Yeah I loathe applying for things too, and unlike with college/grad school there's not just a clear set of steps to follow which always amps up my procrastination.

I've basically been procrastinating since I graduated; I haven't actually applied anywhere yet. Basically all of the big tech companies have implemented hiring freezes now which is really annoying, since my first choice would be to get a quantum computing job at one of those. I'm planning to start actually applying to places in January.

Roommate situation has been finalized. I had one final headache where my bad departing roommate (the same one who reneged on Jan 1-15 rent) tried to abandon a bedframe in the room and then initially refused to return the keys before getting his security deposit (which I was withholding until he got rid of the bed), but he ended up backing down. Hopefully I'll get a job before either of the new roommates move out and not have to deal with this stuff ever again!

I've always been a big FFXII defender, but Vaan is pretty awful

(Though he was great in FFRK which made me like him a bit more...!)

Okay, I think my housing situation is sorted out (pending getting the signed paperwork from one guy). I did have to pay a bit over $300 due to my current roommate reneging on his prior commitment, though I'm more pissed off about it out of principle than due to losing the actual money.

Housing update: found a guy for one of the rooms who wanted to move in mid-January. I asked the departing roommate for that room, who was still looking for a place, if he wanted to continue to rent his room for any portion of January, and he said that he did until the 15th. I confirm with him that I'm okay to tell the new guy that he only has to pay from the 16th onward.

Then an hour ago, my exiting roommate tells me that he's actually going to be moving out on the 1st, and will not pay for the 1st-15th even if the new guy refuses, potentially leaving me to either eat $550 on an empty room that isn't even mine or lose the new roommate (haven't heard back from him yet).

It was actually on Youtube until pretty recently! I was rewatching it back in maybe April or something there and it finally got taken down like 50 or so episodes into my rewatch.

Both of my roommates are moving out (yet again... roommate replacements #6 and 7 since summer 2021), and I'm getting way fewer responses than in previous searches. I'm not sure if it's because I'm no longer a grad student myself, because I'm advertising both rooms together, or the market's worse this year, but even last winter at almost exactly this time (my previous most difficult search) I was probably getting five times as many inquiries. I'm actually worried that I might not be able to find anyone and I may have to move out, possibly back in with my parents. Because I'm currently job-searching (and not exclusively locally) I can't reasonably sign a new year lease, and I don't think I'd be a particularly competitive subtenant applicant.

Yeah I've never really cared much about sports in and of themselves (I very rarely actually watch games, and I never played any even as a kid), but I have a bit of fun following the results of the teams of schools I have some affiliation with (and my dad's always been a big Michigan fan since he went there, so it's another thing to talk to him about).

Ive been feeling pretty crappy myself the past ten days or so with insomnia issues (which I now suspect I accidentally triggered by starting caffeine withdrawal). I wasnt even planning on quitting, just temporarily reducing my consumption, but now Im scared that if I go back on it itll just reset the timer on my symptoms!

Yeah FFRK was a huge timesink for me as well with most of my time spent playing catchup

Got distracted in the middle of my Fairy Tail reread/continuation and ended up rereading Rave Master. Still held up!

Definitely heavily doubting these PotD results. Iirc it wasn't until gen 4 when event Pokemon were widely distributed, and at that point there were almost 500 Pokemon (I myself got 150/151 in gen 1 and 491/493 in gen 4, and then probably like 80-90% in all of the other gens).

My favorite manga is 20th Century Boys (which I think will also unfortunately never get an anime adaptation).

Finally making some progress clearing my One Piece backlog... aww yeah second Wano OP unlocked

Yeah, there were major spoilers for like Marineford but that was forever ago. Another thing I forgot to mention is that I really liked that final fight sequence and the musical callbacks in it; the animation in the movie was generally top-notch.

Just watched it (after watching the three lead-in episodes). It was the probably the best of the One Piece movies Ive seen, besides possibly 6 (which I havent seen in like a decade and dont remember too well). I dont think there were any spoilers of consequence to me (since the one Maniac mentioned wasnt much of a surprise).

If I were to watch Red what should I watch first? (I'm currently like 100 episodes behind in the anime, but I assume based on earlier movies that it's mostly self-contained besides maybe a few lead-in episodes?)

Yeah Im really glad I got out of it because I know from my dad who served on the jury in a child porn case that they make the jurors actually view the material (and there were child porn charges for this case too). Which I guess makes sense because otherwise the prosecutor isnt proving that it actually is cp, but yeah definitely dont want to have that invading my nightmares.

Jury duty update: got out of it on hardship, but if I had been picked it would have been a several week child sex abuse trial

Ugh yeah, got called in at 8:30am tomorrow at the courthouse at the opposite end of the county...

I got called once for jury duty, but I was able to get out of it apparently by just telling them that I was a grad student. I think the rule is designed for people who are taking classes, which I didn't really do anymore, but I'm certainly not going to complain. It was also right during the 1st summer of the pandemic so the idea made me quite nervous.

Yeah the last time I got summoned was also like August 2020 or something. I was definitely worried about having to go in then. I'm just job searching now, so I don't think I have any excuses to get out of it! (Though once I'm there I'll have already dealt with most of the annoyance anyway, so I wouldn't mind being actually chosen too much as long as the trial's only a day or two)

This is the third time I've gotten a summons. The first two times I didn't need to go in, but now I guess they have 150 groups per week and you need to check before each day for that week. My group's in the 80s and there were no groups called for Monday so I thought over the weekend that the worst case scenario was that I got called in on Thursday/Friday, but then they literally called like 80 groups in for today so I think it's pretty much guaranteed I have to go in now.

And yeah I think actually being on a jury would be interesting, but getting there is potentially a huge pain depending on the courthouse and rapidly changing my sleep schedule is always really difficult for me (for the furthest out courthouses I'd probably need to be out the door around 6am, which is much closer to when I've been going to sleep recently than to when I've been waking up...)

Welp, I think I'm now committed to pulling an all-nighter as a last ditch effort to fix my sleep schedule ahead of probably jury duty tomorrow... not ideal!

If that made it to GL I definitely would have devoted pulls for that!

I'll keep reading topics if you make more, though I have no plans to play JP

My parents and I have still managed not to catch it, but my brother and several of my friends who had avoided it for the first two years finally got it this past summer.

Agree that Blacks Bowser is good. Pratt is bad in this role, but probably above my low expectations.

Yeah, same. And yeah I think it would certainly be easy to spin normal animal research into a story that sounded similar at first glance, but I can't really imagine a reasonable explanation for the specific details here.
