A cat eats a fish. we don't feel pity for the fish, do we?
A dog in the wild can eat birds, rats, insects etc.. can we don't feel for the insects...

Can you imagine how much pain it must be to be slowly eaten alive by another creature?
Animals clearly cant tell the ethical nature of 'murder' or killing, yet we symphatise when the animals themselves get killed.

Why is that??

Yeah dude because we all know that cats are like a natural prey to most wild animals. They fucking live off of them.

Torturing people's pets is fucked up.

Humans are wired to care for animals (especially dogs) in a similar way to caring for babies. We evolved together with dogs and have certain base reactions from that co-evolution. Modern society cares quite a bit more for animals than are instincts guide us to, but when someone breaks that line we see it as a signal that something is incredibly wrong with said person.
From a modern perspective, however, most humans aim to avoid needless suffering. We kill cows as harmlessly as possible and we avoid seeing the deed because it causes us discomfort. Again, someone causing needless pain is viewed as a degenerate.

yes, but animals aren't civilised. So why should our 'civilised' behaviour be somehow enacted the same in how we treat animals?
If it is for the sake of protecting harm animals feel toward us, it's both hypocrital for both us and the animals. The animals themselves are also harming other animals. We're omnivores so we also need to eat animals. The animal food we eat just so happens to not be one where we are not reminded there's a chicken slaughtered cruelly at some farmhouse that laters becomes our KFC chicken wing. We dont think of where our food comes from. WE JUST EAT

plenty of ants die when you step on a grass. Micro-organisms on us and around us are dying and killing each other every second right now. What defines the act of killing to you...? We don't give a s*** about some worm getting crushed by a car but we cry when a cat gets crushed by a car.

If you think about it...it's all around us. We just selectively choose to make up our own moral story of what is good and evil.
What are we judging by... the level of brain development in a living thing? We cant even prove trees dont feel pain and arent internally screaming 'ow! ow! ow!'

uh dude, lots of animals get killed mercilessly, not harmlessly at all. Maybe in the west but in most countries and that's where our food supplies come from...slaughterhouses dont give a s***

really?
you need to watch more animal documentaries of those carnivores playing with their prey.

There are tactics used, like slowly wearing down the prey, or a poison or chomping down body part by body part while the prey winces in agony. The animal world is cruel

Microorganisms aren't complex enough to have emotions.

We understand things, which is why we hold ourselves to obligation.

okok I think I got off the wrong foot here. My topic is meant to criticise people like vegans who believe it's wrong to slaughter animals for food. Animal cruelty, yes, is wrong.

I'm talking to those advocates who think it's also wrong we're eating animals

This is a pretty weird idea to hold us to animal morality. Animals rape, murder, etc. even their own kin. That's really not something to aspire to.

I hope this is a troll topic. The clear answer is because we know better.

The actual pain and suffering an animal feels is no different than that of any other human. That instance of consciousness experiencing that suffering is no different than any human.

The difference is humans are smart enough to comprehend it, and that is what makes the crime indefensible.

There are animals that kill/torture other animals for fun though. It's not necessarily a good defense.

Sure, felines and other animals do play with their food sometimes. But one can argue mass breeding and caging farm animals in unsanitary conditions and mass slaughter them is animal abuse.
