com/speedreads/923821/white-house-reportedly-hoping-americans-grow-numb-covid19-death-toll

As new COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to rise in the United States, White House officials are reportedly crossing their fingers that Americans will simply get used to it.
President Trump's advisers are looking to "reframe" his coronavirus pandemic response, and they want to "convince Americans that they can live with the virus," with White House officials hoping "Americans will grow numb to the escalating death toll and learn to accept tens of thousands of new cases a day," The Washington Post reports. One senior administration official said Americans will have to "live with the virus being a threat," while a former official told the Post, "They're of the belief that people will get over it or if we stop highlighting it, the base will move on and the public will learn to accept 50,000 to 100,000 new cases a day."

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, recently said the U.S. could soon reach this shockingly high number of 100,000 new cases a day while also warning that the final death toll will be "very disturbing." The U.S. has reported almost 130,000 deaths from COVID-19 and has been setting records for the number of new cases per day.
NBC News similarly reports the White House is preparing a new message on COVID-19 that the country must "learn to live with it." Trump has faced a declining approval rating during the pandemic, with Bloomberg reporting on Monday that support for Trump "is slipping fastest in the 500 counties where the number of cases have been more than 28 coronavirus deaths per 100,000 people." Meanwhile, the Post reports that presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden's campaign plans to keep attacking Trump for his COVID-19 response, arguing that, as one adviser put it to the Post, "the country would be in a much different place today ... if Joe Biden had been the president in January."
