Crono v Bowser
Not buying the Crono hype. I don't think Crono is on some sort of island this year, but I also don't think Bowser is really up to the task of taking him down either. His one and only strong performance has been beating Kirby. I would've taken the Kirby upset but I think Bowser pulled some sorta hierarchy nonsense to rob Kirby, meaning while a Kirby may have been up to the task a Bowser will not be. Pikachu could've done it!

Alucard v Cloud
Board vote should be fun to watch with this one. I don't expect Cloud has dropped to the level people who are humoring miscellaneous underlings beating him do as FFVII has looked pretty okay this contest and Cloud could have boosted slightly from Smash, but I do kinda believe in Alucard to be somewhat legit this year. So while this percentage is low it's mostly faith in Alucard.

The distinction a lot of people, usually idiots, don't make, is there are reasons to be wrong other than being an idiot. There are plenty of matches that were thought to be debatable that didn't end up close, or matches that weren't thought to be close that did end up close, but they had reasons to go for what didn't happen. Like if you called Squall vs Zelda as a narrow win for Squall that doesn't make you an idiot that just means things have changed this year. Same is true of Mega Man vs Pikachu here.

37% on Samus absolutely is when he got like 46% on Crono the round before. Pikachu was actually strong in 2008. 2007, I'll admit maybe a bit mixed and skewed from the sprite round but yeah.

Honestly even after the characters got established those pointless flippy multimen matches were often death when the 1v1s weren't. American audiences really just don't care about those unless there's a really good reason for the team-ups to exist.

I'm not saying he was at this level then. I am saying that Pikachu wasn't weak then and he got stomped into the dirt by guys like Luigi who looked on par with him then.

I'm saying the idea that Pokemon can't be SFFed is a myth. It just gets artificial boosts to mask those situations and soft Nintendo paths. There have been instances of it occurring even after Pokemon became relevant on this site though.

Booking cruiserweights on Raw is so simple that it's hard to imagine even WWE, who sucks at everything, can't get it right.

Just give them some basic amount of storyline and it's fine. Even if it's as simple as "rar my name is ____ and I want to beat you up ____" that would be sufficient. Don't just throw 3 cruisers against 3 cruisers every show. Book 1v1s first, only leading to a 3v3 if you've established a reason to. Like the whole problem with the cruiserweight division is you don't know who any of them are if you don't watch 205. I can't tell you a single thing that distinguishes Tony Nese from Mustafa Ali aside from Nese having more muscles.

Pokemon avoids being SFFed by avoiding the guys that can do it to them and by having weird ass momentum/rallies when they can be in the case of Charizard and Mewtwo.

Compare Pikachu's runs in 2007 and 2008 before and after he meets Nintendo characters and watch him tumble to the bottom of the pecking order pretty hard despite outperforming others like Luigi in that contest. Saying Pikachu is immune is incorrect.

60% on Ryu is fine. 2005 Bowser vs Ryu isn't really what I'd call a result that you'd replicate from year to year. Using it to smear a 60% on him is misleading. Sonic only got 57% on Ryu one year before that. Samus only got 57% on him two years before that. Mega Man only got 59% on him the year after that.

Well, technically Pikachu/Zero trends were that the power hour edge of Pikachu offset Zero being relatively better with the ASV and Zero didn't really get his percentage boost to offset Europe tanking the hell out of him till an hour or two in the match. Zero 40 minutes in wasn't too far off his ending percentage.

I wouldn't feel safe if I were Mega Man but he'll probably still win.
