And I've been asked it plenty of times. I guess it's different for an asian person. But I would think the question, "Where did your family from?" would be way more offensive. It's implying right off the bat that they're not American. Maybe they've lived in Iowa for the past 100 years. I can kind of see both sides to this. Like I said, "Where did your family come from?" doesn't make much sense, but for example, Japanese and Chinese are both asian, so asking, "What are you?" doesn't make much sense either. I'd probably say, "Where did your ancestors come from?" or something. Secondly... LittleRoyal posted... It's a bit sad that it's one of the first things people ask me. Even strangers ask me sometimes. ...Do some people just ask that outright, first thing they see you? But yeah! It's not like it's just that. People also call me Chinese or Japanese or whatever they want without knowing me. Or ask me to read manga fir them or write their name in X language. Do they seriously ask that? Are they just automatically assuming you know Japanese, or something? I've heard them talking about me behind my back! Saying I shouldn't be in their country/should have stayed in my country. Sometimes someone will hush them and they'll say "she can't understand us anyway" or they'll make it out like I have an accent or something. ...What the hell. They must know you know English, obviously, so I assume they're intentionally being insultingly racist. But again, you mentioned a southern drawl, so if you really are in the south, that might explain a bit more of the racism. Also, I normally would have doubted people could be that stupid (like automatically assuming you know Japanese, or asking your ancestry), but after a few months working at a cash register and dealing with customers, I'm more inclined to believe the stupidity you encountered is legitimate. Saving over all of them isn't gonna make the game feel any "newer" to me. Similarly, when I played FFI & II Dawn of Souls on the GBA, and I accidentally saved in slot 3, it bugged the hell out of me because now what should have been a normally empty save file had a useless file that shouldn't be there at all. Think, what kind of ancient history does America have? It practically has none, it's still a baby compared to a country like Japan. It'll be interesting to one day have the U.S. be seen in that light, but it'll take a long time. And I don't know much regarding the people, or society, since I don't care much for that, or even being around people, but I do love its architecture and geology. I can't quite explain it, but their buildings and towns and cities, the landscapes, it all seems so... neat to me, somehow.
