Should be called Washington Rednecks, still racist, still all about red skins, but now it's about white people, Native Americans no longer mad, liberals laughing at the name that makes fun of whities and the rednecks are proud.

Why would I care about white people being offended on behalf of native Americans who repeatedly vote they don't find the name offensive when polled and the team is only changing because white people got the white advertisers to tell the white owner to change it?

The only thing offensive about the redskins is Dan synder and the onfield team for the better part of the last 20 years. Sports teams, casinos, Thanksgiving and a couple weeks of American history class is about the only times native Americans get any attention in modern America.

how about instead of arguing that only 50% of natives find it offensive or some shit we notice that none of the other nfl team names offend anyone whatsoever and thats the baseline we should strive for?

Im not saying the team name isn't offensive but that seems like a bad idea. Minnesota is gonna end up having to change their name next.

probably because he didn't say anything about the redskins changing their name or not, but in your faulty logic.

When native Americans were polled twice over a 12 year period of time and both times came back 90% don't find it offensive. White people saying THIS IS OFFENSIVE TO NATIVES, doesn't really mean anything.

the groups that care the most about the names of sports teams, are the same ones who get almost all of their donations from people for that "cause". So what's more likely, there's this large angry group of natives and it's just a conspiracy that polling never reflects it...or there's a small group who saw a way to capitalize on white guilt in the wake of the actually offensive caricatures that were many teams named after natives. Just like Dan Synder isn't changing the name because he had a sudden change of heart, he's changing it over money. Always follow the money.

You can already hear the rumblings turning towards the Chiefs once the Redskins do officially change their name. After of course the fine white people like yourself take your victory lap for your great victory!

I don't plan to. When the team was named it wasn't meant as a racial slur it now is. We as a society like to make things racist that aren't. Bringing attention to the okay sign recently is a great example of how something in just 2 years can be turned racist. I'm for eliminating racism not creating it

Yes, I do.

Redskin is a reference to bloody scalps left behind in government-sanctioned acts of genocide. The name change is long, long overdue. Washington Redskins should've never been a thing in my lifetime. You ever see photographs of fried chicken restaurants with racist names / racist mascots? The Redskins brand name should've gone out with that.

I dunno, I never got this whole controversy even back like 15 years ago when I first heard of it. Is it just that they don't like the depiction of centuries-old culture? Like anybody thinks it's supposed to be a realistic depiction of modern people?

If I try to put myself in their shoes, the best I can come up with is if they renamed the team to the Washington Rednecks and the die-hard fans wore straw hats and half-buttoned overalls, and the only conclusions I can come to are:

1. That's actually kinda funny.
2. It's actually kind of flattering for somebody to think southerners are badass enough to compete with bears, lions, panthers, etc.

But whatever, it doesn't matter if I get it. "Nuh uh" is the worst possible answer to "this is offensive."

It didn't originate with genocide. It was for a period associated with it so I do understand why it's offensive and being changed. When the team was named it was not in a pejorative sense either. I don't like the fact we even have racial slurs that exist. Instead of getting rid of a slur, we're pretty much creating one as a society right now.

It's like naming a German team "The Ashes."

each thing on its own is probably inconsequential but if, one by one, we can demonstrate that these things are not okay, it can help us as a culture can make progress on bigger picture issues caused by institutional racism
