Postal workers and their allies in Congress are vowing to fight back after the new head of the U.S. Postal Servicea major donor to President Donald Trump and the Republican Partymoved this week to impose sweeping changes to the popular government agency as it faces a financial crisis manufactured by lawmakers and exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Washington Post reported late Tuesday that Postmaster General (PMG) Louis DeJoy, who took charge last month, issued memos announcing "major operational changes" to the USPS "that could slow down mail delivery, warning employees the agency would not survive unless it made 'difficult' changes to cut costs."

"Analysts say the documents present a stark reimagining of the USPS that could chase away customersespecially if the White House gets the steep package rate increases it wantsand put the already beleaguered agency in deeper financial peril as private-sector competitors embark on hiring sprees to build out their own delivery networks," the Post noted.

According to the internal USPS memos (pdf) obtained by the Post, "DeJoy told employees to leave mail behind at distribution centers if it delayed letter carriers from their routes," a change critics said could threaten access to absentee ballots at a time when vote-by-mail is more important than ever.

"If the plants run late, they will keep the mail for the next day," reads a document titled, "New PMG's expectations and plan."

China has declared primaries held by Hong Kongs pro-democratic parties on the weekend illegal and the citys leader has announced an investigation, saying that the candidates intention to vote against government legislation could break national security laws.

The primary polls, while not a formal part of Hong Kongs election process, drew an estimated 600,000 people out to vote for democracy candidates ahead of the legislative council elections scheduled for September.

The extraordinary turnout in the face of warnings by authorities was interpreted by observers as an act of opposition to the national security laws imposed by Beijing on 30 June.

As the pro-democracy protest movement continued throughout 2019 and an unprecedented number of pro-democracy candidates were voted in at district council elections, there has been growing confidence that the pro-Beijing members in the legislative council (LegCo) could be sent into minority. With the primaries, organisers sought to determine a shortlist of candidates to avoid splitting the votes.

Late on Monday Beijings top representatives in Hong Kong labelled the primaries illegal and accused organisers of colluding with foreign powers in a serious provocation of Hong Kongs electoral system and to seize the private data of voters.

The goal of organiser Benny Tai and the opposition camp is to seize the ruling power of Hong Kong and ... carry out a Hong Kong version of colour revolution, said a spokesman for the Liaison Office, whose chief is also in charge of implementing the national security laws.

The statement came in support of Hong Kongs chief executive, Carrie Lam, who said that democrats coordinating to win a majority and veto the governments budget could be against the anti-sedition laws, and would be be investigated.

If this so-called primary elections purpose is to achieve the ultimate goal of delivering what they call a 35+ [majority seats] with the objective of objecting to, resisting every policy initiative of the Hong Kong SAR government, then it may fall into the category of subverting the state power, which is now one of the four types of offences under the new national security law, Lam told media late on Monday.

I work at a pizza place, and we get at least five or six gigantic orders a day since lockdown started. In my city we're not allowed to have gatherings of more than ten people, which is honestly probably too much. I knew we were going to have a second wave as soon as the dumbass governor started allowing a lot of places to open again, because everyone in my city and honestly the whole U.S. is irresponsible as fuck.

We have your address when you order for delivery. Every single group I've seen order like twenty pizzas, I've reported. My city has an official site/app to report price gouging and big groups and more. I don't even know how many people I've reported but I've gotten quite a few follow-up emails thanking me for reporting these giant ass groups of people having parties and shit.

I will say it's really satisfying to get a bit of revenge on people placing gigantic orders when we're already doing ridiculous record weeks from the amount of people ordering takeout, but that's absolutely not the reason I'm doing it. I hate this country with a passion because it's always "me me me" with these fuckers. I'm ashamed to be an American. The entire world is looking at us from their mostly recovered countries and seeing us for the idiots that we are. The people breaking quarantine to have parties and spreading this virus around absolutely deserve any legal action that comes to them. They're putting our community in danger and making this situation worse. I will continue to report any of these large gatherings until we're finally free of this idiocy.
