Like, they were probably more successful than they thought they would be, but even if Clinton had won she would have been deeply politically injured compared to the scenario where the Russians hadn't meddled (which is still a win for Putin).

And yes, you should care. Putin's goal is to divide and weaken the west in order to make his fucked up mafia state relatively more powerful. As you're a westerner (and presumably believe that western values are much better for the world than Putin's values?) that's a bad thing.

What I mean is that if you ignore all of the standard GOP policy stuff, all of the extra Trump-specific stuff is just inarguably bad. For example, if youre a Trump supporter, you need to have justified to yourself why it doesnt matter that Trump bragged about sexual assault on tape. You need to justify to yourself that he lies CONSTANTLY, including about trivial things and in ways that are extremely easily disproved. You need to justify to yourself that he insulted a POW by saying that he prefers people who werent captured.

Once you can do that, its easy to keep justifying everything.

Something Ive been wondering about is whether or not theres anything that can be done to keep people convinced of the importance of things that are too successful at accomplishing their goals (like free trade in this case, but also things like the post WW2 western alliance, vaccines, etc). Vaccines are actually probably the clearest case of this; diseases like measles are totally wiped out so no one has a frame of reference for what theyre preventing which lets idiots convince themselves that some imaginary downside of vaccines outweighs the real benefit.

I hope were not just doomed to find out why these things are important every 70 years.

In SMT news, I think Ive finally been able to nail down my exact alignment point total after having generally tried to keep things balanced while playing but not explicitely tracking a number for most of the game. If Im right then Im only two points off where I should be based on this guide for getting the neutral ending, which I should be able to adjust for pretty easily.
