Walt was playing nice before jesse killed the drug dealers/walt killed. He only killed gale to save himself. Walt was behaving and even talking jesse down but they had to reverse this in a messy way. So Gus wants walt dead for killing 2 child killing drug dealers jesse was going to kill but he doesnt want Jesse dead for killing gale and also indirectly costing him Victor. Jesse seemed to be the worse of these 2 costing Gus more cause of his own moral reasons. Walt was indeed only killing them to save Jesse. Theres all these times where Jesse does plenty if not worse yet he pulls the moral card later. At least Walt understands the business hes in while Jesse went into business with a cartel and acts shocked at certain things hes done. --- When it rains, it pours. |

Jesse rebeled against Walter multiple times and was even on the money that he poisoned Brock. Part of being a victim of manipulation is that you can't see the manipulator's actions in clear, unbiased context. Walt knew Jesse better than anyone and leveraged that.
