The 'iron' names I think are really a lost in translation thing. They're direct translations of the Japanese names (ie Tetsu-no-X, where X is a three syllable word) which have a much better flow and mouth feel than the english versions, even if the meanings are the same. Japanese has had similar style names since Gen 1, they just decided to localize it more literally for the Paradox Pokemon.
