Every news agency was obsessed with Trump once he declared he would run. Talk show hosts like Colbert and Oliver trashed him relentlessly and even taunted him before his declaration, but all that negative publicity was embedding him in the publics mind.

Nobody was ignoring Trump. He was a goldmine for the media and comedians. Bill Burr is right.

Did you ever think this would happen 10 years ago?

Yes, 100 percent.

Id say even before that because there were already characters here and there who were gay or bi. Midnighter from The Authority is probably my favorite character, who happens to be gay, and they were very open about his sexuality in the early issues at least. That was like 20+ years ago.

I did think that the inclusion of many gay characters wouldnt happen until it was much more widely accepted, though. These comic book companies are mainly interested in sales IMO, so them waiting shouldnt surprise us.

Diversity from the party who really wants people who don't look and think like them to go away....

Both parties have been guilty of this, though.

There are non-conservatives, even on this board, who think you should be silent on a lot of issues if you arent POC. In other words, you have to look a certain way to have a voice. Luckily, I am a minority, so I get to keep talking. But if you dont have the same views as them, youre also in danger of losing your job, getting kicked out of school and so on. Here on CE, its common for people to insist you should be banned for having a different opinion. De-platforming is another popular suggestion for podcasts. Thats straight up advocating for censorship, so implying its only one side that wants to get rid of people who don't look and think like them is kinda silly.

Capitalism is how you can have a badass IPhone in your pocket, which has access to the internet and works as a multimedia platform, on top of making phone calls. Capitalism is also how we can have movies like the Avengers that blow our minds and employ hundreds of employees or companies like Amazon that can deliver. overnight just about whatever you need or want on a whim. Also, is that statistic released from the Feds? Im only aware of their 2018-2019 data. And where was that increase from? If were going to tie it to a specific person, namely a politician, I find a proposed connection questionable if incidents are mainly occurring in a voting area that doesnt support said politician anyway.

Sagan joked that they didnt at least use other potential skin colors in Star Wars, but it seems clear that he disapproves of human characters, whether they are white or not.

It would depend on what we consider left, as there is a bit of gatekeeping and No True Scotsman that often is applied to it. Add in the qualifier of extreme, and we further narrow the field.

For example, Bernie Sanders, Cenk Uygur, Russell Brand and Henry Rollins have appeared on the podcast. Do they qualify as left?

Teaching that America is about racism, slavery, and exploitation of the working class.

Teaching that to children so they grow up hating what this country stands for is not only socially important but also morally the only right thing to teach about the USA

Nah, thats misleading.

The US certainly used racism, slavery and exploitation to achieve its standing, but it is not about those things. It simply has ideals that it hasnt fully lived up to yet, plus every generation keeps redefining what exactly those ideals are and how to achieve them. If this werent true, we would never see it continuously evolving into a nation that a lot of people from other countries are willing to risk life and limb to become a citizen of. Theyd avoid it like the plague. Keep in mind that, yes, it is absolutely important to teach the history of the US to its citizens and, yes, not everyone wants to immigrate to the US. But its also no coincidence that the countries you do hear people wanting to live in, such as Canada, Australia, Germany, England and so on, are quite similar to the US, as in having a very troubled past they had to overcome and a democratic government that has its economy powered by regulated capitalism.
