If two bipolar people date, do their manic/depressive cycles eventually sync up?

I'm guessing you've never actually dated anyone who would fall under that diagnosis...if you did you'd understand.

yeah I understand no one wanting to date someone who goes through psychosis. although idk if that is what bipolar is. i have never been quite sure about bipolar or borderline. i know there is the manic depressive cycle but that is pretty different from psychosis i guess.

The problem with many many bipolar individuals is the lack of medication.
They either self medicate, decide the medicine "isn't working" and stop taking it, decide "I don't like who I am on the medicine" and stop, or flat out never take it.

As a bipolar individual I struggled with it a lot and now I'm getting married next year.

I can probably name four bi-polar people I know or knew pretty well, and all four of them got married. Thats not to say that stigmas about mental illnesses dont affect peoples relationships or their dating lives, but I dont think that anyone should consider themselves a lost cause simply because of them.

This. If I can trust them to keep it under control then I have no problem dating them. The problem is that you can't know if they're capable of that before you get to know them, so many don't want to take the chance.

You should discuss medication options with your doctor.
Going unmedicated with bipolar is NEVER a good option.

CE hates people with mental illnesses other than anxiety and bog standard depression.

Fact of the matter is, dating someone with a mental illness can be taxing. It isn't something everyone is able to do and I don't hold that against anyone.

That said - there is no reason to believe you can't find someone due to being bipolar. Be open and honest and you will find someone.

People generally "blacklist" ugly or short people too. It's unfortunate, but being bipolar is simply an undesirable trait in a partner for most people. If that seems unfair, considering seeking a dating partner among the people that you yourself would otherwise reject.

Mania is essentially a very active form of psychosis. Though, some people only go through a single mania episode, but have the bipolar diagnosis for life.

I'm not even open about being schizo on my dating profiles. I wouldn't hide it from someone but I wouldn't tell them right away. Also that makes sense because I am not really subject to the same level of psychosis as I was when it all started. That was like a year long ongoing odyssey of delusions and paranoia. But nothing quite that bad ever happened again, although there have been other instances of the illness and hospitalization but those are usually acute issues.

God, yeah. That happened to me when I was on trazedone for sleep issues, instantly a "nope" to any medication that does that.

It wasn't like impossible to eat or anything, but it made it take way more effort than was reasonable. Would start feeling as if I was choking if I wasn't careful.

Are you at the very least talking to a counselor or getting therapy?
Or are you just entirely unmedicated and untreated?

If you're both unmedicated and untreated then I can't blame anyone who doesn't want to date you

Well, yeah, most people aren't looking for someone to give them rounds of unexpected stress. Some people with mental illnesses seek people to "fix them" and that's not the job of anyone in the dating field.

Good question, a lot of the symptoms/names/diagnosis have some similarity.
*Bipolar is generally large ups and downs in mood without psychosis - people feeling they are on top of the world and can do anything (trying to paint the garage in a night, spontaneously gambling large amounts etc.) and then being extremely depressed (feeling worthless, no motivation, pessimistic about everything etc.) A lot of people will actually say they miss the manic times as even though they rationally know the times weren't healthy, it felt sooo good.
*Borderline (personality disorder) is extreme variations in affection/feeling towards a person - the phrase "I hate you!!!! Please don't leave me" really captures the spirit of what they go through. There are different types of BPD but they all revolve around difficulty trusting another person's motives/conviction.
